Yesss, I'm glad I held out on my preorder!

    • +2

Why does the graphics look like Playstation 3-4 level?

      • +4
        • So 2035 we will have base Playstation 5 level graphics on Nintendo hardware? Damn, long wait for a realistic Zelda game.

          • +9

@Dollar Dreamer: Yo wake me up when the new Nintendo is as thick and tall as a PS5! With a battery that weighs 2kg. Games are nothing without blurry but accurate puddle reflections.

          • +2

@Dollar Dreamer: Switch has a bigger battery and a better display than PS5.

            • +1

@TightLikeThisx: nice try but switch 2 battery life is worse than switch 1. lol

              • +2

@Mirror XT8: You say nice try but I took my PS5 on the train the other day to play and it was so heavy compared to the switch. Its battery was so small it wouldn’t even turn on. What’s the point in good graphics if the console won’t turn on and had no screen to even see the graphics.

                Worst design ever.

            • @TightLikeThisx: It also has better joy cons

            • -1

@TightLikeThisx: Good joke - too bad nobody got it. Although does that make it a good joke? :')

      • +11

You’re asking why a hybrid handheld console that’s much smaller than the PS5 router has graphics at the level of last gen?

      • +1

Does it matter, the next pokemon will look like a PS2 game anyway.

        • I think I was being generous when I said PlayStation 4, this looks like PlayStation 3 graphics but in 1080P / 4K modes.

      • +2

it's actually between PS4 and PS4 Pro levels of power/graphics

        • -2

          not even close.

          • @Dollar Dreamer: ok, that's your opinion vs the opinion of tech analysts and AI after analyzing hw specs and demos

            https://x.com/i/grok/share/CxYiuTaB3o4KY494DRaBQ0I4L

The Nintendo Switch 2 was officially revealed on April 2, 2025, during a Nintendo Direct, giving us a clearer picture of its capabilities through its specs and demoed games. While Nintendo hasn’t released a exhaustive technical breakdown, the available information—combined with leaks, demos, and expert analysis—allows us to make an educated comparison to the PS4 and PS4 Pro in terms of power.
The Switch 2 features a custom NVIDIA Tegra T239 processor, 12 GB of RAM, and 256 GB of UFS 3.1 storage. It supports 4K resolution at up to 60 FPS in docked mode and 1080p at up to 120 FPS in handheld mode, leveraging NVIDIA’s DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling) technology for upscaling. The original PS4, released in 2013, has a 1.6 GHz 8-core Jaguar CPU, 8 GB of GDDR5 RAM, and a GPU capable of 1.84 TFLOPS, targeting 1080p gaming. The PS4 Pro, launched in 2016, upgrades this with a GPU offering 4.2 TFLOPS, 8 GB of GDDR5 RAM (plus 1 GB DDR3 for background tasks), and support for 4K output (often via checkerboarding rather than native rendering).
In docked mode, the Switch 2’s ability to output 4K at 60 FPS aligns it more closely with the PS4 Pro, which was designed to handle 4K gaming, albeit with techniques like checkerboarding or upscaling rather than native 4K in most cases. The PS4, by contrast, is largely limited to 1080p and lacks the horsepower for consistent 4K performance. The Switch 2’s use of DLSS—a modern AI-driven upscaling technology not available to either PS4 model—gives it an edge in achieving higher resolutions efficiently, potentially surpassing the PS4 Pro’s raw rendering demands in some scenarios. However, its portable nature imposes power and thermal constraints, suggesting that its GPU and CPU clocks (rumored to be around 1-1.5 GHz based on leaks) are lower than the PS4 Pro’s, which could limit its raw computational power.
Demo footage from the reveal, including games like an enhanced The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild targeting 1080p/60 FPS and third-party titles like Street Fighter 6 and Elden Ring, shows visuals that sit between PS4 and PS4 Pro quality in terms of fidelity and performance. For instance, Elden Ring on PS4 runs at 1080p with frame rates often dipping below 30 FPS, while the PS4 Pro improves this to a more stable 30 FPS with higher resolution (up to 1800p checkerboarded). Posts on X and analyses from sources like Digital Foundry suggest the Switch 2’s docked performance lands closer to the PS4 Pro, especially with DLSS smoothing out frame rates and boosting perceived resolution beyond what the base PS4 could achieve. In handheld mode, however, its 1080p/120 FPS cap (likely for less demanding titles) and lower power draw suggest a drop closer to or slightly above base PS4 levels.
The Switch 2’s 12 GB of RAM exceeds the PS4 Pro’s 8 GB (for gaming), offering more headroom for modern game engines, but its memory bandwidth—estimated at 68-102 GB/s based on leaks—falls short of the PS4 Pro’s 218 GB/s, potentially bottlenecking performance in GPU-intensive tasks. Its CPU, while more modern and efficient than the Jaguar cores in the PS4 and PS4 Pro, is still tailored for a hybrid device, not a dedicated console, so it likely doesn’t match the Pro’s raw multi-core performance.

