why does it not have 2 2.5gb ports tho :(

    • If it supports link aggregation this would be less of an issue. More importantly, can the 2.5GB port be used LAN side.

      • +1

        It says 1× 2.5Gbps WAN/LAN

        • +2

If you live in a property that will support the upcoming NBN 2Gbps speeds coming in September, then this could be a potential bottleneck..

          • +6

@Snoots: Wonderful that this is in the pipework and I'm still on copper fttn with no upgrade in sight. Simply amazing.

            • @Pantaloon: ACT has 96,000 homes to be upgraded from FTTN to FTTP between 2026-2030.

          • +14

@Snoots: If someone can afford NBN2000 they should be about to afford a better router 😂

            • @kfcfatfat: Not quite, nbn2000 is replacing nbn 1000. So you get more speed for free. 1000mbit isn't that expensive ($90 ish on some providers compared to 80 for 100mbit)

              • +4

                @aong152: No it isn't.

1000/100 replaces the 1000/50 speed tier.
2000/200 and 2000/500 are new FTTP speed tiers.
2000/100 is a new HFC speed tier.

      • Even if it has LA wouldn't that mean the NTD would also have to support LA?

  • Sorry super silly question but would anyone know what is the range of the WIFI on this? Trying to see if my garage would be in range (15m line of sight but with two fibro walls in between).

    • +2

Probably not much different to whatever you have now - the main benefit in newer standards improve speeds at short distances.

    • Grab a RE705x to go with it. Plug it in the garage, its a mesh wifi extender.

  • Compatible with Mesh?

  • +1

I have an even sillier amateur question. Can this be added to my existing M5 mesh?

    • +4

      @S2, @shake No the TP-Link Archer won't create a mesh Wi-Fi network with the TP-Link Deco.

Option 1: Replace the Deco M5 with a newer mesh setup like the Deco BE25 2-pack or 3-pack.
Option 2: Use one of the Deco BE25 as your router and add another one or two Deco BE25. Add the extra Deco M5 to the mesh Wi-Fi network.

Deco BE25 is just an example. You can swap the Deco BE25 for any of the Deco's.

I have an even more sillier question,

Can this be powered directly from solar?

    • It can if you have enough money to make it happen

    • +1

With a panel to regulator to battery to inverter. Yes.
If you mean solar panel with nothing in between. No.

  • +8

I have an even siller question. Does Darth Vader have a throne room inside?

    • +4

It can if you manage to get it powered directly from solar

      • +3

The ability to gain power from the sun is insignificant next to the power of the Force.

    • +1

No, this is too small for Darth Vader. Maybe for ants, yes, but not for an evil human-sized cyborg.

  • Is there any reason not to get this? I've heard so many ozbargainers say tp link is to be avoided, but it's 6E, tri band, $164 so I want the horror stories of uptime and bad firmware to be untrue

    • +1

I upgraded from a TP-Link ax20 which served me well for the past 4 years. I have to upgrade because kids got into gaming and ping was bad on the AX20 when we have streaming at the same time. So far I have no complaints from the kids after the upgrade.

      • For gaming, assuming they are using a LAN cable make sure that you've got cakeqos enabled. Not all routers have it. I'm building my own router in preparation for the 2gbit plans :)

    • Not WIFI 7, but cheap for a router that has 6Ghz support. If you live in a unit with crap 5Ghz reception and you have a laptop or mobile that supports 6Ghz then it is a good deal..

    • Just got this yesterday from Amazon. It's pretty amazing coming from the Telstra smart gen 2 (wifi 5).

Jumped from 350mbps to 900 over wifi.

    • I had a ex-colleague tell me that fish isn't good for you because theres heavy metals in the deep seas. Apparantly everybody should know as its on some crackpot news that she reads

    • +3

      Tell me more.
Hold on. Just let me grab my tin foil hat

  • -2

Not a fan of new brands but damn this design looks fantastic! Its got that Netgear look

    • +2

TP-Link isn't a new brand. They have been around since the '90s.

    • +1

I have been using tp link since the ADSL days with voip. Never missed a bit. On the other hand, brands like Billion, Netcomm and Huawei have let me down multiple times….

      • Same here

      • Yeah Netcomm always had the ugliest hardware. You take a look and just didnt want to buy anymore no matter what the price. I'm not surprised they aren't seen around much anymore

        • +1

The owners of NetComm have filed for bankruptcy.

  • Noob question: if my PC is connected via ethernet is there much advantage in upgrading the router - e.g. will this improve input latency? For reference, my current router is the TP-Link AX23

    • No.

    • Assuming you don't have buffer bloat, lan is like sub 0.2ms. if you get buffer bloat then sad times - time for a router that has cake qos

  • +2

I have an even morer sillier question.

This is a tent right and for how many people?

    • I have a sillier answer.

      It is a TARDIS.

  • Very happy with this. Got it the day before this deal was posted.

Amazon gave $15 credit through chat.

Not sure what the negative reviews are for.

    • Why did Amazon give you the credit?

      • Customer experience and satisfaction with prices

  • sold out, any good deal for ASUS or ROG routers?

  • Will something like this mesh with tp link omada ceiling access points?

  • +2

    I thought this was a PS6

  • If you join their premier elite program, brings it down to $160.50

  • I’m wondering if this one better than my mesh 2 x telstra smart gen 2? My house is 220m2 and I need one smart gen 2 in garage next to nbn box and other one in living room to covered my house with front and back yard wifi camera. Still working well but I can see delay sometimes and mesh dropped when you’re moving (rare)

    • 2 x telstra smart gen 2? My house is 220m2 and I need one smart gen 2, they are mesh?

      • Yes you can mesh them and the satellites will be recognised as telstra boost.

  • pretty sure this model has overheating problems, and problems in general.

Recommend looking up some info about it esp if you plan to stream locally through it

    • +2

Should be fine if you keep the tent flaps open during summer.

    • It's fine, it has been my main router replacing my 5+ years old RT-AX92U (also a tri-band)
Its design is modern where heat can easily be dissipated, it never gets hot to the touch, actually running pretty cool for my 1Gbps NBN connection with 32+ devices concurrent. There are a couple down time, but it actually comes from NBN outage itself. That's all about it, pretty reliable to be honest. The range is 99% of RT-AX92U with with a better and modern wifi technology.

Is there a big difference between this and TP-Link AX80? https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B0BRKFJXTT/ref=ewc_pr_i…

Tossing up between the two as they are around the same price. Anyone got advice on which one would be better for an average home that streams, ipads, laptops etc.

    • +1

Had the same question! I actually brought the post's one from Amazon and its not been working. Trying to fix it with my network Vodaphone.

  • I've pulled the trigger on the AX80, will see how it goes

  • $168.26 on ebay with Ebay Plus: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/296687919289?_skw=TP-Link+Archer….

Went with this option as it is now pre-order on Centrecom and only $2.40 more expensive when considering transaction fees.

  • Ordered from Centrecom stock eta 18/4. No stock even when you try and pre order. Only worked when I chose online instead of click and collect. We have an old ISP supplied Wifi 5 router that JUST reached to the corners of our pretty big house somehow, but it's starting to die and I don't want to shell out for a Wifi 7 mesh yet… This is a good stopgap on the cheap…
