Samsung 1TB Evo Plus MicroSD $109, Pro Plus $125 + Delivery ($0 C&C/In-Store) @ The Good Guys

440

Pro plus can be found here. I couldn't find any stock nearby for the pro plus, so might need to factor in shipping ($5).
Not all time low, but pretty decent price. Bargains on microSD cards seem to be rather sparse of late.
Similar prices at amazon for the evo plus ($111~112) but from third party sellers here.
EDIT: As suggested by RichardL, save $5 by pressing on the "price beat" button on the site. I am clearly not a pro OzBargainer.

Extra $5 off with the price-beat button.

Also reminder that these will not work in the Switch 2.

    • will not work in the Switch 2.

      Why is that?

I can't find any that have the EX / Express logo and are available… Didn't microSD Express come out years ago?

          • +1

@Droz: Sold out immediately when Switch 2 was announced.

Lexar, SanDisk only brands doing it. Lexar only ones doing 1TB. Samsung also have cards in the wings but none on market yet.

Atrix (GameStop/EB Games brand) also released the other day with their own cards in capacities up to 1TB.

            • @adrianhughes1998: I do remember Samsung bigging up their Express line a while ago, surprised they hadn't released yet.

Oh well, I guess an Express isn't necessary until Switch 2's 256 GB internal fills up

          • @Droz: Were available and in stock on Amazon AU when the switch 2 Nintendo direct came out announcing the hardware features. Even then there were only a couple of options - Lexar and SanDisk and I only saw SanDisk up to 256gb. No silicon power or samsung.

I've got a 512gb Samsung in my switch and ran out of space and switch 2 games will surely be larger.

They look to have sold out since then.

  • Yes, the combination of a weak Australian dollar and disruptions to supply chains due to politics, has raised prices. I think the fabs were also making no money a while ago. Pity.

    • The line will go down once again some day :D

    man i need like a nice pcie 4.0 2tb drives for $150

      Thanks for letting me know

storage be expensive now :( didn't realise those chip surpluses stuff was so good as I didn't buy any lol

  • Is this the older version, why is the transfer rate only 130MB/s and not 160MB/s?

  • So confused. Went to the Samsung product page and they harp on about the ability for these things to survive drops, temperatures, water, all that hubub - but not a mention about the actual endurance of these cards (TBW) - are SD cards more durable than SSDs/NVME or what? I want to pop two of these in a Reolink Camera hub, but not if they can't handle having some extensive data written to them over time.

  • Is this fine for the current Nintendo switches? (Non-switch 2)

    • -2

      No. They require microsd express.

      • they specifically said current Nintendo switch

        • ah my brain didn't register it haha.

but yeah most sdcards work fine for switch 1/oled

    • yes its fine for switch 1. microsd express is needed for switch 2

  • Any suggestion for a micro-SD that can do REAL-world WRITE-speed 50MB/s + for mobile-phone use…downloading-torrent?

    Real-world reliability too 😇…1+ years?

    Need 128Gb only, thanks

    • Yeah extereme or evo plus etc work fine

      • Is this personal experience, ie via Windows-OS, you've copied files to micro-SD & noted (or calc) write-speed & what was write-speed?

        • this workin fine for me torrentin on my phones and tablet and yeah same with windows.

they do reach above 50 write speeds easily it's crazy cause microsd cards be faster than a buncha usbs I have

          • @AeymothSky: Weird…pls consider writing a large movie-file, 1Gb+…micro-SD 'TO & FROM' external-HD using Windows-OS, & see what the ACTUAL write-speed you achieve. May be prove this to yourself?

            I just RE-did the above tests using a stop-watch & micro-SD inside a low-midrange 2023 mobile-phone. I got a similar POOR write-speed as per previous FACT-check. I've a 128Gb Samsung PRO+ & JB-Hifi invoice noted '2023' year, https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/samsung-pro-plus-128gb-mi….

