Switched (Churn) Electricity + Gas from Engie to AGL: Getting $200 Credit for Electricity + $50 for Gas

I was with Engie for the past few months, having previously been with AGL. I initially switched to Engie to take advantage of one of their offers, which I believe included some credits.

Recently, I contacted AGL and was offered a reasonable deal, so I’ve decided to switch back. They provided a $200 credit for electricity and $50 for gas, along with a 10% discount on the reference price (AGL Value Saver) and a 6-cent-per-litre fuel discount at BP, provided I stay with AGL for 150 days.

This offer appears slightly better than what's listed online. I called them directly and am sharing this in case anyone else is considering switching—it's worth giving them a call.

a 6-cent-per-litre fuel discount at BP

Been on a for a while. Here is the deal. I use it as an AGL Gas Customer.

Also, check the BP locations. Apparently there are no in SA.

But be sure to check their actual rates.

In some cases I found that you get $100 credit but get charged $50 more per month compared to cheapest provider so if you stay more than a month you might end up actually losing money.

    • yeh i just switched to energy Australia cos of a gas issue. they offered a $200 sign up bonus but their rates are more expensive than AGL (my previous provider) so gotta remember to switch again after 3 months

just adding to the friendly warning

      • $200 bonus for gas is very generous

        • haha nah i needed to sign up to their gas and then got suckered in to sign up for their electricity which is what had the sign up bonus

    • Better than what I had.. plus the credit…

      This is churning anyway..

I will likely look for new provider in 4 months

I got $150 for gas doing same as you - which I accepted

Got offered $150 for electricity which I didn’t take up - even with $200 the 150 day stipulation is a deal breaker - might reconsider

Not the greatest deal, especially coming into winter. Many others give you 100-200 upfront.

My suggestion is to exhaust the upfront credit and move on, thereby paying essentially nothing.

AGL will bill you for the most expensive months, and this will happen before you can access the credit.

    • Better than what I had.. plus the credit.. makes this fantastic deal…

      I could not be happier.

      This is churning anyway.

You'll pay out of your own pocket for the first five months, which conveniently falls over winter - a high usage period.

        Anyway, good luck chief.

        • If I was with another provider, would my usage be any lower? It seems like your logic needs polishing, chief!

    • "AGL will bill you for the most expensive months"

No idea what you mean by that. AGL, including all Aussie providers, bills you for what you use…

If your bill is monthly and you are churning, I have no idea what you mean

yeh i had a sign up bonus with AGL before. they applied the government rebate first, then used the credit, and billed any difference

        • It doesnt really matter for our home. We have consistent usuage

  • So you get the credit after 150 days?

    • U get credit if you stay for 150 days makes me feel like u get after 150 days

I will be churning in 4+ months anyway
