Australian retailers are jokes. Can't imagine how much profit they are making on these prices. This one from NZ is still too much.

  • +1

You get can a PS5 plus a nice tv for this price.

    • +11

As a guy who upgraded to a 9700 xt from a Xbox series X, console gaming offers a much better value for money.
The amount of money you have to pay for exaggerated puddle reflections and shadows is insane.

If i could do FPS games with a gamepad, i wouldnt even look in this direction.

  • +27

Nvidia is mocking consumers. Imagine having a 4080 and wanting to upgrade 2 years later only to have like 10 fps more. And people still fell for it.

      • +3

The 4080 will 100% still have resale value, might not be identical to right now but you'll definitely still be able to sell it for a decent price as it will still be a strong mid-high range card for 1080 or 1440p if you said 4060 I'd agree with you

        • -1

It may but the changeover price will be much higher. Changeover price when we upgraded was negligible.
It's like upgrading your phone every year, costs peanuts to do as the old model has great resale value even though the "gains" may be minimal.

      • +3

L take and you know it.
Gains are less than 15% but even at 15% is very underwhelming. I can’t imagine myself upgrading for such little frame difference.

        • -3

Ok, you do you. Gains are dependant on what games you play, at what resolution and with what overclock/undervolt settings. I can only speak from my ACTUAL usage and not reliant on other people.
Whether the upgrade is good or bad value comes down to the resale value of the old card and the expected further depreciation.
And to be fair with only value in mind, pc gaming is terribly overpriced. If value for money was the only consideration, stock to consoles.
PC gaming is a hobby and depending on how much time you use your hobby and how much you value any gain.
I mean, is value the gains from a 5090 but that price is bad value in my opinion. But to go from a 4080 to a 5080 for a few hundred is not worth battering an eyelid to keep with current gen.

          • @Bruceflix: You just keep the same L take.

            • -3

@nikoris: Whatever. Coming from someone that purchases broken, 2nd hand washing machines. Im sure you are a real winner in life.

              • +3

@Bruceflix: I am actually, just bought my house. I also now have a German made Bosch washing machine.
                Also a 9070 xt.
You paid 2k to Nvidia for like 10fps and checked my post history like it changes the strength of the argument.
Have a great day, hope you upgrade to 6080 for another 5 fps.

                • @nikoris:

hope you upgrade to 6080 for another 5 fps

                  I probably will.

                  You paid 2k to Nvidia

Paid $400 after selling the 4080. Will rinse and repeat on 6000 launch.

                  Also a 9070 xt

Now I understand your hate. Yes it's a good card, almost a great card and better "value for money" than nvidia but it can't compete with a 5080 and struggles behind a 5070ti, still, I'd get a 9070xt over a 5070ti.

                  • @Bruceflix:

Paid $400 after selling the 4080

$400 extra is still is too much for 10 frames. Also, it's literally irrelevant how much you sold the 4080, the paid cost remains the same.

                    Now I understand your hate

What does this even mean? My first ever AMD card, i put my money where my mouth is. I'd gladly buy an Nvidia but they are LITERALLY mocking the consumer with MINIMAL upgrades.

We've ended up paying north of 1-2k for puddles and reflections, I'd rather throw my money in the bin than pay free money to Nvidia for 10 frames.

                    • +1

@nikoris: Looks like the only thing I'm not overpaying for is living rent free in your head.

                      • @Bruceflix: Don't blindly copy what you saw online thinking it's cool. You just replied to me so…… who's living in who's head?
On the other hand, people like this buy 5080s

                        • @nikoris: Whatever, you couldn't let it rest after 24 hours.

I'd gladly buy an Nvidia but they are LITERALLY mocking the consumer with MINIMAL upgrades.

And how much of an upgrade is the 9070xt over the 7900xtx? Nothing! Oh, except for :

                          puddles and reflections

And even then, it can't compete with Nvidia

    • +1

I have a 4080 and no upgrade for me I ain't that stupid

  • Tempted to upgrade from my 2070S. Maybe not quite yet, as soon as I see a 5080 under 2k I'll pull the trigger I reckon.

    • +8

just get a 9070XT, nvidia not worth it at this stage.

      • +1

It's only half for gaming and the other half for training ML models, so amd is out unfortunately, otherwise it'd have one already!

        • +6

You'd better hunt for the 5070 Ti, same VRAM, similar performance. 5070 Ti had dropped under the MSRP, and it will be more likely to have a good price because of competition

          • @Meteor Anarcom: Very dependant on support for FSR4 but I'd guess 5070ti will have better resale value down the track. still the 9070xt is probably a better buy if it's $200 cheaper.

  • +9

I saw the price and angry scrolled so hard I nearly blew the page through the bottom of my phone. What kinda bullshit is this where this has become the norm?

    • +4

Have you seen the price of 5090 in Australia?

      • +1

I wonder who is ripping us off here. Seeing that the prices are the same all across AU it would have to be the distributors. You can readily get them in the EU for €2300 plus VAT/GST so add 10% to that…..

        • It’s nvidia and the distributors.
Nvidia limits supply and, per a pccg post, the distributors have little supply but lots of demand and so are forcing retailers who want cards to bundle them with a heap of dead stock.

          • @stiffnipples: Good point. Nvidia should produce more stock but it's really the distributors then. That practice should be illegal

  • Seems like a decent price considering its from nz. Recently had a great experience with pb tech they had noctua fans way cheaper than any au retailer.

Ordered Monday and they delivered today from NZ which I thought was pre solid.

  • +9

Lovely $900 more than 4080 ATL, while being 8% quicker… Where's the 50 series HODL gang at?

    • +5

      Right here. HODL xD

    • I think a lot of HODL gangs stopped at $11xx 9070 XT but I am still HODL.

  • +9

this is honestly still double the "sane" price, don't let bullshit MSRP anchoring fool you.

  • +6

Yikes this is way more expensive than peak covid prices for the 3000 series..

    • Covid prices were a test to see how much people were willing to pay. Tested again on 4000 series and again now. Already putting money away for 6000 series. It's not going to be pretty.

  • +4

Some might say this is the "best price for this performance". Even if this was true, the relative performance is good but I'd argue this is not a bargain. There never a bad product, only a bad price.

  • Currently running a 3080i (bought for $1100) & 3090 (bought for $1400), and can't see the need to upgrade now.

Current prices are far too high…

  • +2

This is a fake high-end card, the gap between 80 and 90 series is ridiculous, nvidia knows people just pay anything now days.

  • +1

$1700 card sold for $2200, not worth.

Better off getting a 9070xt for $1200 unless you specifically want path tracing or decent frame gen.

  • +5

FU nvidia for not making this 24GB!!

  • -1

I cant believe how much money people these days throw at a video card. You must be either very rich or rather very silly. Nvidia would not get anything from me a total RIP company. AMD are way more a decent company to do business with. I have not had an Intel processor nor any Nvidia graphics for 15 of more years now. I am not any AMD fan boy just someone who buys the best value products just like you would do with any other consumer product out there.

  • So glad I bought a RTX4080 Super for $1500 BF24

RTX5080 prices are insane for like 10% gain

Don't even get me started on RTX5090 pricing