Overall, the Switch 2’s power in docked mode is more akin to the PS4 Pro than the base PS4, thanks to its 4K output, DLSS-enhanced visuals, and demoed performance. It doesn’t quite reach the PS4 Pro’s peak TFLOP count or memory bandwidth but compensates with newer tech and efficiency, making it a close match—perhaps slightly below in raw power but competitive in practical output. In handheld mode, it dips closer to base PS4 territory, though its modern architecture keeps it punchy for its form factor. So, while not a definitive “Pro” or “base” match, it leans toward the PS4 Pro as a better comparison, especially when docked.

            • @[Deactivated]: Take DLSS out of the equation and it would be nowhere near as powerful.

It will be interesting to see how it will truly cope. I think having more in common with mid-tier laptops is better than going down a proprietary format for nintendo. Would be interesting to see what is actually custom in the Tegra chip. Have they beefed it up or stripped it back?

              • @serpserpserp: it is 4-6x faster at the hw level without DLSS

the first switch is abysmally slow

                • @[Deactivated]: 4-6x faster than switch 1? That would not be terribly hard I guess. If on par with a PS4, that would be the interesting test.

      • Because its a handheld/hybrid. It's obviously not for you.

  • Released in: 27 days

    ???
    is that true?

    • +4

Pretty sure the Nintendo Direct from this morning about it said it was being released in June?

    • +3

      Should be 5th June

  • +28

Finally, someone has the decency to post an actual Switch 2 bargain

    • +3

The real Switch 2 gameplay is finding the $2 savings

  • +19

    Finally a proper bargain.

  • +7

I can buy half an egg with that saving. Got one thanks OP!

    • Which could make for half an egg on the face of those who posted RRP as deals!

  • +2

Switch2 now $2 cheaper than RRP!

  • +38

$629.99 at Sanity with code: SDC2IB7830

you could buy a banana tree or two with the leftover change

    • +10

      Sanity is still around? Wow.

    • It Works!

    • $693 for the Mario kart bundle! cheapest!

      • Link?

      • I couldn't find the Mario bundle but decided I'd just stick with 8 even longer. I've been on it since the (profanity) Wii U, I can hang out a bit longer.

    • +2

I bit, did it on after pay to lie to myself (and hide from the missus) but I bit.

Did not think I'd enter this 2 dollars off RRP thread for a laugh and leave preordering the (profanity)

    • Damn out of stock. I do like the fact that I can go into a brick and mortar store for returns/repairs though so still glad I went through EB

      • EB was great for me when I had Dualsense drift issues so I get what ya mean.

        • How old was the controller? I took one in that started playing up after 54 weeks and they refused to do anything because they would only cover drift up to 52 weeks.

          • @Vool: It was about 54 weeks also, I have a fairly friendly bunch at my local. Was a launch console

        • Same here with joycon drift. Have returned several joycon with joycon drift am very glad I haven’t had to buy another set of joycon since day 1 8 years ago.

Can’t imagine explaining joystick drift to a non-gaming-store employee

        • Check out mobapad controllers, Hall effect joysticks and clicky buttons for about a hundred dollars. Really comfortable and great for shmups.

    • can't seem to get the code to work

  • +20

$120 for Mario Kart World, holy hell!

      • +3

No shade, but you believe this?

          • +4

@GS-RN: Are you forgetting that SNES and N64 games were more expensive than switch 2 games?

              • +1

@GS-RN: Edit: Whoops, just reread and saw you already mentioned less sales. I missed that before I replied, sorry. I'll leave my comment here anyway.

Also more games are sold these days because there are more gamers. For example, Super Mario Kart (SNES) sold 8.76m copies. Compare that to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (Switch) which has sold 67.35m (and counting) copies. That's nearly 8x as many.

              • @GS-RN: damn those micro tractions on my mario karts!!!!!!!

            • +2

@belongsinforums: Yeah nothing new across most generations. I've got a copy of MGS4 with an EB games $114.95 price sticker on it, and at the time in 08 the AUD was doing well.

            • @belongsinforums: Good call SNES pricing was very strange, a brand new game could be 140 at the most expensive but the console itself was only 200

            • @belongsinforums: True. My dad paid (bought me) Super Street Fighter 2 for 129.90 from Kmart in 1994. Which is 289 dollars today.

            • @belongsinforums: This is correct. I paid $120 AUD for Street Fighter Turbo on SNES in 1993.

      • I'll wait till it goes on sale and I'm not touching online this time around.

