As always, worth checking FBM for people selling their hardly used wheels for cheap (close to half price)

    • +35

But this is close to half price and doesnt include any cheeto dust

      • +6

        And a 2 year warranty.

        • +3

And this is new without any sweat

          • @Arch9896: And no bonus insect infestation, sticky cigarette smoke or deep fryer oil coating it, caked on by dust.

      • +3

I meant close to half of this price. A quick look and many listings around the $200 mark, most in new condition.

        • +4

Not sure where you are but hardly any listing that's cheaper than this on FBM near Brisbane lol

    • +3

Yeah this. That said if you're serious about sim racing and willing to extend your budget I'd recommend something direct drive. Even the Moza R3 is leaps ahead of the G923.

      • What is direct drive btw?

        • +1

In a direct drive wheelbase, the motor is connected directly to the steering wheel, without any gears or belts in between. This makes the force feedback a bit more immediate. Also they usually have more powerful motors available.

          • @Shitforbrains: Would direct drive also make it more reliable with less to go wrong?

            • @Loopholio: Yes I would think so, as a simpler design there is less to go wrong.

            • +1

@Loopholio: Direct drive might be a bit more reliable, but for this kit, there's not much in it. The Logi wheels have a rep for keeping on kicking.

Personally, as there is bugger all between this and the G29, I'd look at finding one of those at a lower price or second hand for cheaper still ($250 or less) and do a try before you buy on more serious gear. If you get the bug, you'll want to spend large. If you don't, you'll want to ditch the old wheel with minimal loss - the G29 meets that need. (Source: Me. Bought a new G29 on deep discount, decided it was fun, sold the G29 at $0 cost and moved to fanatec).

          • @Shitforbrains: I c thanks

    • +1

People who bought it here and do further 50% on marketplace in a few months. Any?

    • As somebody that’s about to sell their whole setup, is there a specific group I should use or just general marketplace?

      • I reckon you'll need to sell slightly lower in the local sim groups, but shouldn't be much of a difference.

      • I've not used it, but there is a sim racing gear trading facebook page for australians.

G29 is better deal at 300

    • Why does this comment got multiple negative votes? Is G29 very bad?

      • +2

It's not bad but it is a cheaper model that is older and has less features.

        • The only real positive I could find in reviews is the pedals are better on the g923. I could not day whether it's worth the extra $60

        • +2

The only thing it offers over the G29/920 is "trueforce" which not everyone enjoys or cares for. Internally it is the same hardware they've been using since the G27. It's loud, clunky and rough as guts.

Much better off stepping up to a Moza R3/R5 or Cammus C5.

          • @Snozzly:

which not everyone enjoys or cares for.

This. @Reactor-au absolutely does not deserve down voting. I had the option between the G29 and G293 and the saving with the G29 was worth way more than TrueForce.

Verstappen is going to be trembling when I get my hands on this.

Haven’t used my Fanatec Sim Rig ($2K) for 12 months. Was fun for a few months then you realise you need to spend a lot of time to get good.

Still fun though, save your money and get this

    • +1

Glad I didn't spend heaps on my gear

    • +1

Then you get good and realise this is holding you back from progressing further so need to spend more on fanatec gear

The single most important piece of kit (esp for F1) is loadcell brake, could def get by with this wheel and fanatec loadcell pedal kit, but I found when you riding the absolute limit a direct drive wheel greatly improves your feel for when the car brakes traction and you can correct it faster.

Get this if you just want to have fun solo campaign games, or don't mind being back of the pack online.

When it comes to online Sim racing, pack leaders have 3000+ hours experience, in game and real life and have very expensive rigs. you will be sorely mistaken if you get this thinking it will help you will be competitive.

    • Try to do leagues and do it consistently and not be overly harsh on yourself. Do it to have fun and improve yourself. It's much more enjoyable. I hope you get back into it. Le mans ultimate is really good if you want to sink your teeth into a new game with good close racing.

    • If you are bored of stuff where you are constantly in competition with sweats doing hotlappy stuff all day on all the usual classes on the same tracks, the three things that I love to just mess around with on my wheel setup are Dirt Rally 2.0, BeamNG and Automobilista 2.

  • +6

Buy a used G29 and see if sim racing is for you then put the other $200 you just saved from buying this towards a direct drive.

    • But but consumerism 😟

  • I have one and while it is good, the pedal and the shifter are in no way similar to driving a real car. It's definitely a step up from keyboard/gamepad and fun for arcade racers though.

edit: I do wonder about whether I should have splashed on the moza r3 wheel and pedal combo from the beginning but that's at least $729.00 atm on jb-hifi and I wasn't sure that I'd fully commit to racing games.

There are cheaper ways to collect dust.

  • Can the car stall if I don't press the clutch?

I bought a basic USB unpowered wheel and peddles for $10 at a charity shop. Cleaned it up and used it twice to play Garfield Racing on PC. It was fun. The wheel and peddles live in a cupboard now.
