  • Anyone one know what is on the device receipt for TRS reasons?

    • $847.00, having been paid by gift card so will work for your TRS stuff

  • +4

So just to confirm the saving is $240.92? And if you compare with outright purchase with 10% discounted GC or 20x, it's an effective saving of $160?

  • +4

    Help, I'm new to this.
So is the Ozbargainer method just these steps?
    1. Get the phone and sign up to the mobile plan
    2. Cancel the plan immediately from Telstra
    3. Pay cancellation fee of $550

    • -5

I think they have changed the T&Cs on this and you may need to pay the whole amount.

Voucher for Everyday ($79) is $550 and payback in case of cancellation is $550.

    • +1

May be wait for better Samsung S25 or plus deal

      • +1

You might get a deal when Pixel 10 and iPhone 17 comes out.
But generally best deals for Samsung are pre-order or when they just released. You can check by looking at all the OB deals history for S25 since Jan

Im waiting until S26 to then nab a s25 bargain

  • +3

Can anyone confirm? My reading of the terms and conditions is that you get a $800 voucher to pay for the phone, but if you cancel you'd have to pay back 23/24 of the $800, so it doesn't work out any cheaper.

    • +6

      It's to a maximum of $550.

      See Maximum Voucher Repayment Fee

      https://www.telstra.com.au/help/critical-information-summari…

    • +1

Read the $0 Pixel 9a offer under the Pixel 9a. $800 is a different offer.

    • Far less clear in these terms referenced in the actual offer:
      https://www.telstra.com.au/jbhifi-mobile-terms

It only refers to the voucher, and the voucher is the phone, so I'd say the "Voucher Repayment Fee" is the value of the phone.

      • +8

This has been discussed at least a million times whenever any such deal pops up.
I have benefitted from similar deals 7-8 times (more recently for Samsung S25 deal) and every time people questioned what would be the Voucher Repayment Fee and every time it was whats included in the CIS when you sign up. JB reps tell you its equal to the value or discount you get on the phone, but every time I was only charged whats mentioned in the Telstra CIS I received when I signed up.
        What OP mentioned is correct.

Anyone still in doubt can read through the comments on below S25 deal:

        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/890073

        • Pardon my ignorance, does this mean you just pay the early cancellation fee (~$550) + first month for the handset outright?

          • +1

@gooston: Yes, thats correct. And some people were also able to get a refund of the first month fee by requesting the cancellation via Telstra chat

            • -1

@OZBsince2018: How often do these kinda deals come along? I need a new phone but ~$600 is just outta my budget this month.

              Thank you by the way!

            • @OZBsince2018: So once you get the sim card do you need to just cancel via chat to telstra and can get first month fee refunded? How do you pay the cancellation fee though., will they just charge the card on file?

              • +1

@emboon: You can cancel via chat on Telstra chat or via JB Hifi Mobile App.
For cancellation fee, an invoice is sent by Telstra via email with a due date, on which it is automatically debited to your card used at the time of sign up.

      • +3

The Google Pixel 9a 128GB (referred to as the “JB Hi-Fi Voucher” in the Telstra Terms and Conditions available at https://www.telstra.com.au/jbhifi-mobile-terms) replaces the dollar value of the Voucher in the Critical Information Summary and will be available to you instore after connection approval by Telstra. If you cancel or move to a lower cost/different plan then you must pay a Voucher Repayment Fee to Telstra pro-rated against the remaining months of your plan’s minimum term.

It doesn't say there is any modification to Maximum Voucher Repayment Fee line in the CIS, just to the Voucher

I agree it's not exactly abundantly clear, but that is how I read it.

  • Can anyone confirm whether the $700 gift card sign up bonus also comes with this deal?

    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/pages/upfront-mobile-plans

    • +3

Lolllzzzz No. Its either $700 GC or this deal.

    • +1

Also can confirm it does not stack, it's one or the other. I tried this yesterday

    • +2

You're looking for one of the following which are larger:

      • Pixel 9 Pro XL
      • Pixel 8 Pro
      • Pixel 7 Pro
      • Pixel 6 Pro
      • -3

Mate, thank you and yeah I did know. However, that screen shize is tiny. My Nokia 1610 had a bigger screen.

        • Get a Nokia C30 if you want a huge screen.

I was personally hoping for a sub 6 inch diagonal for this phone with the same specs, but I guess beggars can't be choosers.

    • +1

I didn't know that we had smart phones back in 1995.

      • -2

        You weren't born yet… That's why…

  • i just got this one and a pleasant surprise was that you get an additional $100 gift card on top of whats mentioned in the original post.

    • +1

$100 from where? JB gift card?

