NAB Rewards Platinum Card with Velocity - 60,000 Velocity Points ($1000 Spend in 60 Days, + 20,000 after 12mo), $95 1st Year Fee

1210

Pretty decent points/annual fee in current times - surprised it hasn't been posted already.

I personally was approved immediately online which is a real breath of fresh air compared to other recent applications.
Also didn't seem to matter that my last application was with Citi and I still hold $10k card with Citi, even though I think NAB/Citi are the same company now.

Exclusion: no NAB Rewards within 18 months. It seems NAB treats their "Rewards" and Qantas rewards cards separately from this perspective.
Pointhacks says: "NAB has confirmed that any existing customers on a NAB direct-earn Qantas card, such as the NAB Qantas Rewards Signature and NAB Qantas Rewards Platinum, are eligible for this offer, subject to meeting the offer requirements." "The bonus points offer is not available to existing customers who have received or are entitled to receive NAB Rewards Bonus Points for a new personal NAB Rewards credit card or NAB Home Loan in the 18 months prior to the opening of a NAB Rewards Signature Card or NAB Rewards Platinum Card."

    HUGE for churners

P.s for those who don’t know

    • +1

Thanks seems you can get some business seats for cheaper than economy if you are flexible in dates

      • +2

There’s a button to exclude reward plus seats (or the velocity equivalent)

Edit: untick “show non reward fares”. The higher prices are retail fares paid with points which is a huge waste. You get under 1c a point opposed to 5-10c value a point

        • +2

Just curious abt the website, is it developed by you?

    • Does the mean it is 18 months from the time you opened your last NAB rewards account as opposed to when you closed it?

  • Slightly more here (65,000 for $99 existing customers)
    https://www.stgeorge.com.au/personal/credit-cards/rewards/am…
    Edit: oof spend kills it!

    • +2

Offer not available if you’ve held a St.George, Bank of Melbourne or BankSA rewards card in the last 24 months. New cards only. T&Cs Apply. FYI.

Looking to get more Asia miles points, any recommendations?

    • ANZ Rewards Black is the best in terms of bonus points and ongoing earning rate if you want to keep it

  • I found this deal through ozbargain the other day. Maybe someone just linked it in another deal

  • Sorry, I am confused.
If I had NAB Qantas credit card in last 18 months, am I eligible or not?

    • I think you are eligible

    • You are eligible for the bonus.

  • Does any other bank treat velocity and Qantas separately?

    • ANZ does pretty sure, I ran their Qantas and rewards cards recently for Qantas and velocity points at the same time.

      • +5

        Not anymore

Repeat of this & previous discussion: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/875063

  • Rejected. Surprising as it’s a low limit card. Churning flag maybe?

  • Haven't churned a cc in a while.
Requested payslips was the response I got.

  • Looking for a new credit card - is this the best deal going around today? Any other suggestions welcomed

Edit - I already have the NAB Visa Debit (ex Citibank customer)

  • To be eligible for the up to 80,000 Velocity bonus Points offer (automatically redeemed from 160,000 NAB Rewards Bonus Points), you must:
    1. be a Velocity Frequent Flyer member,
    2. apply for a new personal NAB Rewards Platinum Credit Card before the offer is withdrawn,
    3. have your application approved,
    4. provide your Velocity membership number to NAB to enrol in Auto Redemption,
    5. spend $1,000 on everyday purchases using your new card within 60 days of opening account, and
    6. keep your account open and in good standing for over 12 months.
This offer is not available to existing NAB Rewards Signature or NAB Rewards Platinum Credit Card customers or customers who have had a:
    1. NAB Rewards Signature, or
    2. NAB Rewards Platinum Credit Card,

within 18 months prior to applying for a new NAB Rewards Platinum Credit Card. Offer is not available when closing or transferring from another NAB credit card account or in conjunction with any other NAB credit card offer.

Taking a look at Qantas T&C:
This bonus Qantas Points offer is not available to existing customers who have received or are entitled to receive NAB Qantas Rewards bonus points for a new personal NAB Qantas Rewards credit card in the eighteen months prior to the opening of a NAB Qantas Rewards Signature Card or NAB Qantas Rewards Premium Card. This advertised offer of bonus points is not applicable or valid in conjunction with any other advertised or promotional offer.

