Was looking for an alternative to R.M. Williams Craftsman which I struggle to fit properly. Found these can be had for slightly less than half the price of RM’s which are now $699.

Free shipping and returns.

These are Australian Yearling leather but made in India - this might be a deal breaker for some.

I keep seeing premium boot makers being advertised here on Ozb … My left and right foot are a tad different in size..very hard with formal shoe fitment and pretty common .. I ordered 2 custom made good year welted oxfords from Etsy 6 years back ..sent them the outline of my feet ..they sent me the shoes .. all these years later thats all I wear for formal wear ..mind you this was six years back and the seller was from China.. looks like that seller is not around anymore but plenty of Pakistani shoe makers around on Etsy with good feedback.. If you are after premium shoes that last..might as well get customised shoes..I am just suggesting that as an alternative for people looking for good shoes that last .. not promoting or demoting a brand or product .. also handmade shoes even customised ones need wearing in ..once they are worn in they are like gloves ..moulded in

Are the dots at the end of every sentence added by your mobile?

      • No I took the trouble to add them to break out the long sentence that I posted .. you can like them or hate them that is your choice ..but It works for me and I am not going to stop … way better than punctuation … However having said that ..dots at the end of every sentence is a concern for you in a discussion on premium boots ..and you have three supporters as well… here are some more dots ..and some more ..and some more, so why is dots that I or anyone else posts of more concern than the subject at hand Shakespeare ? You must have a degree in English literature and the 3 others who liked your comment ..I like dots … what are you going to do about it ?

        • Lol, good luck

          • @Laziofogna: Dude you had reservations about dots and you start your comeback with LOL ? Seriously ? Anyways thanks mate same to you maybe just focus on the content in comments instead of grammatical imperfections from commenters.

May I suggest you take a look at Mongrel Boots - Australian made and bloody good to boot!

    • I checked these out and surprisingly cheaper than I expected. If you have these how would you rate comfort and quality?

      • +1

I have both the Mongrel riding boot and RM Williams comfort craftsman. RMW is a bit smarter looking with a cleaner design. Comfort is dead even. Quality is definitely better with RMW, mongrel sole is rubber vs stitched, leather feels better with RMW as well. However I don’t think RMW is worth 3x as much, got my first pair like 12 months ago and have been pretty disappointed with the cost vs quality ratio.

        • Good to know mate :)

I got a pair of Mandic Boots (made in Sydney) off an OzB recommendation and am really impressed with the price/quality

  • I'm still wearing Windsor Smith and can't be happier with their quality. This is to work mind you as a barber.

  • +1

I bought a pair of these. Look really good and tough as nails (tougher than yearling leather, eg. RMs) but they are pretty uncomfortable. They definitely need an insert and mine pinch the top of foot sometimes - although I have a skinnier foot and these were the closest boot I could find that allowed enough space in the toe whilst not feeling like my heel was going to slip out.

As with anything you wear, I strongly advise to try them on first - especially as a Chelsea boot doesn't have laces to adjust to minor poor fitments.

  • I have Rivers Goodyear welt boots for at least 5 years and still good. Rivers closed down.

    • Have a set of these and they've done suprisingly well for the price I paid just for casual knockabout. Also have a set of Redbacks which are still made in Aus.

  • Anyone know how the size compares to RMs - would I get the same size?

    • From what I read, you could go down a half size in the Rossi. It’s actually frustrating that you can’t try them on anywhere before buying.

I note that Rossi is now owned by Gina Rinehart, for me her abhorrent views would stop me purchasing.

I'm with @dwbanks , love my aussie made mongrels

Made in India is a deal break for me. I cannot justify paying "Made in Australia" prices for something that was probably made for $5 in labour.

  • I'm starting to rethink expensive boots. I used to wear a pair of RM Williams for work, but when I needed a different color and couldn’t find RMs on sale, I picked up a pair of Hush Puppies instead. Surprisingly, they've been incredibly comfortable and have held up well through two years of daily wear. Now, I’m not sure if I can justify spending nearly ten times more on RMs or other high-end brands when more affordable options seem to do the job just as well. I might just stick to finding quality shoes on sale from now on.
