Edit: Got some of those fruity bites as well. I miss when they used to have strands of wheat on the outside

        Mini Wheats?

        • Thats it! I'd be. I forgot the name and ive been getting the knock off product :O

  • +1

Cheers brah just got a box

  • Is the protein content before milk is added?

    • +8

Yes. But with 24% sugar it's a calorically costly trade off.

      • +10

Most cereals are going to be about ~1600kJ/100g. You're getting significantly more protein per calories with Nutri-Grain than pretty much any other cereal per calorie

        • +1

Perhaps. I guess my point is there are far better sources of protein than fortified cereals.

          • +5

@stuckster: Maybe, but if you are already eating cereal, may as one eat the one with the protein

      • +6

It's really for kids and teens who are going to run it off. It's not for overweight middle aged office workers.

        • Bacon and eggs is ok for them though lol

          • -1

@G-rig: considerably better than Nutri-Grain, but no not great.

            • -3

@gromit: What is lol. Bacon and eggs is the worst thing I could eat, haha

              • @G-rig: Not even close. The sugar in Nutri-Grain is many times worse.

                • -1

                  @gromit:

Not even close. The sugar in Nutri-Grain is many times worse.

I wasn't going to state the bleeding obvious again but according to your comment and negs may as well.

Bacon (and eggs) is much higher in fat, saturated fat, sodium, cholesterol (and cancer causing carcinogens),
Nutrigrain is higher in calcium and iron, nothing wrong with fortified foods but there is always something healthier we could be eating (fruit etc).

It seems like everyone has been brainwashed into thinking a keto diet is good (rebranded Atkins).
I can see why as you get told you can eat crap. The sugar/carbs phobia is real!

See link for nutritional information 100g nutrigrain protein vs 100g bacon

Should have read this comment before buying 2 of these :|

          • @Avalanche: You'll be right, just don't eat the whole box at once (and low fat milk). No need to be paranoid and scared like the carb phobia crowd.

        • -1

@buffalo bill overweight middle aged office workers are fat because they aren't doing any exercise, and are sedentary saps. Age has nothing to do with it - eat more and do more (or do anything). But yes we are designed to move not sit still for 8h.

        Rodent/roach blend I suppose?

        • -1

binding NDA. I am not at liberty to share anything more

          • @Captain Cheapskate: Have you seen how other cereals are created and stored?

            • +1

@chiprillis: Many. not just cereals, but biscuits, cake mixes, confectionery etc. not brand specific either. Many of the popular big store names also come from the same facility, just with slightly diff recipes, flavourings or proportions.

              • @Captain Cheapskate: I wouldn't worry about it, kind of heresay without a link or something.

You'd still be better off eating swine food than swine.

                @SBOB

                AI Overview
"Fortified protein in cereals" refers to breakfast cereals that have added protein beyond their natural content, often through the addition of protein isolates like soy protein, to increase the nutritional value of the cereal with a higher protein content per serving

                • @G-rig: I, like everyone else always knew processed foods were generally not good for overall health, but it wasnt until I had real world experience when I true understood what that meant.
Kinda like the difference between reading about WW2 and having feelings of sadness for those that lived through it, to actually experiencing WW2 and coming out with PTSD so bad you take your own life.

even though its the same situation, its the experience that gives you a proper perspective.

                  • @Captain Cheapskate: oh right. what happened anyway? The australian food safety standards would ensure food is safe for consumption. Funnily enough there should be more warnings on a lot of food for people that don't know about overeating, hidden sugar and artery blocking cancer causing (animal) fats.

I'm sure if people went to an abattoir they wouldn't eat meat anymore either (at least for that day or two haha).

                    • @G-rig: Haha. Quite right my friend.

My eldest son chooses to be vegetarian because he watched a doc on animal cruelty at abattoirs

          • @Captain Cheapskate: You are anonymous. How would they know who spilled the beans?

            • @Laziofogna: VERY easily. Not actually anonymous on this website.
They could easily get a court order for OZB to hand over all user data, incl associated email and IP address. from there, identify my ISP and physical address, and so on.

I honestly really want to help people and share what I know, but an NDA is basically a gag order effectively forfeiting ones right to free speech. Secondly, I'm just a regular joe living by the pay check, I am most certainly in no position financially to handle any kind of legal fallout should it occur, and if someone were to hurt the profits of a multi-million dollar company, you bet your ass they will seek retribution.

All I can say is I have had experience in this industry, and I choose not to feed my children such things, even though I could get it for free any day of the week. so if you can read between the lines…

        • +7

Where do you think the protein part comes from :)

      • +2

It's a good thing that none of the other food processing machines have any chance of being in a similar state!

      • Thanks for sharing your experience. For context, what have you been feeding your kids as an alternative?

        • +3

its hard with my kids, one is vegetarian, other is vegan, lactose intolerant, and so on. we are still working on. atm it varies.
Natural yogurt or milk or almond milk w/ a home made muesli mix and frozen berries.
Eggs and avocado on toast - sometimes with those smoke salmon slices if budget allows
          fruits.
          smoothies.
my partner makes these weird salads that seem fancy and complicated, but takes her only a min or 2 to put together.
other times they wont to eat breakfast at all, which makes me think they are buying stuff on their way to school.

      • So when it says, May Contain Nuts… it means roach nuts?

  • +1

Is it max of 2 for everyone? I used to be order 6 at a time.

    • Yep. Same here. And it shows an error if you try another order right afterwards.

    • +1

Yeh, PITA as Amazon has been setting a limit for a lot of pantry stuff to 2 (for 30 days according to live chat, although it was less than that and I could order oat milk again when I ran in to that problem, of course back at normal price)

With the oat milk I did manage to get another 2 sent a couple of days after though by poking around in the S&S delivery dates.
