    I Just read in the 'Contact Us' that you are on holiday till 14 of Jan and will only be working two days a week and to add an extra week handling time, will this effect the shipping time for this deal??

          You can do a clean install. The "upgrade" is only really signifying that you have an existing license so the cost is only $14.99.

          I purchased when my sibling got a new laptop and it installed and activated no problems on my home desktop :P

      I called them up earlier today to confirm whether it's being shipped out. The rep confirmed that (as of noon) that none of the laptops have been packed, but that they will be packed and shippped out by tonight (no time given).

      Looks like they missed the deadline? =(

        Very disappointing - defiantly won't be getting it this week then. If they had the stock on hand and all sales finalised by 8:30pm Sunday night there is no reason they couldn't be sent out Monday, let alone Tuesday.

        I think the only colour sold in this deal was "Gun Metallic" with gold trim around the keyboard keys and trackpad.

    Received this morning. Australia Post just left it at my doorstep despite the delivery instructions being "delivery signature always required".

    Is it normal for the LCD to have faint vertical lines visible from most viewing angles? The display is pretty poor, but maybe I'm just used to IPS displays (not TN like this laptop). Build quality is rather plasticy (plastic bits not much better than an ice cream container), and the fan is rather loud. That being said, I'm still pretty happy with the price!

    Now to put a SSD in this thing…

    Mine arrived this morning!

    Seems like a pretty reasonable bargain so far; runs just like my desktop except it doesn't crash and its mobile!

    CAVEAT: I tried Skype today with the internal mic and unfortunately there was a lot of background noise coming from the computer during my phone call. My computer is in a silent room so the noise is definitely coming from the laptop, it sounds like it picks up the internal fan noise somehow. I ended up having to plug in an external mic - which didn't pick up any noise and functioned as per usual - to get through the phone call.

    REQUEST: Can someone please confirm whether they experience this same problem with the internal mic. Perhaps try Skype (echo test) or sound recorder.

    Anyone got this successfully installed with Windows 8? I put it on this afternoon and am left with 1 unknown device - from what I can tell is the "Sony Firmware Extension Parser" - and I cannot find a driver for this. Also the Battery checker keeps saying it has the wrong battery and forces it into hibernation so I'd avoid installing that if you can.

      I did a test installation of Windows 8 Pro on an external HDD^ and I experienced both of those problems, too! Doesn't inspire much confidence in Sony's support for this machine, I have to say. :)

      The Sony Australia website doesn't have the driver for the "Sony Firmware Extension Parser", but there's one on their US site for a similar model which resolved the issue for me: http://esupport.sony.com/US/p/swu-download.pl?mdl=SVE14A25CX…

      I'm probably going to avoid all of the drivers on their AU support page except these ones when it comes time to upgrade to Windows 8 for real:

      Graphics Driver for PX5 (AMD)
      MRHD Graphics Driver for Discrete (AMD)
      Memory Card Reader Writer Driver_MS (Ricoh)
      Memory Card Reader Writer Driver_SD (Ricoh)
      Pointing Driver (Synaptics)

    Hello, this is my first time with a Sony(Computer) product.
    I tried looking up compatability of RAM I can pick up at my local MSY that will work with this computer with out much luck.

    I believe the general specifications of the memory modules that will fit are:
    8GB Memory 204 Pin DDR3-1333 PC3-10600 1024x64 CL9 1.5V SODIMM

    Is this laptop finiky with the brands of memory that will work with it?
    Or better yet has anyone already upgraded the RAM to 16GB, could they post the brand and model number of the RAM.

      Yes — probably the worst trackpad I've ever used. Quite a few reviews of the Vaio E14 out there also criticise it.
