Searching for some resin for a project of mine which requires a very tough shell so went to Amazon to find some of my standard engineering resin. Found this great deal on 3 of 5 SirayaTech Blu products. Have always had great outcomes with the Blu line of engineering resins for all my super-strong resin requirements. Just wishing they sold them in sizes >1kg as I go through it like a hot knife through butter.

For anyone wondering, the Nylon Black seems to be the strongest, but has a purple-ish hue to it under light. The Obsidian Black has a proper black colour to it but is a bit translucent. Finally the Emerald Blue is obviously a blue colour that is slightly translucent. If you're looking for something with strength but a bit of flex you can also mix in some SirayaTech Tenacious as well, however you'll need to adjust your exposure times and such.

The Tenacious line of resins are also on sale. Clear Yellow 1kg for $59.99, Flex Black 500g for $43.14, Obsidian Black 1kg for $57.61, and Easy Grey 1kg for $53.74.

  • How'd you go with dealing with the additional viscosity of the Blue resins? Having major issues myself compared to standard Anycubic Eco resins -_-

    • +2

Only the occasional issue but it's usually to do with me not putting enough support on a piece. However I also use a brew belt (heated rubber belt, check AliExpress) around my vat so the resin isn't quite as viscous - this is especially the case in winter. The other trick is to raise/lower the plate a bit slower and have a small wait after lowering (if your machine can do those). SirayaTech actually provide printing profiles for all of their resins, for a ton of different printers and slicers. Go check their site and download them. I've found them very helpful.

      • Cheers, yeah using their profile but having lots of support failures and weird curing issues. Will try the brew belt!

        • What sort of weird curing issues? As for the belt, I even use it in summer because it can't hurt.

          • @Tacooo: I'm experiencing like blobs of resin curing to the part where there should be no exposure to UV for some reason. Posted in a FB group seeking help too

            • @SwarleyAUS: Which resin are you using?

              • @Tacooo: Blu emerald blue. https://imgur.com/a/rBi66zx these holes should be circular but there is excess resin curing in them and idk why

                Edit: 0.7mm/s lift/retract, 2s exposure and 5s pre-exposure wait

                • @SwarleyAUS: Ahh yep, that is unfortunately an issue with all resins that aren't completely opaque. Due to the nature of light and the way it travels through materials, excess light spreads around the exposure area when it's blasted with UV. This is a well known issue with transparent/translucent resins, and something that people have been dealing with since resin printing became a thing. Unfortunately it means any resin that isn't opaque isn't great for details which is a real shame. I've stopped using clear resins for this very reason (unless it's a part with minimal detail) which is a shame. Realistically the only way to use transparent/translucent resins is with post processing using traditional tools.

                  • @Tacooo: I would tend to agree but Anycubic Eco resins in clear print fine and don't suffer these issues with the same print file. Siraya claim that Blu is more sensitive to UV so maybe there in something to that theory though.

                    • @SwarleyAUS: Can't say I've had experience with that one personally but it's good to hear they're not all that way. Interesting about what they say concerning its sensitivity. Funny enough Blu usually requires 15mins of curing compared to other resins, so it being extra sensitive is an interesting point.
