              • @belongsinforums: Japanese is the only supported language. Only Nintendo accounts with 'Country/Region' set to 'Japan' can be linked.

              • @belongsinforums: Also worth mentioning that atm you have to win a lottery on the Japanese my Nintendo store and have obviously an address and enough time for delivery in order to get the Japanese only Switch 2 right now and probably for a decent while after launch as well

      • Thanks :)

So qn for anyone that has an idea (I do not).
With previous gens the first batch have essentially provided the best opportunity to chip/mod etc. Do we feel this will be the same with the switch 2?

    • +1

Nobody can really tell you how likely it is.
I'm getting a release one just in case, because there's more likely to be hardware or software based exploits.
But I'd say its less likely than on the original switches.

      Time will tell.
Just remember, we really got lucky with the unpatchable hardware based exploit on the switch.

      • I don't remember as I sold mine :( may not have been early enough anyway! (I tell myself…).
Thanks for your insights all the same.

My take is that hackers are gona hack. It will get done eventually, based on the fact that nearly every single console in existence has been able to.

        • Oh for sure.
There is ALWAYS going to be a possible hack. No amount of security can truly stop it forever.
          Just a matter of when.

    • The first hardware (and firmware) version of a console is almost ALWAYS the most hackable. It is the version people get access to first, it's the most widely available version for the first year or two at least and discovered hardware/software exploits don't get patched until later. Overall, the switch 2 should be harder to hack, the whole thing is an on going game of cat and mouse escalation.

Examples from the top of my head…
PS3, other OS, a key feature on the launch version was later removed to prevent exploits, a class action was lau ched against sony for this.
Wii, the first version containing gamecube hardware was able to be hacked fairly similarly to how the gamecube was hacked. And from my out of date knowledge, the Wii optical drive modchips could not be blocked by software updates (may have changed eventually). Later versions of the Wii removed the gamecube hardware and modified the drive chip so it required grinding to access the contact points. Later software hacks became available for the original wii using a Zelda game (Twilight Princess IIRC).
Switch 1, first version hardware/software is the most hackable.
The only way for later versions of consoles to become more hackable is for Nintendo to accidentally add an exploit in a later version, while this is possible, it is highly unlikely.

In summary, if hacking is your goal, buy the first version and never update the software. Never updating can be hard though, if you connect to the internet then it may update without your approval, and with the Wii software updates were added to game discs, the update had to he installed to play the game. The update did nothing to actually help the game run, it was purely about preventing hacking. So then youd need to source game images where the updates had been removed etc etc.

I guess see wikipedia for more about hacks and exploits of various console versions over the years…

If you're really, really flush with cash, buy two consoles and leave one boxed, only charging the battery every now and then.

Pulled the trigger on console only edition. 10% gift card was too hard to resist for day one / first batch possibilities ;)

    • +1

From Harvey you are not getting it day 1

      • +2

We don’t have a guarantee but historically (apart from ps5/xsx) our launches are fine

        • -1

          !RemindMe 3 weeks

          ;-)

          I hope you're correct…

      • FWIW, I picked up my Switch at 9:30am on launch day, HN came through with the goods.

  • Thanks OP, still quite expensive!

  • can we pay with discounted gift cards and be eligible for 10% gift card back?

    • That's what I'm looking at doing as well. Seems like it is possible based on this comment: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/16428374/redir

    • +1

      yup!

      • Any idea if there's going to magically.be more bundles made available today before the gift card offer ends?

      • Secondary question - does the 10% back in giftcards apply to only items over $500 or any spend total over $500? Could I pre-order the Switch 2 console separately and in the same order get Mario Kart World and get 10% of the total price in giftcards? Or would I just get the 10% back from the console purchase?

        • Online chat confirmed that the 10% is for the whole cart value. So I'm going to buy the console and MK World separately in the same transaction. With some discounted gift cards from Macquarie, I should only be about $30 worse off from missing the bundle price but will end up with a physical copy of MK World.

