Gotta add the plan details in the title, otherwise it's misleading

    • Thanks!

    • Yeah, it's pretty confusing… What's the monthly cost then?

  • +4

Will actually be $865.66, as you're only paying 23/24ths of the cancellation fee as it's charged pro-rata.

  • -1

Can someone explain the step by step process on getting this deal including the cancelling of the plan. And will this affect my credit score?

    • +3

Same as any other JB deal/Telstra contract. Port-in or ask for a new-number and the deal in store -> They'll do the paperwork in-store and activate the service, charge you for the first month and give you the SIM, then take you to the counter to do the deal -> You get your phone immediately (if it's in stock) -> Cancel your plan online or via chat/phone -> You'll get a final bill for $766.66.

They do a credit check at sign-up so it'll show as an enquiry but that's it (as long as you pay the cancellation fees/etc then nothing else to it). Technically Telstra may frown on giving you contracts in future as they'll obviously have your immediate cancellation on file, but that's the only real potential loss, and I doubt they really care.

Thanks for the clarification. I was originally going to do it on the S25 for the $1,100 off before I saw this. Will head in today to see how I go. Did you have any issues?

        • +1

Did it for the Ultra with the pre-order deal the other week, it's a simple enough process as long as you're not doing it 3x+ in a week. Haven't heard of anyone having issues.

      • +1

If I intend on cancelling anyway, can't I just ask for a new number and avoid the hassle/any risks/downtime of porting in?

Or are JB devices telco locked?

        • +4

The $0 upfront deal seems only to be for port in customers. Maybe this is to avoid resellers taking up the offer.

        • As L365 said its a port in deal (cant port in with companies using the telstra network like Boost etc). Might be able to use a free esim number if your current phone works with esims. I used an aldi sim ($5) to get a new number to port when they had the preorder special.
Pretty easy to do, takes a while to set up in store but cancelling on tesltra live chat was easy enough but I didnt get the $99 upfront cost back which i didnt worry about persuing but they will definitely cancel the phone number ported so dont use a number you want to keep at all.

          • +1

@Damannation: Aldi uses Telstra network and all good to port in from those e.g.$5 sim. I think it's just Boost Mobile that is an issue as Telstra own them and shares their direct Telstra network.

            • @Borg: Fair, didn't know that but should have I guess. Either way I had no issues porting using the aldi sim.

        • Good point. It would be a dealbreaker for me if phone is locked to telstra

        • +1

The $0 upfront deal appears to be port-in only, but you can spin up a cheap $10 SIM or the like on an Optus carrier, port the number in, then cancel it.

      • The bill of $766 is paid to Telstra or JB ? Thanks

        • +1

Just call Telstra (or via chat) and cancel there. They will generate and send you the cancellation invoice. You can pay it from within your JB mobile account or ask Telstra to sort for you using the credit card provided on sign up..

        • Can pay it through the JB or Telstra portal, it's a re-sold Telstra retail service at the end of the day.

          • @GS9891: Im asking to see if i can use jb voucher to pay for it. Thanks

            • +2

@Kai4039: No, it's not a JB bill really, can't use any JB vouchers/Disneybucks to pay out the termination fee.

      • Do you have to pay for the phone in store when you signed up? If yes, did they deduct the voucher from the total cost of the phone on the spot before you paid?

        • They load a card up at the counter up with the value of the phone, technically shows as a GC on the invoice but you can't choose to keep it and pay with cash instead if that's what you're asking (and why would one, might as well just buy a GC separately at that point).

      • do you know if it’s only available for “new” telstra customers? genuinely changing plan from Vodafone - wondering if I could do
        1. $2sim get benefit then cancer, then
        2. Do the same for my actual number

Understandable they might reject since previous cancellation, but in terms of being eligible for the voucher, still valid?

T&C says “new or existing” Telstra ID, unsure if it’s still be considered existing if 1st one’s cancelled

        • Strange to ask this now as this deal has expired. Regardless hard to understand what you are asking but will try explain?

In short: Porting in is required if you wanted to keep your current number. In turn if you were already on Telstra, you would need to port out first.
If with Vodafone then would already be fine to port in assuming you wanted to use this plan with your primary number.

If however your wanted to get the deal without affecting your Primary number, then grab a new SIM/Number and port that in. Once sorted, you can then safely cancel it and the plan.

It has nothing to do with your Telstra ID as one could have multiple other existing numbers contained within it which has no bearing on these deals. Hope this makes sense/helps?

          • @Borg: Awesome, that all makes sense!

I know it’s expired, but just prepping for what I need to know on the next deal, or current with $1.1k on $99/month offer.

            Thanks, really appreciate it :)

    if ultra i may bite

  • If I were to do this, would the phone be locked to the Telstra network only? I generally use Optus based options.

    • +1

Most phones are not locked to service/network providers anymore.

  • the preivous deal i still ahven't got my phone yet

  • s25 Ultra has 1700 off at JB. Will it work for cancellation?

    • Where do you see it?

    • Yes, similar to the pre-order deal that was going on for the past month, the voucher repayment fee will still only be $800 (or $766.66 in actuality as you're only paying for 23/24ths of it after the first month of paid service). Just that extra few hundred dollars upfront after taking $1700 off the price of your Ultra SKU of choice.

