  • How much does it weigh?

    • 2.27kg (the weight can be found in product page) but thanks for your help, i have updated the details on this page to reflect this information.

Good Deal, but have never been able to buy attractive items via epic hour successfully before.

    • +1

Don't give up, this might be the one.

    • +5

So is it like CatchoftheDay where the servers go down and they sell out in under a minute?

      • No, Shopping express is pretty decent unlike fail of the day.

        • +9

Dude, it's Crash of the Day, have some respect :P

      • Yes

  • +1

Great laptop, but the keyboard layout is really odd - there are no deidcated PgDn/PgUp/Home/End keys!

    • I think all 14" laptops don't have those dedicated buttons.
Some 15" laptops have it but not all.
Perhaps you need to look at 17" or higher laptop.

    • -4

there's no way in hell you'd ever buy a laptop that is set up like this…

      http://sp.sony-europe.com/da/629/204097.jpeg

      seriously sony?

btw. every laptop i've had has dedicated pgup pgdn end home keys… even down to 12s and 13s

      • +2

I did. And in the Z series, it's a very small price to pay for everything else you get.

      • +2

Sony keyboard designers must be smokin' crack.

        • lol what you guys on about. I have a sony Vaio Z cost $3500 2 yrs ago for top of the line.

All the 14 inch screens do this. We just hold one key then push the arrows for pg up, down etc.

Pretty standard practise really for most laptops… to have a function key

        • i think its a fairly minor annoyance to push FN-PGDN for the task of scrolling down a webpage or pdf or Word doc

i mean who does that that? no one i guess

        • +1

People with 13-14" screen laptops. I assume you buy keyboards with dedicated copy/paste/cut keys and don't press Ctrl+C/V/X. Same thing.

        • I think the worst thing about this keyboard is the layout of it. Forget about the page up or down they really should be using the island style keyboard. My 13" laptop had more than enough room to include this. I think the general crammed nature of this keyboard is far worse than the missing keys.

    • +5

Just wait for all the neg votes for your silly rant & neg voting of the bargain :)

  • any deal of 15" laptop?

    • I bought this acer i5 from kingwork for $629 with 8gb ram but now it's $699 with 16gb ram, has 2 gb graphics, looks good, not sure if you like acer, had one before and it served me well

      http://www.kingwork.com.au/catalog/54-acer/852-acer-aspire-3…

      • For what it's worth that's a lower resolution screen at higher size, which means significantly less PPI. The graphics card (GT630M) is generally speaking slower than the 7670M listed in this promotion.

        Just pointing out the discrepancies.

        • to put it simply that deal is not very good

  • bought from the boxing day sale, postage is quite fast, server was decent, stock control seem good unlike catch of the day and mwave hourly deal, the rep could be more responsive though

  • I really want this as I need a lappy but with only 50, I hope I will be one of the lucky ones to grab one.

  • It's a good deal in my book, but surface pro …

So hard to resist the temptation.

  • +1

Props to you for being open about how many you have available, and that number being reasonable. I've previously written off shopping express, but I will give you a go now.

    • +1

Don't be too excited just yet…

  • So is the colour of the keyboard gold as pictured on the website?

  • -1

anyone know what time AEDT is. Australian time obviously but what city.

    • +1
    • Lord Howe Island is currently on AEDT.

      • thanks guys i googled it myself but didnt realise AEDT meant daylight savings time

  • Does anybody know if this has an ExpressCard slot?

  • +1

rep does it include tax invoice? want to claim TRS :D

    • yes me too! Rep can you answer pls?

      • +2

yes invoice from shopping express does include gst

        • not the rep, but thank you. +1

  • how old is this laptop? 2nd gen processor, so im guessing a couple years old?

  • I guess everyone left here really quick when the centrecom deal ($299) was posted :)

    • Or they're waiting for it to actually happen on Sunday

    • heh, kinda different class of lappie tho this being 14", 1600x900, dedicated gfx, backlit k/b… + accessories.

      • +2

        And not pink!

  • +1

    good price, must resist.

  • -2

    video cars is really low….

    • +1

7670? It can play most games.

      • Definetly, I have that in a Toshiba L850 and it will play most games at medium-high (depending on resolution). The only one I've had real trouble with was GTA IV, but I believe that is to be expected.

  • does anyone know if it's easy to replace hdd on it? I have a ssd and would like to replace the original hdd…

currently have an old vaio sz, and it wasn't easy to replace it (without having to open the whole thing)

  • so does this have the gold keyboard or black keyboard??

    • +1

Black keyboard with a red or gold cover perhaps?

  • I need one, hopefully the servers don't crash.

