Personal Finance Tracker Spread Sheet $6 (Was $8) @ CompiledSanity Personal Finance

1200

Recent Tarrifs rises may be impacting your Temu purchases, but this spreadsheet can help you budget for that next Aldi Special Buy.

Whatever the case, this formula driven and automated net worth and savings tool has been really popular on OzBargain and reddit, and hopefully you'll enjoy it too! The sheet is made to help track monthly finances and provides a bird's eye view of your financial position each month. For example, I was able to see that if I had invested in NVIDIA in 2019 I wouldn't really need to track my investments anymore.

Changes since the last deal – added historical price lookups, historical exchange rates, improved lookback functionality, added additional Yahoo Finance and MorningStar support and many others.

      • Thank you for the response, much appreciated :)

  • 3 eur is cheaper with a no fee card

Edit: nvm they bill in AUD no matter what, the estimate is just wrong.

    • Try a VPN. Sucks that AUD is most expensive.

      • Tried a VPN, it bills in AUD still

The other prices are just an estimate of the AUD amount I think

        • Yes correct, just an estimate that updates once a day. I’ll try and see why the EUR value is off (I use a free API for that to update the website). The AUD value is always going to be accurate though as that’s the source price.

Have been using it for a little over a year now, very happy. Although it hurts to update it these last couple of months 🤣

    • You’re telling me!

  • Do you support S/ PEN ?

    • Sorry could you fill me in on what this is?

  • Does this do expense tracking? I'm interested in recording expenses I don't have control of, such as electricity or fuel, as well as the expenses that I do have control of, such as entertainment. I am stuck on this idea that setting a budget as a percent of income is the wrong approach - if you have a house with no insulation, heating and cooling is going to be expensive - if you have a pool, running the pump costs money. I'd like to have a cashlow lens to expenses more that I need something to track my net worth.

    • Have you tried Frollo? It uses Open Banking for this and tries to categorise things.

There's categories like 'general merchandise', 'electricity', 'takeaway', etc. Then it puts those into categories such as 'lifestyle' if it's discretionary. Sounds similar to what you're after.

It's still being optimised but detects most transactions well

It's the same open banking API online lenders use when assessing your spending habits.

I have been a paid user since 2020 ! great tool and would recommend to anyone who wants to record their spending and track their finances.

for @CSPersonalFinance - I know you were planning to make this into a web app or mobile app… is that still in the works? sounded very cool when I heard of it in the past!

  • does it use APIs to get data, and automatically keeps historical balance sheet?

does it calculator CGT, and allow you to pick which parcel of share you sell for tracking rather than basic FIFO / LIFO ?

    • APIs are used for live price fetching, so yes that is automated for you. Recording historic balances is a manual task though, as it depends when in the month you want to record your position (last day, day before payday, first of the month etc).

The sheet includes a FIFO CGT calculator, but this is comes with a healthy disclaimer that it’s for estimate use only and not for final numbers. Hope that helps!

  • Can we use this to track capital gain/losses over the years for tax purposes?

    • Yes you can, and the sheet will help on a FIFO basis. But there is a heavy disclaimer that this is just an estimate and not for use when calculating final numbers.

  • Just came here to give this product my upvote. I have been using this for over 4 years. This is such a wonderful spreadsheet to track Net Worth and understand my assets across multiple classes. I think it is worth sooo much more than $6!!! Thank you CSPersonalFinance for creating such an awesome product and continually updating it with awesome features.

    • Thanks for the kind words! Enjoy :-)

  • Do you see our data we input into the tracker, or does all of it remain private? Thanks for sharing!

    • Completely private. Everything is bundled with the sheet, so no data leaves the sheet and everything is direct to pricing providers.

I have a FAQ on data privacy here if you want to read more.

  • @CSPersonalFinance, I got charged twice on the payment (on different cards). Could you please PM me and help me to sort it out? Thanks

    • Apologies for this, definitely can sort it out for you. Will send you a PM now.

  • @CSPersonalFinance Interested in this but before I pull the trigger, wanted to check what data sources you use and whether it:

    • supports 3+ decimal digits for penny stocks
    • returns the correct AUD value for PMGOLD
    • show upcoming (announced but unpaid) dividends
    • For sure. Answers below:

      1. Yes, but you will need to use either Yahoo Finance, FT tickers or you can follow the FAQ here.

      2. Yes it does. Use ticker GOLD.AX

      3. No it doesn’t, as the sheet isn’t integrated with ASX announcements. However there is a dividend tracking tab that you can manually enter dividends into.

  • Hi all, signing off on Ozbargain for now. Hope you’ve all enjoyed the deal and getting benefit from the sheet.

If you have any questions or need any support, please don’t hesitate to reach out via the Subreddit.

    Till the next deal!