Not a fan of that last sentence "Offer is not available when closing or transferring from another NAB credit card account or in conjunction with any other NAB credit card offer."

  • +1

Well I've been on this for 2 months and fulfilled the spend balance a few weeks ago.

So will update if I actually get the bonus points….

    • Can confirm, i've done both NAB rewards and Qantas concurrently and have received both points for Qantas and Velocity.

      • Nice to know!

    • When I last got this card about 18-20months ago they used to credit the bonus point on hitting the 1000 spend and used to transfer points to velocity every week. Because of that I was able to open and close the a/c within 10-12 days and skipped paying the AF.
But now it seems they don't credit the bonus points on hitting the min spend and auto xfer to velocity is monthly instead of weekly.

    • Got it yet?

  • Anyone know if Citibank treats Velocity and Qantas separately for bonus points eligibility? I've had both Citi Qantas cards and have scoured the terms and conditions but can't see that applying for a Velocity card deems me ineligible because of having a Qantas card with Citibank previously?

  • -1

What is the conversion rate for NAB reward points to Velocity points? I got this card last November and received 80k reward points.

    • +1

2 NAB Rewards Points = 1 Velocity Point

  • Submitted payslips got approved

  • Submitted application and says conditionally approved. Need to go to the branch to proof identity. This is as annoying as applying for Westpac. Applying for CITI was so quick and easy

    • RIP. I also have to do this, despite having had a Qantas platinum credit card with them 12 months ago. Worst part is that i'm overseas and won't be back until July. I hope i'm not screwed.

      • Update: they said I have to go to a branch and that there’s no other way to verify. It’s taken me 11 days just to get a hold of someone from customer service. Called my case manager every single day and always got a sent to voicemail. Then randomly got assigned a new case manager, who also never picked up my calls or got back to me (seems to me they’re using an Indian call centre). Couldn’t get a hold of someone through the help line and didn’t want to stay on hold for hours while calling from overseas. I was eventually forced to send a message through online banking chat, which got me a response every 24 hours from what sounded like a bot, even after claiming to be a real customer service agent.

Just told them to cancel my application. Never doing NAB again. Ridiculous.

  • Can anyone clarify the point about "keep your account open and in good standing for over 12 months"? Am I correct in assuming this specifically refers to the bonus 20k points?

i.e. I could open the account, meet the criteria, receive the first 60k points, and close the card within the first 12 months without issues?

    • +1

Yes. Only keep it open over 12mo for the extra 20k points, but you would have to pay the full annual fee

      • If you cancel it in 13th month, will you get a rebate ?

        • Unlikely. The generally stopped doing refunds 1+ years ago.

  • Anyone know when do they contact you asking for your velocity frequently flyer membership number?

Or if there’s a way to record it online? They didn’t ask for it during the application I don’t think.
My card was just approved, but nothing about any velocity points in the email.

  • I got the following text today 24hrs after conditional approval…. “ NAB has received your application and will call from 0387773971 if we need more information. Please allow up to four days for an update. Thanks”

Reckon I’ve been given the ‘lemonade and sarse’ on this one? Anyone else get this message?

    • +1

      Got the same

      • Have you had any updates? Nil for me so far.

        • +1

I got this message, and got a call to send my ATO Income Statement + visit NAB branch for identity check.

        • Same
Update today asking for bank statement and ATO info.
Way over the top for a $6k cc :)

          • @SBOB: They already poke into your credit report.

            • +2

@frewer: UPDATE. I just got approved. (2days after supplying payslips/bank statement)

              • @Pleco12: still no approval here :/

                • @SBOB: @SBOB did you get approved in the end?

                  • @Pleco12: Yeah, finally came through

  • I got nab s low rate card.

Got no reward yet after meeting the spend of $1000 for $300 cashback.

Nab has such a sh*tty reward giving timeline

Customer service is not any helpful either. I'd avoid nab time for sure, they already charged $30 annual fee too.

    • I have signed up to the low rate card before. I received the $300 90 days after I met the minimum spend.

      • 90 days after I met the minimum spend.

is that 120 days after you opened the account ?
aka you took like 30 days to meet the min spend ?