  • What is the CPU model number?
Also when you turn it for the first time, does it ask for you to select the language during setup?
I need a Chinese version of the OS.

    Thanks.

    • i5-2450M
Usually u download the language pack from Windows Updates.

      • Thanks. Strangely the Chinese software I use doesn't work with the language pack. Only works if you install Chinese from the start!

        • Your problem might be non-unicode characters; this is a problem I sometimes run into with Japanese games.

The Microsoft language packs actually just change the various menus and dialog box texts over to another language; they don't have anything directly to do with to OS's ability to display a given language.

If your software writes text to the screen in unicode, then it should display correctly regardless of which language settings you have (as long as the fonts are installed). But if the software uses some old encoding system (e.g. Shift-JIS for Japanese), then the OS can usually tell that it's meant to be a non-Roman language, but there's no clean way to tell which language it should be. That's why you need to find the setting for which language to assume non-unicode text should be rendered into.

One small problem with this is that if you want to mix languages in your software, it can get weird. It's usually not too bad for English and something else, though. For example, when running mostly English software but with Japanese non-unicode support, all the happens most of the time is that "/" is drawn as a yen symbol.

  • I won't buy this as I don't need it, but it looks awesome. However if I did intend to buy this I'd also buy an SSD with it and slap the HDD in an external case, its the weakest part of the specs by far.

Grays seem to have had it for $629 - http://www.graysonline.com/retail/SVE14A15FGH-R/computers-an… - so not that much of a saving?

    • Refurbished and only 3mth warranty

  • +2

This got more votes than stock and 5700 clicks.

This gonna be out of stock before you can hit F5

  • How long does it from purchase date do i need to leave australia for the TRS 10% refund? Cheers

    • 30 days.

  • I tried buying one but sold out in under 3 minutes! :(

  • Whew, got one :D

  • YES! For once, I actually got in.

  • +1

haha… i accidentally nearly bought it for $750!

tho it seems i still managed to beat a bunch of people with that 5 minute stuff up

    • This happened to me. My cart said $557 and then clicked onto paypal and they wanted $750

  • Got one. $558.85 delivered.

  • +1

sold out in 5 mins.. i even paid via paypal express and then it says no more stock!!!

    • Exact same thing happened to me. I went via paypal and even though I was refreshing my cart from 7:57pm every 10 seconds with 2 browsers I was unlucky.

  • Got one too :)

  • Got one! I love the keyboards, I have a SB Series this one will go to the gf.

  • Holy f**k!

It said no more available, I tried again and it confirmed my ORDER.

    :?

    • Same happened to me too!!!!

      • Same here :(

    • +1

Never take no for an answer. :D

      • My feelings too, especially at the end of a date.

  • Yay, got one. Add to cart - > checkout -> paypal -> back from paypal and need to confirm details -> process order -> after loading for a while I'm thrown back wbecause I didn't agree to terms -> process order -> waiting during load again and I'm thrown back because I forgot to add phone number (f*ck) -> process order -> Order complete :)

Was 7.00 when I added to cart and just turned 7.04 when processed. Didn't think it was going to be good enough considering how hammered these things usually get, but maybe I was just being overly paranoid :)

    • waiting during load again and I'm thrown back because I forgot to add phone number (f*ck)

LOL, had the same thing happen to me. I thought I had made sure I had all details filled in my account beforehand, so I was surprised when the phone number wasn't auto-filled. Got my order in at 8:04 here, too.

      • I registered an account beforehand (never used this site before) and I'm sure I filled in phone number, so maybe that field is special.

    • Exactly the same thing that happened to me! Thought that I missed out but order went through, yay :-)

Thanks Rep for the deal! Nice timing…my laptop just burned..

      • Ah..ticked the rep box by mistake, doesn't seem to be able to remove it…

  • So tempting at these specs and price but I don't really need another laptop laying around!

  • Nooo, I completely forgot :(

EDIT: 2mins later Add button came back
    Anddd done through paypal :D:D

  • +1

wow first time i've ever been able to get through on one of these things!

strange thing is i just went back to the website and for a laugh i added another one into my cart and it's sitting there for $549… i'll remove it down but yeah i thought that was wierd

  • -2

there's still stock left 8:15, not such a great deal?

    • Weird, I refreshed 10 min ago and the "add to cart" button was gone (which I took to mean it was sold out).. but it is back now

    • not such a great deal?

I thought it was. But if you find a better one, feel free to post it.

    • They sold out at about 8:05, but it looks like they added a bit more stock later on. From the comments here, demand clearly exceeded supply.

  • out of stock

  • +2

Almost bought something i didn't need. Glad its over.

    • +1

      lol.. I was the same..

  • Anyone else still seeing them available? I don't see any "Add to Cart" any more…