I also did the same test as above with OEM SD-adapter (NOT mobile-phone) & got embarrassing write-speed.

            • @ab c: Maybe don't try from an external hard drive? Try internal to the microSD, and make sure your micro/adapter is in a USB 3.X port?

              • @Droz: @Droz, @AeymothSky

                I got WRITE-speed 16.34MB/s ( 1503Gb / 92s ) TO-> Samsung-PRO+2023 micro-SD

                I copied a 1.503Gb file between 2-drives INSIDE my Mediatek-Dimensity-7020-6nm processor, being
a.internal shared storage, eMMC (Embedded MultiMediaCard) of phone
                b.Samsung-PRO+2023 micro-SD.
I repeated this task TWICE: 2nd time got within 1s via StopWatch, https://ibb.co/xqbsdzdv

                I used File-explorer via Windows-OS-desktop.
I also repeated once using Files-APP via Android14-OS (NO File-Explorer) & got even worse time. Running-services noted 5.3Gb free ram.

                • @ab c: Hey I'd like to say I was wrong 😂

                  https://ibb.co/pv5GsCzY

I did a 2gib test so 2gbs file test thing with crystal benchmark with some generic microSD adaptor reader and yeah doesn't seem like it is that fast.

I guess it's something to do with the sd design that they have a very fast burst at the start and it drops off quickly due to it overheating or something.

I actually tested the Samsung 128 gb evo plus on windows here and ye It's not great lol https://ibb.co/pv5GsCzY

But what do you even need that fast speed for? Are you torrenting with 5g or something haha.

I have that same phone g54 :D the battery life is crazy compared to my old poco f3 but yeah i do torrent on this device but never notice it being an issue since my downloads generally don't go past 15mb/s

                  • @AeymothSky: I use-to download via its 128Gb internal shared storage: Embedded MultiMediaCard. I've switched torrenting via a micro-SD card because some torrents take forever to finish & hog the 128Gb: best reserve for Android-OS & APPs…hint, look @ what PC/laptop manufacturers set-up with their SSD-HD & Window-OS.

I use 1DM-APP with bugs & not confident others is better. The problem is when there's a large list of UN-finished torrents (& perceivED-completed torrents) require force-recheck, a slow micro-SD seems to cause 1DM not able to carry out this task, hence MANY-torrents in limbo, requiring individual manual force-recheck. Previously via eMMC, this task is NOT needed.

Via free-wifi: # of users & network dependent, I have SEEN actual-downloading 20MB/s + in-total. Alien Romulus 2024 via PSA-encoder within a few days of 1st release…15MB/s + just for this movie alone until completion.

Via eMMC, I got WRITE-speed 75MB/s, instead of 16.34MB/s, using the same test as per noted above.

                    • @ab c: Man sorry i have trouble reading what your saying,

Just refer to it as internal storage man haha emmc so convoluted.

I used to use that app to and maybe another one

Anyway i use this open source one called FDM.
Idk man i guess you should just use internal storage dl and move it after?

I currently just have it set to directly to the microSD though, otherwise it's probably best to torrent on another device if you want the speed. Can always use quick share function too btw.

          • @AeymothSky: Samsung 64Gb Evo+ MicroSD: I've located it & purchased from JB-Hifi in 2024. I just did a write-speed test…not sure if I need to post a screen-grab via File-Explorer S/W(Window-OS) as proof?

Maybe we should FACT-check what Manufacturers & their many paid-reviews tell us? Often real-world experience fall short of claims…in my case ~ 10% of 1/10th of the 160MB/s: in fine-print 'upto' 🤔

they do reach above 50 write speeds

Maybe it's not wise to share a claim without FACT-checking?

            • @ab c: The 64gb writes are slower.

Also are you sure you're not talking about read. Speeds?

            • @ab c: mate what device are you using?

your adaptor or phone internal storage probably slow lol

            • @ab c: Post the screenshot i will show u my test later today
