when i registered the website called me a 'player'

    whos da boss

  • Bought one, just for fun.

  • +1

Got one. I'll use as a (last resort) back up for my external audio recorder when mounted on my DSLR camera.
I do not expect high quality sound, but it still should be much better than in built microphones which are also prone to picking all the noise you create when fiddling with focus and zoom while shooting video.

  • Just got one-No probs with order going through paypal. seems like a great deal

  • Ordered one, might come in handy, instead of using iPhone.

  • I don't even know what I gonna do with this..Bought though :(

  • +1

Thanks - been looking for something like this, albeit with more memory - but can't complain at $7!

No problems with the site for me, either.

  • Damn, these would've been so good if I was still in uni! Oh well, bought two anyway, just for fun lol

    OzB and JungleJumble ftw!

  • Good deal, but wondering, why would people use this over a mobile phone to record audio?

    • +4

This device can save in MP3 and WMA formats - so can be played back easily on the computer without conversion. Some phones can't save in this format easily. It has an FM radio too! Am buying one for my daughter to take to her music class. She doesn't have a phone yet!

  • +2

    hmmm…don't need this…. click

  • Off the top of my head:
Pull out of pocket and press record no fiddling, Can arrange dictation into folders and separate each recording with in the folder, makes checking and playback easier, internal or external mike, line in and phone recording.

Mobiles phones are jack-of-all trades devices, master of none(generally speaking).
I still regularly carry around a stand-alone mp3 player, small camera, portable games console, and soon a pocket DVR. All my devices are superior and more capable than any single smart-phone function.

Weird, I saw this up somewhere else for around $7 a few months ago…

  • bought 2

Thanks OP, ordered one, although I have no idea what I am going to do with it LOL, it will probably end up in my "gadgets drawer" which is full of led torches, sdcards, headphones and other stuff that I OzB'ed and never used.

  • These are still available at the cheap price. Just ordered the 1Gb model using PayPal.

  • +2

Anyone got theirs delivered ? Still waiting for mine.

  • Arrived today, thanks, have to test it out later.

    • Yeah, please do that …

    • what's the outcome? a happy customer? :)

  • +6

I got it. Recording quality is excellent if you select the Super HQ mode (MP3 128kbs 44.1kHz). There are plenty of accessories, external microphone and well built headphones. The interface is perplexing with button assignments for unrelated functions and crude alpha-character display. Power-off current consumption is problematic, it is unstable and fluctuates measuring between 20mA and 0.5mA. Do not leave batteries inside when storing this recorder as it would drain them within 3 months.

    • Great review, thanks! =)

I'm curious to use this and find out how I actually sound to people. I know this sounds silly, but apparently the way you think you sound, isn't the way you actually sound to someone. I hate listening to video recordings because I sound different on there, so I'm going to use this thing and check for myself.

  • Received mine today, impressive unit.
Must read the instructions booklet (miniscure writing) to understand all the functions.
Light weight, could easily keep in top pocket for discreet recordings.

  • I ordered 1 on the 28/12/2012 and still waiting as well.

    • It arrived today.

Arrived today! Thank-you! Puts in cupboard never to be seen again

This unit is very impressive for the price. It is better than my Olympus recorder that I have bought 7 years ago for 15x the price.

I have just order another 3.

  • There were 12000 of these in stock. I wonder how many are in stock now? 7704? Based on 4296 clicks? :P

    • Problem is not everybody who clicked here bought and not everybody who reached that product page came from OzBargain. Only the rep can answer that.

    • Let's put it this way….4 people have had a week and a half of sweat shop hell!! LOL

  • Got one. Thanks mate!

  • Got mine yesterday alas poorly packed.

  • Just recieved email about 5 minutes ago, that they just dispatched my items…

    • +1

Ok Ozb'rs…We're nearing getting on top of this one, it has been a logistical nightmare given time of year and other products we needed to get out daily. Basically, all the orders were grouped with smaller order numbers going first and larger numbers there after.

Apologies for the delay there was an unexpected hold up with Auspost knocking us back on the dimensions on single & double orders….these had to be repacked to ensure we didn't go backwards on the deal to the tune of k's…Anyways, hope you all enjoy your products….these are a Korean designed unit that Sony also used some 3-4 years ago for their Digital Voice recorder range. Grab them while you can as the special ends within 2wks

PS Please give us time to catch up on emails….we will be responding next week. It would be preferable for us if you could phone on 1300119915, as the old telephone still works for us

      • +2

No, don't call them, or email them for that matter - i want them spending whatever time they have repacking my stuff and sending it to me.

  • +7

    Got mine.

