Or Woolworths Mobile for $26.10 prepaid (using Everyday card) with 5gb of data.

    • +1

Yes, it's pretty hard to beat the WOW deal, at least in relation to the data allowance.

      • I have never used all the call credit either.
        WOW pre-paid works out to $17.40 for 30 days ($0.58 a day)
        Great deal.

Tether with android all the time, don't know about iphone.

Kogan is a great deal as well, especially with unlimited calls/6GB.But if you want to get the best value you have to pay $299 for 1 year up front.

        Can be beaten:
        http://www.kogan.com/au/mobile/

        $24.92 p.m. for 12 months
        $26.33 p.m. for 3 months

        Includes:
        - Unlimited calls
        - 6GB data
        - Telstra 3G coverage

edit: hesokay beat me to it below :)

    • Do they allow tethering on iPhone? with Virgin Mobile isn't possible on prepaid.

      • +1

This always confused me because I don't understand how they can stop you. Is this an iPhone specialty thing added to make the telcos happy and push apple phones?

        • It's an iPhone thing buried in the firmware. The telco has to set a flag to enable tethering (of any kind, afaik). No restrictions on tethering with Android.

      • Virgin don't allow phone tethering at all as of the last time I contacted them on my plan and requested it.

I think kogan have the best offer
      $79 for 90 Days Unlimited Calls/SMS & 6GB/Month, $26.33 pm on Telstra's 3G network

    • Can the credit be used for international calls? And what is the rate? It seems that I cannot find the information from their website.

      • Can the credit be used for international calls?
        http://woolworthsmobile.com.au/terms-conditions

The $29 Woolworths Prepaid Cap includes $29 Credit and $221 MyBonus and the $49 Woolworths Prepaid Cap includes $49 Credit and $451 MyBonus which can be used for standard national and international calls and text, internet browsing and international roaming.

Also another good thing about Woolworths is that you still get $29 credit that can be used for anything like premium SMS (which works for games like League of Legends)

A maximum of $29 (for a $29 recharge) or $49 (for a $49 recharge) can be used for premium SMS and content, Optus Zoo content usage charges, video calling, 966 and satellite calls (excluding Pivotel).

  • +2

Virgin Mobile also allows international calls within their included credit too. Very expensive rates however good for if you have wasted credit left over.

not on postpaid… just spent 3 weeks in egypt and i came home to an additional $300 bill, yet i came out with approx $400 unused credit for the month.

      • +1

International calls and roaming are not the same thing.

      • +2

on postpaid you can make international calls. You are talking about roaming.

      • +2

I think abc means the international calls you make from within Australia is included in the credit. If you travelling overseas and making calls from there using your virgin mobile, it's consider roaming and not included in this BYO plan.

      • oops, my bad haha… still recovering from monday night and not thinking straigh 0_0

  • The other things is if you want pre-paid 4G, currently only Virgin/Optus and Telstra has it, with Virgin been cheapest at the moment.
All the other Optus resellers doesn't have 4G prepaid yet.

  • +1

    Can't beat TPG

    $17 - $550 call + 1.5 GB Data ( Unlimited Facebook/Twitter and few other sites)

For TPG Broadband customer same package for $14.99

    • +2

      No LTE offering from TPG.

      • None from Optus either unless your near a major city/

    • +4

      Vaya $11 - $500 call (per 30sec) + 1.5Gb (per kb)

      http://www.vaya.net.au/downloads/NEW-Flexi%20Plan.pdf

      • Another vote for Vaya. Very good deal. So cheap, you can't beat it. Yes, no LTE, but Optus 3G has been working fine (better than when I was on Voda)!

  • Very tempting as it includes LTE.. but the TPG inclusions are better. Guess I will do without LTE for now.

    • I'm just wondering why I got negg'd? If anyone knows of anything equivalent to TPG cost wise (with international included and higher cap limits) but on LTE I am all ready to switch.

      • have you tried viber for international?

LTE isn't worth the switch imho, its overrated

        • Viber was buggy for me, haven't tried it again for ages - will give it a spin.

  • so many plans people recommend sound good!
so what is the best plan for me? is there a website for comparison?
Im after long expiry date because I only do around average 500mb/month and $50 worth of calls/month are enough.

    • i think LTE(4G) is overrated, i can get 35Mbps in melb docklands area, but it really drains the battery
if you want LTE, i would go with virgin who use the Optus network

otherwise, kogan is the best price imho

also check out the kogan $9.99 for 2GB data plan
if you use skype/viber or if your contacts are on iMessage you may survive with just data

      • I worry about battery drain on LTE, but keen to try. Not keen enough to lock in on a contract though.

    • I use whistleout (you see them advertising on here from time to time). It doesn't seem exhaustive as some of the cheaper carriers are missing - but is helpful to see options. Otherwise, lifehacker publishes lists from time to time at various price points.

  • probably the best price for 4G/LTE. Although i heard somewhere that LiveConnected and other Optus networkers will be getting 4G soon.

    • Yes, LiveConnected's getting LTE but they have raised their prices - pretty much closer to the big telcos now, so no point going with them anymore. A lot of people were really upset at that cos they used to be really cheap…

  • virgin mobile unused call credit can be rolled over.

  • +2

Beware the sky-high excess charges. On woolies prepaid, if you run out of minutes you just recharge earlier. On this one, you get a nice surprise with the next bill, or carefully monitor and stop using it.

    • That is how prepaid and postpaid works. So, not sure what's your point

      • +2

Its worth reminding people, as too many get caught.
"$250 @ $1/minute included" is much better on prepaid than on postpaid, (due to the excess risk) whereas the naive buyer would think them similar.

  • Joined Virgin BYO 29 last July, paying $19 per month for $450 and 2.25GB,better value than the plan now, the good thing for virgin is you can rollover your unused credit and make international calls and sms, so I no longer need Skype.

    As is becoming increasingly clear, the trouble with this type of deal is Woolworth Mobile (A200.00 per annum) brought all this to obsolete ;

    $19 Plan: 1.25GB Data
    $29 Plan: 2GB Data
    $39 Plan: 3GB Data
    $49 Plan: 4GB Data

    whilst Koganmobile (A300 per annum ) puts all this rubbish/outdated away ;

    $29 Plan: $450 Credit
    $39 Plan: $450 Credit
    $49 Plan: $700 Credit

There really are no redeeming features and the whole format is in need of a change.

    • Don't forget Vaya…

    • Not entirely. I'm with Woolworths Mobile and you don't get LTE which is a big problem when I finally get around to upgrading, This deal is pretty good if you want LTE.