          • +1

@Timbo94: yep, its just off of basket total, not item total

  • Tempted. In general with preorders (Harvey Norman, officeworks, eb games …) would it be possible to cancel along the way for a refund? Only see in the t&c that if an order is completed one can’t cancel. However guessing the preorder is not fulfilled until delivery one could cancel along the way!?

    • +2

I cancelled a EB Games one because I went with the HN. I had to go into the store to do it, but otherwise no drama.

    • yep, you can cancel any time before you collect

  • Mario Kart World bundle is now sold out btw. I ordered one from HN last night for in store pick up, now got email said "Part of your order is currently delayed". Is this mean I will not get it on day one?

    • its not sold out, just a generic backorder message but your preorder is confirmed

      • Nope, definitely sold out. Unavailable to pre-order anymore

        • ahh, we mustve taken it off thinking that we couldnt fulfil all by launch day. We have had pretty much no console only preorders so that’ll have a much likely chance of coming for launch

          • @HardlyNormal: It's back in stock now….annoying as a bought $800 worth of gift cards through Macquarie which is be stuck with if I cancelled and rebought

            • +1

@Timbo94: try contacting the store that is fulfilling the order, i’m sure they will be happy with you swapping products on the invoice!

              • @HardlyNormal: It was a a bit of a saga, but I think that I've managed to do this. Will get refunded the difference on the day of pickup.

  • Oh man, I was going to pull the trigger tonight. Any chance it will be back in stock today, HardlyNormal?

    • If you're not wanting to use the giftcard on another game (that isn't MK World), you could buy the individual console today and then use the voucher on MK and end up effectively only paying $734. Otherwise, do what I did and buy the individual console and MK World separately in the same transaction to end up with an $80 gift card to put towards another game. In both of these scenarios you end up with a physical copy of the game if that matters to you as wel.

      • Thanks for the advice but I was able to purchase the bundle when it came back in stock.

    • +1

not delayed afaik, just a generic backorder message as the item isnt available yet

  • +1

The Switch 2 MK World bundle is now out of stock.

    • Ah bummer. Snooze you loose and I definitely snoozed.

      • +2

It's back in stock now! So annoying as I pulled the trigger on the console only and added MK World separately.

        • +1

Amazing thank you for the reply. Pulled the trigger and bought one.

    • +2

I just ordered one 30mins ago, must be back in stock.

I decided the "sort of" 10% discount was too good to pass up as well.

Feels a bit expensive but over 8 years the switch one barely budged in price ($469.95 launch, to $429.95 now (ignoring short term discounts/sales)), I'm not going to wait 5+ years. Switch 1 gave me so many great gaming experiences and I'm keen to play BOTW and TOTK in 4k, and everything else.

      Ah nostalgia, RIP my wallet.

  • Yeah still in stock. Couldn't resist thanks ozb.

Suppose between now and pick up day we need to decide which extra game to purchase with the 10% voucher. Any suggestions?

    • +1

Haha was thinking of the same. Guess donkey kong got some good vibes from the media playing it. Honestly bought this more to get an early firmware version of the switch 2 for future exploits (hopeful). I fear that my spouse will be more playing with it in the end as I have a steam deck already.

      • I see they have an Xbox X bundle there for 748 with a game, same gift card deal not a bad price. I have an old Xbox one so started it up this morning then of course needed updating (took ages) then needed passwords etc, tons of other updates. Then some installed games they wanted me to pay for them some werenow incompatible .reminded me I hate Microsoft.
However graphics on this new switch 2 look comparable and seems more like fun overall I guess.

      • +1

I was thinking either Bananza, or carrying case and charging grip.

I already bought a pro controller and the camera, should be fun to mess around with in Mario Party etc.

  • Feels like too much to pay just for a slightly bigger screen and voice chat.

    • +2

Yeah though the same. But then I saw what the original switch achieved over almost a decade now with its limited hardware capability already at launch. I have read and watched a few hands on reviews now from reputable sites like The Verge and the consensus was very positive (except the price). Even with the price though most were saying that pre-orders should be placed as it is that good.

