Collins Foods Announces Plan to Exit Taco Bell Business

Taco Bell – Business Exit

Collins Foods has decided to exit its Taco Bell business. Discussions are currently underway with Taco Bell International (TBI) regarding a potential transition of the business to new ownership. Collins Foods intends to complete the transition within the next 12 months, subject to formal terms being agreed.

A further update will be provided, including estimated exit costs, as matters progress. If a new operator cannot be identified and/or an agreement cannot be reached, other exit options will be explored.

Wonder if they'll find anyone to take it over or it'll be the end of Taco Bell in Australia.

    Never seen any around.

I forget, is this the 3rd or 4th time TB has left the building?

Wasn't Yum foods the 'importer' of TB in the 'oughts? Maybe they can take it again?

    oh no…

the end of Taco Bell in Australia.

Didn't even notice they existed in Australia beyond American content on TV screens.

    • Yeah, none in Adelaide AFAIK, and I never saw one on multiple trips to Melbourne either. Must be a Sydney only thing.

Anyway, they won't be missed. American businesses are on the nose at the moment and few people will be sad to see one go.

Yes I know, it's a local franchise and only paying Americans for the branding and licensing, but your average consumer doesn't go into the minutiae of international corporate structures when choosing somewhere to eat fast food.

        KFC seems very popular today

      • Not only a Sydney thing. They had stores in Bathurst and Orange - both now closed. Orange store never seemed busy when I drove past.

      • Quite a few in Qld as well.
I have one 5 mins from my house, but other than once after it first opened, I havent been there since. 🤷‍♂️

Looks like the Bell has tolled.
Tacos couldn’t shell out enough profit.
Nacho average success story — it’s gone.
They couldn’t wrap it up, so they’re folding.

Tried this slop once and once only. No taste and greasy. Old el paso taco kit from Coles tastes at least 10 times better. Not sure who their target audience is.

  • down my way theres a 80% built KFC and CarlJrs which have been abandoned for months

I like Taco Bell in other countries. I tried it once here and had to ask for a refund for the cold inedible mess they served us. Never been back. Shame really as for fast food junk in other places they are ok.

Same with Carls Jr, a good burger ruined by Australians paying 14 year olds to serve inedible crap to people who just take it up the arse rather than demand better.

Well, when they're competing with local chains like GYG and Zambrero, it doesn't surprise me.

    • +5

Zambreo also needs to go, thats worst than TB

      • Agreed, most times I've eaten there, the weird sauces they put on have been off, but anyway, it's probably just me. GYG is good, though.

        • @HamBoi69 Interesting, I think Zambrero nachos are better value and quality than GYG nachos. Why the hate? @Wiadro

      • yep nothing worse than pretentious mexican themed 'fast' food
Taco Bell is unapologetic texmex fast food slop, for that you have to respect it

      • No way - I much prefer it to GYG because of the choice and more flavour in their offerings.

      No love for Salsas?

  • gyg is the best fast food chain right now. change my mind.

    • +5

      no

    • +11

      gyg is overpriced bland food

      • +3

gyg is the only work lunch takeout that I won't participate in. I've never enjoyed a meal from there.

    • +3

GYG used to be alright, now it's just way too expensive for what it is.

      • Agree. Portions shrank too, worsening the situation. The Cali item variants are elite but I just can’t shell out that much for that small a portion.

    • Unpopular Opinion.. Salsas

I guess me making my own crunch wraps at home take a toll to someone else.

When is Taco Bell coming to Australia ?

  • Egads….
    Yoiks….

  • +1

    Adios.

  • +1

    It's a good thing

The food is so bad always cold and tasteless and doesn't even live up to the name

    Hardly any taco options

    Will not be missed

  • +1

    Always wanted to try it.

Never been close to one when I want to eat it.

I do go to GYG quite frequently.

  • +1

Turn them into Quick Gerry's overprised cables and mobiles?

  • I only go to Taco Bell for a quick cheap bite. A few Cheesy Scrolls and some Chips are the only things I enjoy from them.

  • The cheap food business model doesn't work in Australia, because overheads are a far bigger proportion of costs.
I love taco bell in US, but a big part of the appeal is I can order so much and pay so little.

Eating out will always be expensive in Australia, so trying to go cheap is just going to result in no customers.

  • In Ipswich Queensland they replaced Sizzler with Taco bell. Tried it once. Its slop. Never again. Can't understand how anyone could think this is comparable to Sizzler.

    • +1

It's an insult to Sizzler to put Taco Bell in the same sentence

Taco Bell is dog shit in Australia but pretty good overseas

  • there is a Taco Bell australia? can't say I have ever seen one, not that I would ever go to one again after trying once in San Diego.

    • probably go Chipotle instead

      • Chipotle is some bomb-ass shit, nothing in AU has ever compared for fast-casual Tex-Mex.

        • I mean 10+ years ago they only had Montezumas which everything tasted the same just burnt cheese on enchiladas and burritos you can't even tell them apart

Guzman I guess is a good addition and food is "seem more authentic" not sure if it is anything close to what they eat in Mexico but they are spreading like a disease must be making a fortune on franchise fees

Zambrero is kinda crap too I never see anyone going in and taste too healthy

          • @Poor Ass: Fast Mexican is essentially Tex-Mex which is americanised mexican. Real Mexican cuisine is only really found in restaurants in Australia and maybe a few isolated authentic taqueria-type joints, but the last one I knew of in Perth closed ages ago. Sad when the plates be amazing.

  • Says they're struggling but the main issue is lack of location. Just not convenient to get to.

  • I'd try the Crunchwrap Supreme, I see a lot of memes about it, it has a funny name, and I bet it's not bad as far as junk food goes.

  • Gee I wonder why they are struggling, who knew location was key… Opening stores out in the middle of nowhere is not a good business strategy.

    • it's not the location most are actually situated quite well because they don't open them up where they see no value that is why you don't see Maccas in some rural towns

the issue is Taco Bell food is dog shit in Aus

  • TB is supposed to be cheap tex mex. But when it came to Australia, it became expensive which is exactly not the reason why people eat TB.

    • price aside the food is shit

      • When the food is cheap and shit. Some (drunk) people can still accept it. When it is expensive and shit, no one buys.

        • some reason they are all scattered in the suburbs so miss most of the drunkards concentrated in the city

  • I do wonder if any of their Execs have tried to use their own Taco Bell app. You can't even browse their menu to get an idea of prices. To order you just get redirected to menulog/doordash/ubereats. Am I missing something?

If they are this incompetent, they need to go.

    • On the plus side, nobody in store knows how to use the app either, if you make an order then tell them you want to cash in points they'll be lost and eventually the manager will come over and just comp the item not spending the points.

This happened like 5-6 times before quality dropped off a cliff at my local.

  • I've tried it a couple of times. It isn't terrible but not that great either - certainly overpriced for what you get. GYG and Zambrero are not much better.. Mexican food is not my favourite fast food but most of what you get outside of North America is often very average.

    • Unless you are south of the US border most of what you get INSIDE North America is even worse. Tex-Mex is the US taking Mexican food, adding a load of sugar and removing all the flavour.

  • LOL there's one under construction in Bonnyrigg. Wonder what will happen with that one.

  • White ppl: wow its so authentic!

  • Taco Bell AUS menu is completely different to Taco Bell USA.

TACO Bell AUS offerings are bland and bad compared to Taco Bell USA. If the AUS recipies are sooo how can you even survive.
