FREE Safety Check & FREE Replacement of Pre-1980 Gas Appliances - WA Only (WA Govt. Initiative)

170

Hey guys,

Was browsing another bargain site, and although this has nothing to do with me, I thought I'd post it over here incase it helps somebody out.

Anyone renting an older house, or who has had a place handed down to them from family or similar scenario where nothing has changed for a few decades, might want to take advantage of this.

Changes to Western Australia's natural gas supply mean that some domestic natural gas appliances manufactured and installed before 1980 could pose a safety risk and may be replaced free of charge. The changes to the natural gas supply are currently scheduled for early 2013.

If you have a domestic natural gas appliance that was manufactured and installed before 1980, it is important that you complete the Appliance Rectification Program Form to find out if your appliances need to be checked by a licensed gas fitter.

If it is found that your appliance needs replacing, the good news is that you won't have to pay for the replacement natural gas appliance or to have it installed. We will replace your old natural gas appliance with a similar, brand new natural gas appliance and have it installed at no cost to you.

  • I thought registration closed on the 31st Dec?, as i had to call last week because stage 1 registration online form does not submit, i had to email a photo of my gas top and this was the reply:

Thank you for your interest in the Gas Appliance Rectification Programme (GARP).

After reviewing the information you have provided and that which we have recorded on the appliance(s) in question I can inform you they have been deemed to be safe and can continue in operation.

This means that when the expected change to the gas is introduced in 2013 it will pose no threat nor be the cause of any problems to the appliance(s). The Department of Energy Safety have researched all the available data on these appliance(s) and have undertaken testing on several makes and models to ensure their continued operation will not be affected.

An appliance being Pre 1980 is a pre requisite for the free safety check/ initial inspection. Please be aware that if an appliance is Pre 1980's replacement is not guaranteed GARP is only in place to rectify the appliances that are not compatible with the gas change.

Any queries regarding this please respond to this email or alternatively contact me on 1800 202 119

    Thank you

    Kind Regards

    • You are probably right, but I don't see any dates anywhere on the site… Hmm…

      • i saw it in the community paper i think

  • This programme has been going a few years now. I got an appliance replaced back in 2011.

  • I wonder how the gas supply (changes) in WA compare with other states? I haven't heard of any similar changes in VIC.