      • Worth to give a shot for s25 ultra?

        • If it's the phone for you may as well I guess. The cameras are better and it has the stylus but that's about it.

I sold mine before opening it after holding another and realising how stupidly large the Ultras are though, will stick with my S22 vanilla for another year and hope the S26 base model brings something worth upgrading for.

          • @GS9891: I mean as in Price wise..is 1300ish is good for s25ultra or there can be better offer?

            • @ARD: The better offer was last month with the $200 pre-order code and double storage deal. Who knows, might be another better deal around EOFY or the like but $1700 off (with $865.66 for cancellation and the first month) is the best you'd find retail now I'd dare say, especially if combined with a trade-in and the extra they're offering for that too.

Might be able to get it cheaper on FB Marketplace from all the people flogging them from these same deals though.

  • Where can I find the $800 cancellation fee? … the T&Cs link to the following term I think for a voucher ..

    Voucher Repayment Fee
6.2 If you received a JB Hi-Fi Voucher when you purchased your Mobile Service and you cancel
that Mobile Service within any applicable Voucher Term, you must pay us the outstanding
amounts for the JB Hi-Fi Voucher you received for the cancelled Mobile Service (the Voucher
    Repayment Fee).
6.3 The Voucher Repayment Fee is a pro-rata amount, equal to the total amount of the base
Voucher divided by 24 and multiplied by the months (or part months) remaining in your
Voucher Term. For example, if received a voucher with a 24-month Voucher Term, then in:
    (a) Month 1: You will need to repay 23/24 of the Voucher you received;
    (b) Month 12: You will need to repay 11/24 of the Voucher you received; and
    (c) Month 23: You will need to repay 1/24 of the Voucher you received.

See the $99 Maximum Voucher Repayment Fee here

      • ok, so it is a Telstra bonus deal (your terms link), not a JB voucher deal (using the JB voucher link) …. I get it.

Has anyone done all this and it actually works? Cancelling and the phone is effectivly only $899 maximum?

    • look for the previous deals with preorder for s25, s25plus and ultra, there is a lot of ppl giving advices what to do

  • How is this the maximum of $800 calculated? 23 months * $99 = $2277?

    • +3

      $99 first month fee + (23/24 * 800 = $766.66) = $865.66 total cost.

  • +2

Just did it last night and cancelled a few hours after.

Been trying to get the $99 refunded without luck.

Other than that, pretty smooth and great deal

    • Yeah I tried with the pre-order deal to get the $99 back, seems impossible, they all have the same copypasta script saying it's no longer policy to refund the first month/etc.

    • +1

just try asking for the refund like 72h after the initial payment, and try as many times as it takes, i got the refund after 3rd time - the pre-order deal

      • Yep tried again. Refund approved but waiting for payment to be finalised. Yay 😁

  • Can someone confirm that the voucher they calculate the cancellation on is actually $800 and not $1687… dont want to risk going through the motions just to end up paying $1616

    • It's the exact same CIS as the pre-order deal. The voucher amount you're liable for is only the $800 ($766.66 actually as the first month is pro-rata'd) which will be on the paper CIS the rep in store will give you, you can even ask them to confirm it's all you'd be liable if you "happened" to cancel. They boost the voucher value to cover the entire cost of the device, but the CIS doesn't change from the standard $800 and it's all Telstra ask for on cancellation.

    • …already noted this a few posts Up. See the Max payout fee.

When cancelling through the telstra live chat

    Rep-
    "Thank you!

After checking, we found out that you currently have a JB Hi-Fi Mobile Upfront Plan Premium which you just acquired from a JB HiFi Store. You have also been informed that your JB HiFi Upfront Mobile plan (Postpaid) is under a 24 month contract.

The current plan includes a gift card with a commitment to stay on that plan for 24 months. If you disconnect your plan early, you’ll need to repay the value of the gift card amounting to
    $766.59.

Disconnecting the service will no longer allow you to transfer the service to another provider or keep the number. Please be advise that we will not be able to refund the first payment upon cancelling the service.

Would you like to proceed with the cancellation of your JB Hi-Fi Mobile Upfront Plan?"

I also used a $5 aldi sim so i wouldn't lose my actual number doing this
    Popped my original sim back in bam $766.59 + $99 first month + $5 sim = $870.59 S25+

    • ofc you should ask them for 99$ refund which they should accept :D

    • Is there a chance you could be forced to pay out total amount ~ $1700?

      • +1

Havnt heard of anyone in ozbargin doing that. You cancel your plan thats with telstra and telstra gets you to pay back the money they fronted jb hi fi. Either 550 for the $79 plan or $800 for the $99 plan.

  • Would JB offer the 512GB model for the extra $200?

  • Any advise on buying charger for s25+

    • Any will do incl older 5w chargers that you may have laying around. One just needs a USB A to USB C cable or adaptor for those.
OR Are you looking for a 25w fast charger which is max charging rate for it?
Personally, I just charge via wireless phone charger. Am never in a rush.

      • I was looking for 45w fast charger .
Found one deal on Amazon for $30 it's type C to type C.

  • Anyone know if this deal with come back again?

    • They sometimes have a EOFY deals end of June where phone for free on plan or even incl Giftcard.