I met creteria in less than a week tbh cause already had $1500 ish Zip payment due. Thus good time to apply for new CC. From comments in old deals etc etc. it seems like fr nab makes people wait full 120 days period from signup date.

  • How is this card compare to The American Express Velocity Escape Plus Card?

    • Receive 50,000 bonus Velocity Points when apply online by 10 June 2025, are approved, and spend $1,000 on eligible purchases on your new American Express Velocity Escape Plus Card within the first 3 months
    • $95 annual fee
    • $50 Virgin Australia Statement Credit
    • +1

That sounds like a pretty good deal in terms of bonus points/dollar, however keep in mind:
      * There are much more lucrative Amex deals around, and taking this deal will then exclude you from them for 18 mo or so
      * AMEX is automatically recognising and declining churners, so you might be wasting a credit check
      * Many places charge an AMEX surcharge (though for a $1000 spend less of an issue)

  • Anyone know how you link your velocity card?

All I see is an option to convert NAB points to velocity points.

    • +1

"You’ll receive an email from NAB after your application has been approved with information on how to provide your Velocity membership number to NAB. You must provide your Velocity Frequent Flyer membership number in order to have your NAB Rewards points automatically redeemed for Velocity Points."

      • +1

I’ll have to call them. The email had no information about that. And the chat support couldn’t help.

  • +4

Just checked again with NAB cs. It is confirmed that if you have/had Qantas rewards cc (mine closed last October), you are still eligible for this offer.

  • +3

Approved on the spot and card added to Apple Wallet in minutes. Smoothest application process I've ever used as a churner.

  • What will happen if I don't provide the VFF number? Will the credit the 120 NAB Reward points instead?

I am planning to redeem the NAB Reward points for cashback. Someone mentioned in one of the posts that 12500 points = $50 cashback. In that case you can get about $450 cashback.

    • Also want to know!

    1. Can I convert 60,000 VFF points to 120,000 NAB rewards points for cashback or gift card?

    2. I had a NAB reward CC but can't remember when I closed it. Is there anyway I can check when I closed the credit card?

    • Everyone should check their credit report at least once a year … to avoid abuse …

In Australia, credit reporting is managed by three main credit reporting agencies: Equifax, Experian, and million. To obtain your credit report, you can contact the agencies directly:
Equifax: Online via their website form, by phone at 13 8332, or by mail to PO Box 964, NORTH SYDNEY NSW 2059.
Experian: Online via their website form or by phone at 1300 783 684.
Illion: Online via their website form or by mail, completing the application form and including all necessary documents.

      • +1

Thanks but I managed to ring NAB CS and got told I received the points in July 2023, which has past the 18 months now.

  • How long does the points arrive? I haven't received any email asking to provide VFF number so am I getting 120k rewards points?

  • 120K NAB rewards point credited yesterday. 2nd Statement due this week.
Card opened back in May. Anyway to manually transfer these points out instead of waiting for auto redemption?

    • How long after meeting the spend criteria did you get the points?

      • +1

        approx a month.

  • Echoing the above sentiments, I never received an email for auto redemption. Just received the first statement and no bonus credited. Followed the links above to set up the redemption myself but my name and email are spelt incorrect on the NAB rewards website with no way to update them? Pretty hopeless thus far.

  • So how do we link our velocity if we didn't get an email?

    • you can go there https://www.nab.com.au/personal/credit-cards/nab-rewards-car…
they explain it. I never received the email and I set up auto redemption straight away as I was worried I would miss out on the bonus.
When you login to your internet banking you can click on your points and goes to the nab rewards website via sso, then from there you should be able to set it up

      • Seems they come as NAB points first. So you might be able to just use them for about $500 worth of gift cards before they transfer over to velocity.. I'm still waiting for my points.

  • I currently hold a Virgin Money Flyer card. I’ve never had a NAB Rewards credit card before. Am I eligible for the bonus points on the NAB Rewards card if I apply now? As I have been informed that a Virgin Money credit card is issued by NAB.

    • They are treated as different cards from different providers, you'll get bonus points from NAB.

  • Thanks, was a pretty easy process from application to approval.

And great that you can immediately add card to digital wallet once approved.
