Decent drive for mass storage and gaming if you're looking for a HDD on a budget. $35/tb is a good deal imo.

<$25/TB CMR is the gold standard of a good spinning rust deal. Not $35/TB.

  • Not a deal or bargain really, consider https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/881942 @24.95tb and some others deals that have come and gone with AU stock

Linking something that isn't $150 more than this post may be a better comparison

I didn't post the deal so not my job. It's the fact that this isn't even a deal at all, to make others aware of whats the go for cheap prices these days :P on spinning HDD and its not Australian warranty or stock! xmagic concurrs

Should only deals that beat or matches the best deal be posted?

    • +1

I certainly appreciate people posting what a HDD could be had for per TB. especially for items that one is not in a rush to get.
I'll wait for the next deal. and there will always be a next deal, no FOMO.

Checked my old logs, I paid $449 for a brand new WD 18TB drive from Amazon back in Nov 2021. That was $24.94 per TB.

  • This is probably the most awkward time to come up with a better offer than this particular one at 8-14TB range.

If a 3-year warranty manufacturer refurbished drive from a reputable seller counts, this will be more than $100 cheaper and likely more performant, with practically the same experience.

    • Hey I'm looking to get a couple hard drives for my NAS - probably 12-14TB.

What you have linked looked very well priced and I would be happy to pull the trigger but I hear (no pun intended) that the Exos are very loud and I would prefer to avoid overly noisy drives.

Anything else you can suggest, via another seller perhaps?

      • They're not much more noisier than WD heliums. East Digital also has HC550 pulls (not FR, these are really used drives) which are even cheaper, and are WD, if that's what you want.

Maybe investing on a sound dampening closet is better, if noise is a real issue.

      • SSD's

      • I am about to return a Exos X18 16TB. I cant handle the noise anymore!! It does this horrid MERP MERP MERP noise and low level vibration that travels thru the desk! Only had it for few weeks, still in amazon return window. It went into the same slot as 10year old RED.
I've always used WD Reds and are going back, i thought after ~20years of no seagates they might be better….

        • Yes Reds are exactly what I have right now but need extra space so need to upgrade.

          • @bboz: Have bought 20TB Red pro $720

            • @Arnor: It's that deal still on? Where?

    • Might be a good time to bring this thread up: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/891267

      • Yup that’s the case why setting expectations right and a proper warranty are so important. If just buying one or two drives without means of redundancy, better go with new drives from good source (new retail packaging or shucking).

As for FR drivers, as long as they fail within the warranty period, I’m happy 😃 Better than some sellers on Amazon who send FR drivers to customers on listings of cheap new drives.

$35/tb is a good deal imo

Have you never bought a HDD before? This deal is the most expensive $/tb on hard drive tag

    previous 10tb deals
