I found this deal on Woolworths catalog.

It seems Optus is increasing the prepaid price from 28 April 2025 to $350. So the sim package shows "Activate this sim by 27 April 2025"

I just visited Woolworths to pick one up, and found the sim card's actual expiry date is different. The one i bought expires in June 2025.

Inclusions shown on Woolworths catalog:

  • 260GB data on first recharge
  • Unlimited std talk & text within Australia
  • Roll over up to 200GB
  • 365-day expiry
  • Activate by 27/4/25

The link mod updated seems to be broken. You can find the details of the offer on Woolworths catalogue or screen shot here.

  • 4g or 5g?

    • +2

Not entirely sure, as I am not planning on activating the SIM now. But the back of the packaging says, "SIM is 4G and 5G capable."

    • +1

its both, depends on your phone n reception + coverage

  • -2

Such a short expiry, I would have bought another no way i'd spend $350. I bought one directly from Optus last month on sale and its expiry was 2027

  • so do you activate by 27 April 25 or by the sum expiry date june25

    • +1

      The packaging shows following:

Activate this SIM by 27/4/25. If you activate or recharge after this date, the applicable price and inclusions may have changed. Visit optus.com.au/prepaidplans for current plan info and full T&Cs.

It is unclear if Optus would change the inclusion after 27 April 2025 or not

I am planning on activating the sim after the date.

      Update

Just found this on Optus website. So i guess plan inclusions would not change?

After this change, can I still use my voucher that I purchased before 28 April 2025?
Yes, all vouchers will continue to work until their expiry and will provide you with the old inclusions. If you are having trouble redeeming your voucher contact customer care on 1300 555 002.

      • I am in the same boat and want to recharge after 27 April but trying to get confirmation before committing to purchase.

I tried reaching out customer support, but gave up after 30 mins and then tried to use chat feature. The funny part of chat feature is it forced user to use the app and app needs login i.e. existing customer, so means new sign up users cannot use the chat feature.

      • Thanks for sharing. I just picked one up and the expiry is July 2025. I also plan to activate after 27 April.

The FAQ on Optus spells it out pretty clear but it’s not clear at the back of the packaging if we will need to pay extra after 27 April ($30).

  • Would this stack with the monthly 10% off?

    • +1

      I believe it does

Recharges revert to standard in-market price/ inclusions which will change from 28/4/25: $320 increases to $350, gives you 300GB for first 3 recharges, then 220GB (or as otherwise notified)

So if you activate after 27/4 you get more data.

    • So I can buy the $199 sim now and activate on 1st June when my current amaysim plan expires and it should work?

    • Does this mean if recharging after 27/04, it would cost an extra $30 for the recharge?

  • the sim kit I seen in Woolworths today had sim expiry 24/6/25

  • can this be used in iPad as data sim?

    • +1

      yes

This or the 320GB from vodafone for $199? Both have 5g coverage

    • +1

      Optus.
I've got both in the same handset and find Optus better for speed and coverage across Sydney.

Can this be used to port my number in to or will I need to use the prepaid SIM number?

    • +1

I purchased the SIM thinking that I would surely be able to port my number, but realised i cannot be sure.

Just checked the packaging, no info. Then followed the activation link and found this on their activation FAQ:

Can I transfer my current mobile number when I get a new Optus SIM/eSIM?
Yes! Whether you’re getting a physical SIM or an eSIM, you can choose to keep your current mobile number or get a new one during the activation process. Here’s what you’ll need to ensure:
      * You must be the account holder with your current service provider.
      * Your number is currently active.
You have access to the current mobile number for verification.
      * Check with your current provider about any early termination fees.

So i guess you can use the sim to port my number in.

    • You can Port your number across but your number must still be active when you do…

  • Thanks for the post, I was looking for the deal on this sim plan. Got it sorted.

  • Not bad, but hopefully they'll have the cashback promo soon.

Last year I had this $320 plan that was discounted to $220 by Optus, then a further $100 cashback from Cashreward, so effectively only cost me $120.

    • I have been waiting for that too, however they are upping the prices so I am not sure we will see that good of a deal again. I think this is as good as it gets atm.

Or maybe I am wrong and they will try to sell the old cards at a discount with cashback.

  • This one always gets me can you use woolworths gift cards to pay????. Previously I have been out of luck, as they treat maybe some starter packs/Sims as gift cards (can not pay gift card with gift card)

  • Currently on Optus plan month to moneh, would there be any issues in switching to the 365 day prepaid option using this deal and keeping same number?

    • As this SIM is for New Service Only, my guess is that you would have to port your number out to another telco before porting your number back into Optus with this sim.

  • Can I port from my tangerine to Optus using this sim plan

  • just saying you can do the $230 dollar optus deal on web site get an esim and do topcashback which brings it down to 201 and you get more data and international calling

  • Can this be used as eSim?
