[VIC, NSW, QLD, SA] $40 Electricity Credit in May 2025 for $30 @ Powershop

210

Details screenshot here

Basically you prepaid $30 by 30 Apr for $40 worth of credit for your first bill issued after 1 May 2025.
You may use your federal gov rebate or whatever credit you have to purchase, which means you don't even need to pay an extra cent.
This one is their monthly pack, it's $3 more credit this month than it used to be.

For those who are new to Powershop, consider this bonus credit deal.
Also you may stack with $75 referral credit.
Their sign up bonus may not apply to the cheapest plan available to you, but you may change your plan as soon as you get the bonus, which is pretty much on day 1 or day 2.
If you forget to apply your referral code, don't worry, just give them a call. Their CS is really friendly, waiting time is always short. Your referrer may also need to call them, just a confirmation of details, won't take long.
A OZB member PMed me a few weeks ago for this reason and we both got $75 right after we called the hotline.
With gov rebate + Sign up Credit + Referral Credit + Powerpacks, I have been enjoying free power since last Aug.

After your purchase, the app shows "$30 available from 1May".
Don't worry, you will see the full amount of $40 on your May bill.
It's a bit confusing but it's just how their app is poorly designed.

To me, their rate is not the cheapest on the market, but because I don't use much energy, my bill is 5% cheaper than the other provider with the cheapest rate, after this $10 free credit. (i.e. Powershop becomes my cheapest provider after taking account of this powerpack.)

May Future Pack
Imagine being on top of your bills with a pocketed bonus credit next month for May!
Receive a $10 bonus credit when you pay today for power you’ll use in May.
Simply purchase our Future Powerpack before the end of the month and you are done!

Terms and Conditions
This purchase provides credit off your future bill. The amount purchased will be applied to your bill at the end of the billing period it applies to, and any excess amount will roll over to the next period. The purchase does not lock in rates. Your rates are applicable at the time of your bill, not at the time of purchase. This Powerpack is only available in the Shop until 11:59pm 30 April 2025.

All this effort for a few quid

Less work than a cashback deal, and better tracking too.

This is insulting customers. All energy, gas, telecom, airlines, postal, internet services should be nationalised.

    • +1

Probably still would be if we never had Hawke-Keating or the likes of them take over the Labor party and turn it another tool for the elites.

      • +1

I forgot ports, airports, railways etc. These are strategic sectors. Darwin port was leased to commi chayna under liberal government which was/is more than insulting Australian public.

Did the ALP oppose it though? Whenever there is bipartisan support (or no opposition) for something that thing will happen.

          • @tenpercent: Yes, they did

            https://www.abc.net.au/news/2015-10-13/chinese-company-landb…

NT Oppostion Leader Michael Gunner described the deal as "nothing more than another one off cash grab by the CLP Government, just like the last budget and TIO".

@ezzaf: So they supported privatisation and led the way for 15 years and then backtracked in one territory after most of everything was already sold off. Fat lot of good that did.

This is the regular Future Pack promo. Nothing social here - every month, Powershop customers can click Buy Powerpack and pay less for a part of their bill.

You do have to pay in advance (usually a month or two).

Ampol Energy is nearly 1/2 of Powershop yearly price for me….

    • Yeah same.

The credit with powershop is gone in a week with my usage and their rates

Electricity credits and toll credits make me irrationally angry. We sold all these assets to private firms knowing perfectly well we had no intention to spend to put regulations in place. We knew these companies would find every loophole possible to make killer profits from the day to day lives of Australians. Now our response is to GIVE FREE TAX MONEY to those companies, instead of take them back into government control. This is so (profanity) embarassing. We are so energy rich, yet we pay so much for energy, (profanity) this shit.

We can thank the Labor party for this, even though the policies of privatisation are shared by the Liberal party. Labor used to be opposed to it, but then Hawke-Keating came along and it was on like Donkey Kong… for the bankers and corporations and uber wealthy (here and abroad). Had the ALP remained opposed to privatisation then most of it never would have happened.

As for energy and other mineral resources, we should be taking heavy inspiration from the Saudi Aramco model.

      • but then Hawke-Keating came along and it was on like Donkey Kong

Power generation and distribution was governed by the states, not the commonwealth.

          It still is.

The process of privatisation of Australian public assets began under Hawke-Keating and became Labor policy on their watch.

Had Labor remained opposed to privatisation of publicly built and paid for assets then it is highly unlikely very much would have been privatised. When both parties have the same policy on something then that thing happens unopposed.

          • @tenpercent: liberal-nationals sell out national sectors to China and come here to cry 'commi chayna'. Commi chayna would defend its interests even imposed 150% tariffs against anyone. But Australia will hard time for just 'tenpercent' tariffs. It is vital not to sell national sectors. Interesting coincidence of 10% tariffs and tenpercent username. 10 10

    • But you got windfall gains on property

Making a game of electricity charges.Ridiculous!

Just nationalise electricity and provide 15 cents per KWH rate for every Australian.

    • +1

      Why not free? Go Communism!

      • Well, we are almost there since power distribution (at least in SA) is owned by the Chinese.

        • Since when Chineses was a Communism?

… In theory, everyone works according to their ability and receives according to their needs…

There actually never any communism ever exists at a large scale by that definition.

Dictators just gaslight to maintain the control of their brainwashed peasants.

  • Check their EV day plan which gives free electricity for two hours at lunchtime. The rates are flat and were the cheapest for me. I blast 9 split systems heating or cooling as needed and charge up the car, run the clothes dryer all without paying a cent.

Also make sure you use a referral code from an active account else you'll miss out. Happened to me because people on OzB churn all the time and don't update their referrals

    • I'm not sure they offer that plan anymore. At least not with the flat rate. Hoping to be grandfathered for a long time.

      • They still offer a day EV plan, although it now has peak/offpeak rates (at least for the distribution area I checked, some areas might be flat).

The night EV plan remains flat rate.

Thanks OP. It's normally little effort for a $3 saving, so little effort for a $5 saving is even better!

I've been with Powershop for about 12 months and between the government rebates and the referral credits still haven't paid for any electricity!

    • Someone is paying for it

    • yes but thanks to gov rebates not powershop, if they're cheap for you great but certainly not for many of us

      • What is considered a “good” energy rate? (Supply & Usage)

        • really depends on which state you are in & the energy distributor eg Aud Grid, Energex etc if you give that then can point you in the right direction / gov comparison site etc

  • When account in credit, always purchase it after the bill is paid in the current month.

This deal repeats itself for June.