    • +4

I'm more sold on Switch 2 than I ever was with Switch 1. So much extra potential with this one. This is the first console I've ever pre-ordered.

      • I thought they were nuts when I first heard about the concept for the switch, once I saw BOTW I was sold!

      • Agree that Switch 1 was a nice, but Switch 2 looks more refined and modern

    • I'm not going to go listing all the differences but it would be clear to everyone that the Switch 2 is more than just a bigger screen and voice chat.

Agree it is expensive and a bit overpriced for what you get, however it is a massive step up from the switch 1 which was one of the most successful consoles ever released. This console has absolutely massive potential and already has incredibly strong industry backing, Nintendo may finally break their alternating success/failure curse of console launches. Or, they have priced themselves out of the market and be gearing up for a financially disastrous failure, time will tell.

    679 at Costco

    • +1

That's without the Mario game and no 10% voucher. This deal is better.

      • +2

Pro - And no membership required for HN either.

Con - But, it is HN.

        • There's a pro version already 🙄.

  • Console bundle still in stock at HN but the 10% gift card event is over now so pricing more or less similar to other retailers now.

  • +4

Today's second PS5 price increase makes me feel even better about locking in this pre-order. Might be the cheapest the Switch 2 ever is lol

    • This was my exact thought too

  • +1

Does anyone know when will the gift cards be issued?

    • +1

Wondering the same thing. They should send them within 5 days of purchase. Thats what I expected, but still nothing.

      • +1

Maybe for preorders it is different. Probably they will be issued around release time. Well, this is my guess anyway.

        • I believe you get it a few hours after you actually get the console.

  • i cancelled this order and went with ebay deal, $40, and 5% gift cards. made it down by $87, not by much so this is a good deal but I also don't need to buy another game

  • This deal is back (the 10% back in HN gift card) - ends 23/5

  • +1

Are we right to assume these will be available to pick up on Thursday? I preordered at the time of this deal being posted. Really hoping my store has it ready on release.

    • +1

I did a click n collect for Pokemon Violet at HN. The comms up to release were non-existent after the order. I was able to pick it up as soon as the store opened.

      • +1

        Good to know. Thankyou.

      • Was waiting for some sort of email as well if there is something to pick up tomorrow. So guess I will just zoom by in the morning and try to pick one up with the order confirmation on my phone…

        • +1

That’s what I would do. I remember getting the ready to collect and collected SMS as I was getting in my car.
I think their system relies on an in store person manually processing the order when stock the arrives. Unsurprising given they’re still using that archaic DOS looking UI

  • Went to my local Harvey Norman at 9:30am (upon opening). No Switch 2's in sight.

Staff casually mentioned they were meant to arrive on Monday but due to carrier issues and intermediary delivery partners, it was rescheduled to next Friday (ie over a week later than launch). What a joke.

Manager said he's looking into it to see what he can do.

Serves me right for falling for their 10% gift card promotion.

    • I followed up at 1pm when hadn't heard back from manager. He's "stepped out".

      • relax, wait or cancel the order and find a better sale elsewhere you have at least time to find a better deal. but hopefully they fix this error. that sucks

        • Easy to say but planned some time off work + flying overseas on the weekend so more just frustrated that I went with HN and cancelled my EB preorder.

          • +1

@jace88: Finally spoke to the manager and he said it's not HN's fault, it's the logistics company which didn't deliver it since it's at the depot. I gave them a very clear message that their outsourcing to a third party doesn't mean it's not their fault. Hoping it'll come tomorrow.

  • +1

Called my store this morning at 9.30am as I didn’t get an email or sms for pickup and they said they are waiting for the pallet of stock to come through. Sounds like it might arrive anytime between today or sometime next Friday!

  • +3

Thanks for the updates. Well that's pathetic, was wondering why I haven't received the pickup ready email.

The whole reason for making a pre-order and paying 2 months ahead, is to have it on the day obviously.

