Is mycar Any Good For Servicing a BYD Vehicle?

I wonder if mycar is as good as servicing at BYD dealers.

For the record, mycar is the only other authorised byd service

    BYD dealers don't do servicing

In fact there are no BYD dealers

mycar are generally $h1t but BYD suggest using them….

Huh? There are no BYD dealers? I literally live half way between two of them that would be less than 30km either way.

Ironically, both of them do servicing… of BYD vehicles.

Weirdly enough, the MyCar that is close to me does not do BYD vehicles at all… (and is only about 5km from the BYD dealer.)

    • If you’re outside a capital city, there’s a few BYD sales offices, but no service centres, so the only viable option is the local MyCar.

    what service do you need?
oil and coolant and new piston rings?

yes goto mycar, they are byd recommended.

  • mycar is a budget service.

I use them because they do a bare minimum service and don't try and do anything proactive or upsell me anything at all for my POS.

I pick up the car, and they say, "there is a few things wrong with it, but nothing worth fixing." I like that.

Would I get a new car serviced there? No.

They're basically not doing anything, but they provide the tick in the logbook for cheap.

There are very few services they actually need to do anything on an EV, basically look at the car and make sure it still moves. So long as the computer says it's fine, it's probably fine.

They're fine if all you need is an oil change.

  • +2

Yeah, make sure specify you need an oil, radiator fluid and spark plug change as well !

don't forget to check the flux capacitor is working, because without it you won't be able to reach 88mph

    • +3

I understand the joke but don't forget BYD sells hybrids too.

      • You probably don't understand the 88 mph joke in the movie.

Deloreans' speedos don't actually go up to 88 mph. They were only built and sold in the years after the fuel shock of the 70s when speedos in US cars were required by law to not read higher than 85.

    • Aside from the fact that BYD makes hybrids, even their fully electric cars call for transmission oil and coolant changes as maintenance items.

I think it'd be dependent on your local tbh and who's running it. My local has a very good rep and shows changed parts as proof as work. I typically run my eyes over things like Air filters and oil afterwards anyway but it's just nice that he's so transparent.

I've read other places arent great.

Like others have mentioned, when needing a major service, for peace of mind I take it to the manufacture/dealer servicing, this was for a fuel filter in a Toyota Camry.

Not that Google reviews are gospel, it might be a good starting point to do your own research into their level of service.

    • My local has a very good rep and shows changed parts as proof as work.

And then they put them back in the cupboard and bring them out for the next customer that they've billed for replacing the same parts for.

I bet they still try up selling an injector cleaning service.

Mycar are a franchise and dont seem to include service quality as part of their system. They are no better or worse than picking a mechanic at random.
Theres likely a BYD fb page you can join and use the search for discussion about them.

MyCar is wholly owned by Continental AG - they do not have franchisee's

      • I assumed they were a franchise because of the massive variation in service quality across them. Thanks for the correction.
Ive seen and heard awful things about some of them, and know from experience that a few are pretty decent.
Good to know that there is a corporate head office to direct complaints to.

So you are leasing it from them?

It nearly always works out cheaper if you buy instead…

It's a gamble as depends on the manager etc. Some are good but others are terrible.

  • My car is not going to service your car. It has no interest in your car in that way.

  • Mycar if they are still like the previous name then I would not go anywhere near them with a 10 foot barge pole.

  • I think how good the local Mycar is, is wholly dependent on the manager of the store.

My local Mycar has got great review on Google. I only been there for the Pirelli Black Friday sale and my experience with them has been fine.

With an EV, there's not much servicing they do so I wouldn't hesitate to take it to my local Mycar.

  • Depends if it’s yourcar, mycar or theircar.

    On a serious note:
They are a POS. I’d avoid them if you care at all for your car.
