  • Do these connect to Home Assistant?

    • +1

Looks like they are RF with a remote You can use a BroadLink RM4 pro with SmartIR and it should work great. That is the setup I use with my RF fans.

  • Is this DIY (plug in) or does it require a sparkie to install?

  • Is the led light replaceable?

    • Just waiting on some info and I'll let you know…

    • +1

Yes you can get the LED panel as a spare. The panel is plug and play and costs around $85. (Electrician shouldn't be necessary to change the LED panel should that be required) The LED driver is not available, ONLY the panel.

  • are the leds on these colour temp changing? i know some out there have 3 temp settings

    • +3

Yes they are colour changing, 2700k/4000k/5000k/6500k

    Wow, amazing.
When the product costs 1/2 of the install cost. WELP.

I know some sparkies who charge $600 PER FAN. It's a bloody joke.

I wish I had some kind of smart connectivity with my Aldi Casa fans.

    • Do you know some sparkies or is that just a sly comment?
Have you actually got a quote like that to install for your house in particular?

      Genuine questions.

      • Not just a quote. Paid them too.
Three fans, $600*3. Not me, cousin did. FML if I pay them that much.
I had them do lots of other work around the home, so paid them $200 per fan; I had six. I was lucky. Talking to people, they've been quoted between $300-400 per fan. Usually takes 30mins to do, with existing power supply.

        • Makes sense.
          Heap of variables though.
-sometimes fans take longer to put together than others
-if you get a remote unit for the fan you only need 1 switch at the wall (1cable does the switching)with a remote control to switch light and fan.
-remote units sometimes come with fans or as an extra.
          - if using a 3 speed wall controller and have a light you will need 2 cables from the wall up to the fan.(one to switch fan on off and one to switch light on and off)
          Other notables
          - if you pull down say a light fitting in the centre of the room and want to replace it with a ceiling fan you want to make sure you have like a timber truss in the ceiling to get a good screwing support to take the weight of the fan.
          - some of these factors can be to run more cabling or getting inside the roof space to put support timbers in to take the weight of the fans will definitely incur more cost obviously.

I had to change some a few weeks ago from old ones to new ones and when I pulled the old ones down they weren’t supported properly so I had to spend a couple of hours in the ceiling on a hot day to make sure the job was done right.
(Sometimes things are unknown until you pull things apart)

Guess it depends if the electrician is a friend or doing a cashy or a complete stranger.
          So many variables.

Other things would be how people quote.
If people have seen the house or looked at the job they would be more confident to price it accordingly.

If it is just a verbal estimate over the phone without looking at the house or anything then I wouldn’t be surprised if they randomly said $600 over the the phone due to them not knowing how hard or shit the job would be.
If they got there and had to get in the roof to do all the shit I mentioned for like 2-3 hours then I wouldn’t be surprised if their estimate makes sure it covers everything if things turn to shit.
Different story if that person then turns around and says well that job went well I’ll make it cheaper than the $600.

Other thing would be that they don’t want to do the work that much cause they busy or hate doing ceiling fans.
So they just say a more expensive price so they don’t get the work. But if they get the work the higher price makes it worth more while to them.

Hope any of this helps 😅

          • @JSWAN3: You made some great points there.
For me, it was to pull down a light fitting in the centre of the room and replace it with the ceiling fan. It just so happened that everything was in place for them.
The cousin was in an apt. New installs. So yes, I suppose there was a lot more work involved because of all the things you said; extra wiring, new holes, timber supports, etc.
            Good insights, thanks for sharing!

        • Usually takes 30mins to do

LOL, it can take multiple hours to do a single fan if everything turns out to be difficult. You can only do one in 30 minutes if there are zero roadblocks.

  • Do these need to be hardwired in or do they come with a GPO plug?

    • +1

Yes like 95% of the time these will need to be hardwired and installed by an electrician.
      (This one included)

  • Can you hook these up to a wall switch?
