  • I don’t have a drone
Is this the fomo buy to get?

    • Probs would be good to start with a mini 3 pro, or a mini 4 pro with the screen controller

      • i thought this one comes with the screen controller? oh well

        • Nah, worth it thou

  • air 3 vs mini 4 pro, which one is better?

    • +1

      Air 3

    • Air 3 will be more of a hassle to fly in many overseas destinations due to weight restrictions.

    • +1

Air = more performance (bigger battery, wind resistance, better camera etc.)
Mini = more convinent (smaller, lighter, doesn't require a licence to operate in most countries including aus)

      • You mean I need a licence to fly this air 3?

        • +1

Depends on what you do with it, but in aus generally no, you don't need one if you're flying for fun. Here the difference between Mini and Air is whether you are allowed to take off at all if you're <5.5 km from an airport. Check CASA website before making a decision.

          • @hcl: Sounds like there are more restrictions on the larger/heavier drone. Not sure if owning a licence can bypass those restrictions.

            • +1

@bcYield: Not really if you're flying for fun. Commercial activities can get permits with proper licence etc

  • What's the benefits of having the RC-2 instead of RC-N2? Yeah it has a screen but you use your phone as a screen anyway?

    • +1

I have a built in screen model. For me just so much less hassle and bigger display.

      • Can you not use your phone screen?

        • yes but built in so much better experience, no cables, trying to squeeze phone in etc. I was dubious about the value of a built in screen until I got one.

      • +1

I had heard if you want to stream 1080P on screen model result is low quality, but the screenless controller handles it perfectly. Have you tried streaming with screen controller model?

    • +1

The screen won't dim from getting to warm unlike a smart phone on a hot day with your brightness up

PSA for everyone considering this deal, for the sake of not having (profanity) drones everywhere (profanity) our lives up: that drone is over 250 gram so you can't fly it within 5.5km from an airport, or over people or near people or at night or over 120m or near fires or disaster areas, not even allowed to use FPV or screen to fly, only direct line of sight

    • +1

+1 although you can fly within 5.5km of Non-Controlled Airport so long as there are no present aircraft movements (takeoff, landing, or taxiing).

    • +12

The only difference between this drone and one under 250g in the rules is that it can't be flown within 5.5km of an airport.
Every other rule is the same as a drone under 250g, which they (drones under 250g) also can't be flown over or near people or at night or over 120m and direct line of sight only and not allowed to be flown with FPV goggles outside unless you are a member of a model aircraft that has approval to fly FPV as per the CASA website.

    • -1

As in legally can't fly at night or the drone won't actually technically fly?

      • Legally

      • Pretty sure DJI software actually prevents you from violating restrictions also. So it wont take off if you’re in an out of bounds area etc

  • Max Flight Distance:32 km

That's enough to make a delivery over the suburb. 1% cashback lol

How long is the charging time? I might not need to spend on extra expensive batteries.

    • +1

      $200 odd a battery

  • Just placed my order! It's a no-brainer at $789 with the RC-N2.
    Considering DJI Care for 1 year is $169 + $559 for Flyaway coverage — that’s $728 total.
That makes the RC-N2 effectively only $61.

At this price, I wouldn’t even bother with DJI Care. If you’re worried about crashes, just buy a second one as a backup!

    • Been thinking of it. Flip combo also with RC-N2 but 3x batteries that can last days and only is $200 more (potentially same price in the upcoming sale). How is the tech side diff considering it 2yo air 3 vs the newly released flip.

  • +2

DJI Flip: A Love & Hate Relationship

The DJI Flip is a controversial drone. Apart from the gesture control feature, I honestly struggle to see any real benefits.

    Poor wind resistance

    Low camera quality

    Limited manual control
It feels more like a gimmick than a reliable drone for serious users.

    Battery Packs: Two Is Enough

I’ve bought two Fly More Combos — one for the Mini 2 and another for the Mini 4 Pro — and to be honest, the third battery hardly gets used. With fast charging available on most modern drones and long flight times (Mini 4 Pro and Air 3 can hit around 45 minutes), two batteries are usually all you need. After that, it’s a good time to take a break anyway.

Overseas Travel = Mini 4 Pro, No Question

When it comes to traveling overseas, the Mini 4 Pro is unbeatable:

Sub-250g weight means you can avoid registration and licensing hassles in many countries.

Perfect for carry-on luggage with those 7kg airline limits.

Supports FPV-style flying, which opens up a whole new creative world.

Shoots native 4K vertical video, unlike other drones that crop down to 2.7K.

Shares the same image sensor as the Air 3, delivering superb photo and video quality.

It’s honestly the only drone I’d travel with, especially when paired with the RC2 remote.

Air 3: The Ultimate All-Rounder for Local Use

While I’d take the Mini 4 Pro for travel, the DJI Air 3 is hard to beat for everyday use in Australia:

    Telephoto lens

Better speed, wind resistance, and performance

    Supports FPV mode

Can be unlocked for NFZ and altitude limits using Drone Hacks
At its current price, it’s a crazy good deal.

    My Take?
I’d go for the Air 3 now, sell the RC-N2 and look out for the RC2 controller separately also consider upcomming mini 5 pro with RC2

  • Ordered on Thu 17 April and received this email 2 days ago;

    • I reached out to them via chat and I was told the same thing. Then they offered me Air 3S for $1099 so need to pay $300 extra. By that time we had moved to email convo and in 12 hours I received a dispatch with tracking. Haven’t paid extra $300 yet so unsure if I’m getting 3 or 3S. Most likely 3. As their website now has 3 listed for sale again. Must’ve gotten more stock.

      • I received email saying it shipped a few days ago so I guess they had some in stock? The tracking info section of the email says not found however.

  • me too , received the offer Air 3S for $1099 over the phone
accepted as it's $600 (35.3% off) cheaper than current market price ($1699)

    I'm happy both way

    even air 3 for $789

just wondering how much profit digidirect has for each drone …..