      • You don't think MKW is not going to have microtransactions? Have you seen Mario Kart Tour?

    • +3

Worst part is we all know Nintendo games barely ever drop in price. At least most $120 PS5/XSX games are heavily discounted in like a year or so.

      • This is true but it also generally works in your favour when it comes to selling physical games secondhand. I don't buy physical games anymore on anything except Nintendo consoles because XBox/PS5 games are worth about $5-10 after a couple of years.

    • +1

Nintendo games were always hella overpriced, one of the main reason I never bought one of their consoles, there are never bargains or sales ever, Nintendo are greedy, they won't even give away a packaged game on their profusely overpriced console.

    • +1

      Ridiculous isn't it

  • Officeworks single handedly saves switch 2 pre-order!

  • With all that money saved, I can buy two!

  • Do we know anything about backward compatibility? I've got a decent backlog of switch1 games but hey if I'm gonna buy this anyway may aswell play through on this?

or do I just grind it out now before release?!

    • +2

      Compatible with some most games.

    • +3

It’s compatible with all games, minus games that rely on other Joy Con accessories such as Labo or Ring Fit Adventure that use the IR sensor.

      • +4

They are compatible, you just need to use Switch 1 joycons.
Labo isnt compatible when it requires the switch console to be inserted, such as the vr kit, due to the larger size of switch 2.

        • I’m sure someone can design a better Labo VR case for the Switch 2 if they’re determined enough.

    • Can't go up a level if you're already level 4 :(

I'm not buying $5000 Pokemon cards to get to level 5

    • dont think you can use ultimate GC directly as online purchase (including preorder) doesn't do split payment
and ultimate GC in woolworths only have a max of $100 denomination

However, you could use ultimate GC to exchange for JB / EG Games GC (not officeworks)
      then purchase Switch 2 online

  • +2

    FINALLY a drop in price!

  • +1

Bargain! $2 is still a bargain!

Personally HODL for trade-in of my old switch.

    • Trade-in of your old Switch requires a market of people who want to buy an old Switch 1.

      • Or they can go and get ripped off at EB. They’re giving $200 for a switch + 4 games.

  • O̶z̶B̶a̶r̶g̶a̶i̶n̶
    OzSale

  • would seriously consider this if I can install Citrix and use it as my WFH device.

    • +4

If you really wanted to do that you could get the 256gb Steam Deck for $50 less and dual boot.

      • I can't believe Nintendo have included a built-in mouse (2 of them!); but haven't added any kind of "compting" component (I'm thinking a lite-Chromebook style interface).

Would be a game-changer if it could also access the Android app-store; or even just "Nintendo approved" Android apps.

I'm still annoyed I can't install Steam Link/Moonlight on my Switch (1) and play Steam/PC games over WiFi.

        • +6

their audience could care less about this

        • +1

Nintendo would never do it though, it'd eat into their game sales I reckon.

I'm jealous of the people who got in early on the OG Switch that still had the unpatched RCM exploit on it. They were doing all sorts of cool shit like that. I'm pretty sure there was even a fully functional custom Android ROM for it.

    • Jest use teams in a browser.

  • Been waiting for a deal. Thanks OP.

  • +2

OP is mistaken with being able to "buy a banana or two with the leftover change". We all know a banana costs 10 dollars.

    • +1

tell me about it. and a movie ticket costs, what? $70?

  • +1

Does anyone still remember why the price of the 3DS dropped by nearly one-third just 166 days after its launch?

    • Have you seen the prices of 3DS on the second-hand market now?

      • +2

What I mean is that the initial launch price of the 3DS was too high, and its weak game lineup led to poor sales, prompting an official price cut. Looking at the recent NS2 launch event, there are many similarities. Moreover, the price difference between the Japanese and overseas versions (a gap of 10,000 yen) raises the possibility that history might repeat itself.

        • +2

I cant see it, a new pokemon alone will sell tons of NS2

        • With every preorder deal selling out within hours, not sure that is going to happen.

      • I have a barely used 3ds xl metallic red what you reckon it's worth? 250? Barely played the thing so I don't have any quelms selling to fund what looks like $1000+ needed for a successful S2 Launch.

    • Maybe low sales and to boost the sales before the Vita came out? I think the Vita may have launched WAY later, but I can't really remember.

    • +3

too much bad experience with KOGAN< i would not risk it. but that's my opinion and experience.

    • Yes now I just need to wait on my $400 Kogan credit from their Black credit card deal

    • +1

Reckon Officeworks will match and beat?

    • -1

Knowing Kogan you'll probably end up receiving whatever the Nintendo equivalent of the Sorny Polystation is.

  • +1

that represents a saving of 0.00286% on the $699 price tag…. nice one

    • Uhhh I think it's a bit more than that chief
