The individual units are 50% off at Colesworth quite often - 50% off at Coles right now as a matter of fact - and buying these individually at 50% off would cost you $27.30. So a saving of $3.30 if these are the exact ones you're looking for.

    • I don't normally see the Ultra range at supermarkets - perhaps limited stores? The blue coloured ones seem to be everywhere.

Interesting. I see them everywhere here in WA because I'm always looking out for the 50%!

        • We are bloody important in Westralia.

      • how are the ultras different? air tight?

        • +1

Ultras are hard plastic, made of Tritan. Very transparent like glass. Not microwave safe. Easily stackable, generally cubic shapes so very space efficient when you have a lot of them. Intended more for pantry storage.

Regular Sistema containers are a slightly softer plastic, more durable for being bashed around, microwave safe, etc. More of a general purpose food container, for leftovers, packed snacks/lunches, or general food storage, etc. They're basically opposite to Ultra - when full and closed they don't stack in a very dense/space efficient way, but that's not their intended use. Instead they pack very efficiently separated into empty lids & containers ready for temporary use.

          Both are airtight.

            @Alzori:

            Both are airtight.

            -1

regular Sistema e.g. Klip It are not airtight

            • @tonester: Are you sure? They do still have a rubber gasket. And I've had one of them implode/crush itself after being heated a bit much in the microwave and then left to cool with the lid on. If it wasn't airtight it would have let air in and ultimately survived.

              • +1

@Alzori: mixed success - the newer blue gasket ones with clips on all 4 sides are an improvement, but not a 100% reliable airtight or watertight seal when actually being used

that said, the big rectangular containers are still a popular choice for 'tobacco enthusiasts' making tuppedores inside their wineadors - they mostly seal ok when just sitting there holding humidity for the contents

EDIT: I don't have experience with the Ultra range because wrong shape for my use case

Thank God its out OOS at my OW. $24 saved!

Why do people buy these containers - to be Instagram influencers? Otherwise, why not just keep them in the plastic bags, etc. and pour them out and put a clip on opened ones

    • +10

I buy them because I have limited space so they stack nicely and help keep my cupboards organised, because they're clear so I can easily see what's in them, because the seals are more durable than other brands, because they look nice, because I make my own trail mix and cereals and need something to store them in, because chip clips don't always provide a good seal, because my young daughter finds them easy to open and close while still being airtight… I have more if you need?

Pantry moths. Those things can get into anything, clips are no match for them. After 2 infections 5 years apart I've decided to just shove everything into airtight containers. Contains infections.

Also it's much easier to find stuff.

      • the infestation is real! my tennis racket zapper has zapped hundreds of them
