3000A car jump starter and portable battery, has good reviews.

Keep leaving my lights on in my old car and coming back to a flat battery. This works out cheaper than racq
These seem pretty popular here and at a decent price with the April coupon codes from eBay
(I signed up to a month of eBay plus to save the extra $2)

It seems their whole range is on sale but you have to go to the individual product pages, not the one with all the options - only had a $6 coupon there when I looked

I'd be a bit worried about having a cheapo lithium polymer battery in the boot of my car hitting 48 degrees in the sun day after day.

    • +1

Need to add fire and theft to my 3rd party insurance

Jokes aside the other deals comments say it holds up fine. I was going to wrap it up and hide it with the spare tire

    • +2

These are a great bit of kit. Had mine in a bag next to the spare for years. Come in handy many times.

    • +1

Never had an issue with mine inside a 4WD Storage Draw and in a Canopy with all but a little roof vent. Mine has a case (I think they all come with it) and it has been 0 risk.

There is always a risk with batteries. Just like a lithium battery for a 12v system……. always a risk!

    • +2

Keep it in the boot, much cooler in there, or if an SUV/hatch, keep it in the storage space under the boot liner.

I have had mine (older GP4000) since 2021 in the boot of my car, no issues, the battery hasn't even bulged. I do recommend getting the EVA case, it is very protective and also helps insulate against any heat if you do leave it in the car cabin on a hot day.

    • One option is a supercapacitor jump starter. No battery and safe to use most temperatures. They also last forever (or until the electronics fail). Only downside is they can’t start a completely dead battery - you would need to plug it in briefly to a power bank or wall socket to do that.

I actually have a Gooloo unit bought a month ago that’s still sitting brand new in the box, probably will just sell it and go for a supercapacitor model, it’s not much more expensive if I import it

    • The manual says operating temps of upto 60C.

It also don't recommend leaving it in the car for extended periods of time in hot climates.

  • Planning to travel overseas and will be renting a car. Can I bring this on the plane?

    • +2

      22,800mAh * 3.7V -> 84Wh
Airlines usually want to know about stuff over 100Wh, so should be fine.

      • Thank you

    • +1

Why bother, the rental should come with roadside assistance?

      • +1

Will be driving in the middle of nowhere.

      • +1

Quicker to use this then wait for roadside assistance.

    • +2

It is fine as it is under 100Wh. You can check your airline's home page and they will tell you what the Wh limit is. Most airlines allow it on handcarry if it is less than 100Wh.

    • I've done it a few times.

However, in the most recent trip, I was told to either have my battery or jumper leads confiscated at SGN airport, before returning to MEL.
There have been a few cases of power banks catching on fire in-flight, so there is currently an elevated level of precaution at the security points now.

Note that I was on a rural road trip in Vietnam, so having the jumper leads made sense.
However, the airport security was not keen on having a power bank onboard, that had accessories that allowed it to dump craploads of current all at once.

I've got one of these and had 0 issues with it. Helped me the other day actually and it was still fully charged.

Its been stored in a draw in the canopy of my ute. Very handy!

  • +2

I've got one of these and it's saved my bacon once or twice and a member of the public..no issues with it. I just top it up every few months.

  • +3

Had mine for quite a few years now. It's saved me and lots of others plenty of times.
Have a reminder set to recharge it every 6 months. Acts as a great powerbank for extended power outages.

  • The GT3000 is a great unit with awesome features and power.

No need to go for the bigger and heavier GT4000 unless you have a really big donk lol.

unless you have a really big donk

      Thanks. Just ordered the 4000.

      • Haha, and a big engine.

        • +2

          I've only got a 1000cc 3 cylinder.

I've used mine 4 times in the last 2 weeks before finally replacing the battery today. Was fully charged still after keeping it in my car 3 years. And still had full bars after using it 4 times. Great product!

    • Comes in handy, doesn't it. IIRC, they say to charge it after you have jumped even just once.

  • I bought a GP2000 recently and have had mixed success with it. Ended up getting stuck and got rescued by someone with a Kings-brand unit. Dunno if it was a faulty unit - they offered a replacement - but I drive a 1.8L Hyundai so I'd take all the "starts an 8L truck" claims with a grain of salt.

edit: to clarify, I was able to start my car several times with it on a full charge. the time i got stuck I'd jumped it once successfully and then attempted to do it again ~30 minutes later and it couldn't do it. got rescued by a passer-by. charged it up again overnight and then it started it again the next morning (yes I've since resolved the issue with the battery)

    • There have been many positive reviews and happy customers including me for the GP2000. Love my GT3000 even more. The way the jumpstart battery has been used, maintained and stored as well as age all can have an affect.

Also if the battery that is in the vehicle you are trying to start is really dead, that can make it harder. I often leave the jump battery on the flat one for a minute or two before attempting to start. If spanners are handy, could disconnect terminals to start without the dead battery, then connect when motor is running.

      • +1

Yeah I bought it because they get rave reviews here. Who knows maybe I just got a dud. As I said, they did offer to a return.

        • Possibly. I would return and buy this one if you can. Love the 100W in and out USB C,

even includes the 100W cig charger (used to be, but not sure in this kit here as not listed)

and 100W usb c cable and bag.

I picked up the Gooloo A3 inflator a while back and I reckon it was sub-$90. 3000A jump start and 150PSI compressor. Started a 6 cyl Falcon with a dead battery easily and the compressor has been handy on occasion too.

I comment whenever I see these deals come up. I can't recommend the gooloo jump starters enough. Mine has bailed me and the wife out a handful of times and we've used it to help other drivers jump start their cars.

Got GOOLOO 1500A Peak SuperSafe Car Jump Starter in Oct 2018, still jumping commonwhores.

MiL got GOOLOO Upgraded 2000A Peak SuperSafe Car Jump Starter which she didn't recharge so died within 12 months. The replacement one still kicking after 2 years.

Both kids driving now so got a new GOOLOO GP2000 late 2023

Every now and then I use it to charge the phones to cycle the batteries.

I don’t recommend ordering from these guys. I returned a brand new jump starter from them (outside eBay warranty return window) after they agreed to refund me in full upon receipt.

I thought that it would be fine, since they were a large company, but nope. After confirming receipt of the return they offered store credit - after I declined they ghosted me completely.

Not a huge amount of money but tilting nonetheless, and they’ve probably going to get away with it scot-free. If anyone has any ideas I’m all ears
