    No deal!

I’m planning a trip to the UK in Nov-Jan, and the standard fare for without seat selection is $4192 (2 people)

Discounted fare with this code is $3943 - so actual discount is about 6%

The reason for this seems to be the discount only applys to the base fare, which is about half the total cost.

Seat selection to my fare adds $420, making it more expensive than Emirates for the same dates.

    • I don't know how it is with Qatar (since I haven't looked at it) but I've been looking at flights to UK/Europe in Oct/Nov with Lufthansa/SQ etc. The seating is so expensive though that for just regular economy seating it's cheaper for us to get the flexy tickets which includes flexible fares AND regular economy tickets! This is our first time going overseas so it was a massive shock that seat selection was so much! I wonder if it's the same situation for Qatar?

      • Most airlines seem to have multiple ticket tiers for economy:

        1. Super discount, includes F all (sometimes even carry-on only), often no frequent flyer points.
        2. Value fare, no free seat selection, 1 x 25 or 30kg luggage, reduced FF points, more expensive charges for changes/cancellation.
        3. Economy fare, free seat selection, 1 or even 2 piece luggage.
        4. Flexy economy fare, all of the above but less or no charge for changes.

Often #1 is sold out early. 2 vs 3 can be $150 or so which isn't much more than you'd pay for seat selection, so may be the better choice.
