    Materials: ABS
    which is not very good.

    • Thanks for that. Which is the better material?

      • -5

        Platinum.

      • +32

Polycarbonate. Harder, stronger, lighter, last longers

        • Anything at OP's deal or similar price?

          • @JaxSantiago: No, that is really cheap. Lowest I can see is Amazon Basics 68cm @ $149 w/ polycarb.

TBH I would just check FB marketplace often. You can get premium brands (Monos, July, Away) for 20-40% off so I expect Samsonite/American Tourister etc will be even cheaper.

cardboard box with duct tape cheaper

    55cm is $68.70 with onepass.

  • Damn, bought last night for 114. Oh well got another for 68 this morning.

    • +2

      Might be worth emailing them.
I had similar when I bought a product at 40% off but then saw the email with the 50% promo, and the time of the email was BEFORE my order, and they refunded me the difference.

3 piece Black set is $185.70 with OnePass. ($10 less with code)

+1 for effort, but ABS is not good.

  • Would the warranty cover any issues with the ABS if it cracks?

  • +1

    4.9kg for 79cm? Pass.

american tourister used to be such an awesome brand and good material but dont know feel like its just the name and these luggages aren't strong or feel plasticly

    • Their Applite range is pretty good

  • They're all ABS.
Still, I bought a couple of 55cm for the kids. At that price…

  • Its not an extra 40% off?

  • So these wouldn't be as good as those Samsonite ones that were on sale at Amazon recently?

    • Fuiyooohhhh don’t think so la

For those in the know, if ABS is not considered to be good, what is the material of choice to look out for in a hard shell?

Also - is 55cm considered carry-on for most airlines?

Which is the best size versus weight in a larger case (checked baggage), noting you can have a larger case but you’re also limited to 25kg for most airlines so having more room isn’t necessarily useful if you can’t fill it due to weight restrictions.

    • +1

55 is the carry-on size. You can check the airline website to confirm
I find the 68cm is the ideal size as the larger sizes can be hard to fit into some taxis.

      • +1

75-76cm is ok anything larger can be hard

        • Too big for international flight?

          • @hnl: As long as LxWXH is 158cm or less most flights are ok

    • 25kg! really only seen 23kg or 30kg

    • See comments above from Liger.

    • Haha. Thanks to the member, likely who has a face like an anal fissure, who negged my comment above.

I didn’t realise asking a question was an issue. Cheers to those who answered helpfully :)

I like to sample those who fly more than I have recently. Has been a while since I’ve purchased new luggage.

  • +2

    Good price but garbage cases
Bought them a while ago, both the 79 and 68 ones arrived cracked on 1 trip from Perth to Melbourne.
Will never buy abs cases again

  • The material of these cases probably not the best for check in but if carry on should be ok because not thrown around

  • Better off buying Victorinox

    • If money wasn't an issue yes

  • +1

am I old skool or i just hate those hard cover cases lol

    • You like the leather ones?

      • +1

Not sure how to answer your question while looking at your nick :P

        • what do you like?

            • @boomramada: fabric good but 82cm is too big for some airlines as they exceed 158cm L W H total and not rain / waterproof but usually only short time in the rain

but in saying that I haven't had one that have actually measured but I'm sure they can give you a hard time if they wanted to

also fabric falls over more easily when weight is shifted on one side

              • +1

@Poor Ass: True, don't need that big, that is just an example but I prefer fabric and I don't think I ever encountered an issue with not being waterproof. Plus this helped push through tight spaces, especially in trains/cars/buses etc. Unfortunately, Fabrics are a bit heavy.

  • What are people expecting from this brand. I think its pretty normal to use ABS and be a bit heavier for AT. This is just a budget brand under Samsonite. So most lines aren't going to be super lightweight. Buy actual Samsonite if you want better materials and more features

  • ABS is garbage, unless you want a one time use luggage spend a bit more….

  • Did they jack up the price? I see first black one for $230

    • You need a OnePass. Sign up for a trial if you don't have one yet.