    • I can confirm that a $100 Jb Hifi gift card comes with the deal

    • I also got this today. I think i noticed another deal on the screen starting tomorrow which I think was $0 for the 256GB model, that would explain the gift card sweetener for this one. So you can decide if you'd rather $100 gift card or more storage…

      • 256GB deal shows $850 off

        • +1

          Currenty 256GB is $997.
So using the above mentioned method, it will be $997-$850+$606.08=$753.08

          Is my understanding correct?

  • Yes

  • this or the edge 50 pro posted not to long ago around similar price? Coming from edge 20 fusion (screen cracked and got a big purple line running vertically on one side, still usable though)

    • I've got the exact same phone as you, also in dire need of an upgrade (I need to charge like 3x a day now). I'm a complete noob with these deals so I'm trying to find a 'for Dummies' explanation lol

      • from what i gather, you sign up for the plan lay for one month then leave contract through telstra paying the fee to do so which is maxes out at 550.

        • Geez that's bloody alright.

Wonder if this deal will be around next pay lmao

    • +2

Edge 50 Pro is much cheaper at $498. It depends on your requirements.

      Pixel 9a:

      • Faster flagship Tensor G4 processor
      • 7 years of updates vs 3 years remaining on the Motorola
      • Pixel cameras are very good. Motorola cameras are average.
      • Longer battery life

      Edge 50 Pro:

      • Much larger 6.7" screen vs 6.3" 9a
      • Telephoto camera lens
      • Very fast charging. 80W wired, 50W wireless vs 23W and 7.5W 9a

      @gooston

  • Does it work with new numbers, or am I forced to port my existing one? Genuine security concerns around porting

    • +1

      It works with new numbers.

Available to port-in mobile services and new Telstra mobile service customers only.

      • +3

        Thanks for your answer mate.

        Is it as simple as:
1.go to jb and get a new number with the telstra plan
2 talk to telstra and cancel - pay early termination fee
        3. swap sim cards
        4. profit

        • That's what other OzBargainers in the past have done. You buy the phone with the plan. There is no profit.

          • +1

@shxhshzhz: the 'profit' was meant as a joke, not a good one clearly.

If I understand the deal correctly, the benefit lies in the early termination fee being $606.08, while you end up with a brand new phone.

            Thanks!

            • @Mulumulu:

If I understand the deal correctly, the benefit lies in the early termination fee being $606.08, while you end up with a brand new phone.

Yes. Early termination plus the first month of the plan = $606.08.

          • +5

            @shxhshzhz: He's meme'ing with the profit
            https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/profit

  • Does it work with iphone 6e?

    • If you mean the iPhone 16e, yes - since it’s a $800 off any phone

  • this deal way better at $349 for Pixel 8a when it first came out if it is a similar comparison

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/844795

  • Picked up the 9a today. Didn't come with extra $100 gift like it did for some other Ozbargainers.
Has anyone kept the gift card/voucher and paid with 28 Degrees card?

  • +1

went into jb and the 100$ gift card bonus was only for yesterday 16/4/25

    • explains it then, no gift card for me either, was planning on using it for the case and a screen protector, guess im stuck with something cheap off amazon.

  • +1

For the cancellation and ETC, they would not budge on the cost (23/24 months * $550), but they did offer to refund first month of $79! I was transferred to the "backend" (financial hardship team?). TBH I was just trying to push my luck as I was in the chat anyway to cancel. Thinking nothing was possible, so it was a nice surprise.
    Others should try
    So for me, $526 + 79 - 79 = $526 for cost of phone

    • Hi, may I know how you got transferred to backend team and got refunded first month? What did you have to say in chat?

      • Via chat. I lowballed them and said I'd pay $200 early termination charge, and they asked if I was having financial hardship. I said no, I just would like a lower charge, then they transferred me

        • Did you have to cancel the same day you activated the service?

  • I saw an offer of $1700 or $1800 off when buying the Pixel 9 Pro with a $99 plan while I was purchasing my iPhone 2 hours ago. I didn't find this online, but for Pixel fans, it might be worth checking out this deal in the store. I noticed it on a staff member's desktop when they opened the page for JB Hi-Fi mobile plans.

    • +1

Saw this $0 for Pixel 9 Pro 128gb in store as well so $766+99= $865.66 for the Pixel 9 Pro 128gb. 256gb and 512gb not eligible. It's listed same online, unless your store had a different deal

  • Unless you’re able to have the first month’s $79 refunded, may as well use the 150GB before cancelling.

  • Has anyone had success with stacking a phone trade in on top? JB page lists $150 + phone value (sweet f all) credit at point of sale.

    • +1

It won't work because the price of the phone is $0.

      • Ah, got it. No card or nothing, fair.

      • You can get the 256gb version and then it's $850 off
