Thanks, 4 rolls for the price of 1 at Bunnings!

Appreciate it! We know prices are wild out there — we’re just doing what we can to bring some proper deals. And don’t even get us started on groceries… we’re seriously considering opening a grocery store next 😅

  • Do you recommend reusing or replacing the spline?

    • I've done this many times, doesn't seem to be an issue.

      • We actually just replaced one of our flyscreens after 20+ years and just reused the old spline and it still worked fine. If the spline isn’t cracked or stretched, reusing it would be fine. But if it’s looking a bit tired and had its day, replacing it isn’t a bad idea.

    • +2

In myexperience reusing it makes no impact on how effective it is, it's just more annoying to install because it's already hardened to a degree. Spline is cheap enough that makes sense to just use new stuff to save yourself some time and annoyance.

    • +1

I'd probably reticulate it if I were you.

  • Only black colour available?

    • +1

Just black available at the moment 😊

      • I don't suppose you know what the 'black powder' in the coated finish is made from?

  • What is the self life of these screen , I would like to buy but don’t know when I will be replacing it

    • How would shelf life differ to lifespan once installed? It's 316 Stainless Steel mesh.

    • +1

There's no real expiry, as long as you keep it in a cool, dry spot, it’ll last years. We've seen people use it after 5–10 years in storage without any dramas

  • Thanks OP. Bought.

  • Thanks I also bought one cheers , great deal appreciated

  • Awesome!! bought 2 for me new place

  • +3

Is this one strong enough to handle my cat clawing on it?

  • +2

How do you fit these? I'm in a rental so don't want anything too difficult.

    • +5

The frame will have a groove into which you push the mesh and that rubber piping stuff (called spline). The spline secures the mesh. Stainless steel mesh is a bit awkward as it has to be pushed into the groove and secured by the spline very carefully as it's easy to not do it eventually enough so it has constant tension across the screen. It also doesn't have any ability to stretch and thus pull itself into shape. It's also a prick of a thing to trim.

You may want to attempt it with a plastic or even a fibreglass mesh if you don't need the ember-stopping abilities of this stainless steel mesh or you don't have animals clawing at it. It should be a bit more forgiving when you have to redo bits of the install.

      • +1

This .. I have more choice words though. Stainless is a pia to keep taught and roll in.

      • Ok thanks for that. I might pass on this one.

        • I say have a go at it but not with stainless steel. Do you know what type of mesh is there now? The way to tell if it is stainless steel is that any kinks or bends will stay. If you have a tear or something you can give it a little try by folding a bit over. Generally, metal will stay folded and fibreglass or plastic will not hold and will unfold.

You say you are renting so you might have to ask the landlord, or just do it but don't stuff it up…! If you caused any damage to the screen and you want to fix it then you have more of an impetus to have a go at it…. Non stainless-steel screen is pretty cheap. There will probably be a few videos on YouTube to refer to as well.

  • Thanks OP, bought one.

BTW, I got the address a little wrong and have emailed reply to your order (#74600) email. Could you please fix it?

    Thanks

    • No probs at all
I’ll have the team sort this out for you :)

  • Hi,

Does anyone have any recommendations on where to get materials to make your own frames?

    Thanks, Panda

    • +2

Thanks OP - my missus is never gonna guess what i bought from ozb today

Can I use these screens to replace existing fly screen portion of the common diamond grill security screens?

    • This is my question also. Can you then remove the diamond grille?

      • +1

"High strength and durability" in this case is not in the sense of security.

Security screen doors are usually make to order and require profession install.

There are privacy (one way reduced visibility) aluminium sheets you can buy in a roll to replace regular flyscreens, stronger than mesh but not totally secure, though DIY-able.

  • Price is good, but Bunnings review of product not good. https://www.bunnings.com.au/cyclone-910mm-x-2m-316-stainless…

Anyone with experience using this vs fibreglass?

    • Fibreglass is great! If you don't have cats, and you don't need the BAL rating, and you don't live near the ocean, and you don't expose it to the suns UV.. Basically if you never touch it, then you might get 5 years out of it before you have to replace it, but at least it's easier to replace I guess

    • +3

Sometimes you have to take those reviews with a grain of salt. There is a total of 1 review complaining about it, the other 1 review is about the packaging.

Not saying this is the case, but often poor results are due to user error.

  • Can Anyone share a video on how to install these?

  • Any larger sizes? 91cm just too sort for me

  • Does 4 pack mean that it’ll fit 4 windows?

  • +1

Thanks for the sale OP, purchased.

For those who have never replaced a screen before, it’s relatively simple and satisfying (and good to plug up the holes before bugs come in) whether you are renting or owning and takes only a small amount of time to do.

Use a little sugar soap or similar to clean out the frame beforehand.

If you do not have steady hands just take your time so you do not the mesh with the roller.

The only time I have had to replace early are due to cockatoos. It will withstand a few attacks for a short time before they can cut through.

  • any deals on fly screen frames?

    • Don’t know I bought 2 x 4 so hopefully cover my windows , front standard size fly screen door and my back yard door which is 2 x front door size 😅

      • I guess you could measure them.

        • Yes I probably should before buying it but deal was so quick !

  • Are these better for insects than the regular plastic ones. What benefits are there for us regular people that don’t live on the coast? I’m trying to find a reason to buy haha

I just realised there's one more thing I forgot to add to the second order - can I email support to get my two orders combined to save you separate postage? and am I able to add another item to it all (it won't allow me free shipping for that small value item)?

        • +1

    • Hi @DIYcharcat, don't suppose I can cancel too? I bought these for our new house being built thinking we had to supply our own flyscreens only to drop by there today… lo and behold they've just put them in!