  • +1

Went in store, no physical consoles have arrived yet. So pathetic. Does serve me right for ever giving this joke of a business my money again.

Cancelling the pre order as we speak, but waiting to do so on chat, yet again…

  • +2

Sounds like we were all suckers for falling for the 10% back in gift cards. Last time I give Harvey Norman my money. Would cancel order if I hadn't used discounted Gift Cards to pay for it. No way do I want to get stuck with those

    • +1

https://www.harveynorman.com.au/nintendo-switch-2-mario-kart… It is showing in stock at some stores (including where I set my preorder to be picked up from) so maybe I'll get lucky when I go in after work? No notification or anything from them and I'm expecting dramas to make sure I get the 10% back in gift cards

    • Realised this, forgotten I had done so. Let the waiting game begin…

  • +3

Just got an email confirmation for pick up. Sounds like I was lucky with my store.

    • +1

      Got my text message too!

  • So what’s stores do and do not have them? I’m in the ACT and haven’t received a text yet sadly.

    • Check the website to see. You should be able to select your store and see if they have stock

  • RIP called the Mornington store and they had no idea when they'd be in.

  • +2

Picked up mine from HN Moore Park, gift card arrived 20mins after.

  • Got an email this morning from Nunawading to say my pickup is ready - will head there this arvo. Am I right in thinking the 10% voucher will arrive some time via email?

  • +1

Called Broadway Sydney store, they said they haven’t got the stock, maybe will come in on Friday or Monday. This sucks!

  • +1

Just picked up from North Ryde at 4.34pm and received the gift card at 4.45pm. Hang in there guys. The store didn’t have any accessories or switch 2 games, saying it’s like those will only come through in the next week or so.

  • +3

I posted this to the other Harvey thread also, hopeless Broadway experience. No pallet until possibly next week, the manager had stepped out etc etc " I just work here" nonsense from staff who just suggested I wait and that "everywheres shipments aren't coming , JB , eb , so you will be better keeping your queue position with us". What BS. Ended up calling later and getting the manager to transfer the order ID to Moore Park which had 2 left. Picked up there and got the gift card thankfully. I have no idea why Broadway thought not informing pre-order customers was OK at all!!

    • +3

It’s 7pm now. I tried same thing as you at lunchtime to move order from broadway to Moore park but for some reason the order hasn’t redirected so when I went to Moore park they couldn’t release the stock.

Broadway Harvey Norman are a bunch of clowns. Can’t get anything right.

      • Ouch that's really bad. The manager at Broadway over the phone said "yes i will do this" (the transfer), and then HUNG UP immediately, so i waited hoping it would work properly… got an auto email about 30 mins later, saying the "order was delayed" which i figured indicated it had been transferred, and then a bit later Moore Park sent out the 'ready for collection' greenlight. The only way this came about is because I called Moore Park first and spoke to the gentleman there who said he would vigilantly check his inbox for my particular store transfer, otherwise it would be lost in their system until someone checks it.

The way this was handled is insane, I was doing legwork chatting to online chat + Moore Park whilst Broadway took their siesta. Just matter-of-fact "it isn't here, it won't be until maybe next week" as if nothing had been screwed up or mismanaged.

        • +1

Smarter than me. I went in person to Moore park after speaking with broadway manager around 2pm who confirmed he had redirected it. Such a fail.

I’m still switch less but hoping it’s resolved tomorrow. The 10% gift card promo isn’t worth it for me if I lose my gst refund (and entertainment for a 20+ hour flight) when travelling overseas this weekend :(

    • +1

They have such a lack of understanding of a pre order consumer, especially a gamer. And why we bother to pre order anything. It ends up coming across as disdain for the customer.

  • +1

@HardlyNormal any update for us? You were assuring people that we will get it on the release day. Will they be in at stores tomorrow?

  • I ordered from fortitude valley. The courier said he showed up and no one was there to take delivery so he went home, apparently they are being delivered tomorrow morning. Store staff said they checked the monitors and no truck arrived. StarTrack of course, I know who I believe.