Before even mentioning the recorder itself.. I have to point out the headphones alone are worth well more than $7! they're actually decent sounding. with plenty of mid-range punch and a smooth response. Was quite surprised having owned both 'name brand' and cheap $5 jobs in the past, I'd say they're well up with the former in SQ.

As for the recorder.. Excellent recording quality from all three mic types. I noticed someone saying their phone has similar features , but this is cut above from any phones I've tried to use for recording further than a meter away. With the external mic it's even better, albeit mono only.

I tested some recording of TV from across the room with the clip mic on Hi sensitivity, and it came out almost spot on, with little background noise, and only minor 'echoing'. It also seemed to normalize my own speech well when I started talking during the recording (close to the mic).

In ear mic recorded a phone call with no issues either. picks up phone, and your own voice fairly equally.

when I first saw this deal, I thought this might just be not much more than an el cheapo mp3-player in wolf's clothing, but I'd have to say I was wrong there. this is quite the bargain if you want something more fit-for-purpose than a phone or mp3 player

    • Hear here…they're a quality unit, once sold for around $70 mark for the 512mb and 1GB version around $150……1gb was more expensive given it had a version of Dragon naturally speaking text to speech which at the time was upgrade-able and gave the buyer a cheap buy in option v's buying the software outright..The software still works of course but just not upgrade-able to v8.

This is a sleeper deal. To me it is up there in the top 20 best deal for ozbargainer with decent stock :).

      • Agreed.

  • Just ordered the 1GB model. Thank god you guys have enough stock since I only just came across this deal.

  • Why do I need to click "record phone conversations" in order to add the item to my cart?
    Strange.

Anyway, looking forward to getting this based on the above reviews.
    Hope it lasts as well.
    (Does it have a warranty?)

    • +1

because you get the free in ear microphone as part of the deal - for recording phone calls. I guess it forces you to add it @ $0.00 (maybe so they don't forget when picking/packing?)

      • spot on

    • what's you order no pls… read above comments….ps bonus doesn't mean you get 2x per unit.

      • -1

I order 4 and got 3 not sure where you got this info of 2 per unit. If someone read the emails they would have got their facts right. Order ref Order # 100007279

      • +1

        Still awaiting for a resolution.

    • +1

Don't expect red carpet treatment for $7 per piece with free delivery mate. This is probably family business and they are too busy packing my order.

      • -8

You obviously have no clue what is happening, back into your shell.

  • Got it a few days ago but finally had time to look at it today. I saw what you had to do to fit it into the envelope, Rep, LOL. Much smaller and lighter than I expected. Incredible amount of functionality. But with so many functions, reading the manual is like a Mensa test. :)

This is a fantastic deal for $7 even if I haven't figured out what to do with it. If nothing else, a MP3 player and FM radio. It's already paid its way tying up my time playing with it and preventing me from wasting^Wspending more money on OzB deals. ;)

  • I am surprise how refine the mp3 player in this unit is when hooked up to my Sennheiser px100. It is very close to my expensive Sony Walkman. The radio is just ok with some static interference. The left channel of my stereo ear bud is faulty. I will contact the supplier once my other 3 units have arrived and get a thorough check.

  • Just received my 5 Olin about 20 minutes ago, I am very happy with the packaging, Thank You so much OP junglejumble

  • Package arrived few days ago at Post Office but I only collected it today. I am really impressed with this unit. Did not expect it to be this great. I bought assuming "There goes another $7 down the drain", but it looks like the best $7 I've ever spent.

However, I am not sure if I received the bonus phone adapter. Either that or I'm not able to figure out how to use it to record phone conversations. The manual doesn't say anything either.

Here is a snap of all things I received in the package http://imm.io/SVmz. Can someone have a look and see if I am missing anything?

    Thanks in advance.

    • +2

      Everything is there.

      • +1

Thanks for confirming, fyz88. Much appreciated.

  • There are a few Olin Mp3/Mp4 player on sale as well (discontinued product). I could not find any review and just wondering anyone has experience with it.

    • +1

Well yeah, there's a few of them listed here. Unless they take AAA (for a fast swap) i don't bother.

  • +1

can you play FM radio directly out of the speaker?, if so how is the sound quality?

    • +1

Yes, you can. Quality is not great but still good for the size. You still need to keep the earphones connected since they act as the antenna.

  • +1

Received mine today! Gotta say the quality of this product for the price is great. Thinking about ordering another one now.

  • FYI, the 1GB model has gone up from $14 to $19.95 + shipping ($4.95).

  • I bought 2 units but it didn't list in my order summary. What can I do?? I paid via paypal. I have proof of purchased.
