[Demonstrator] Leapmotor C10 BEV: Style $41,990 (Was $50,633), Design $44,950 (Was $54,833) Driveaway @ Leapmotor

410

As part of their Demonstrator Sale from 22nd to 27th April, massive $10k discount can be had on 2024 Leapmotor C10 BEV. Plenty of stock on Carsales with very low kms are being advertised for the above prices, including some cars with optional paint ($990). You can probably negotiate a better deal again with the actual demonstrators with higher km.

The website still advertises $50,633 DA (NSW) for Style and $54,833 DA for Design with optional paint at $990.

Test drove the C10 Design at the Everything Electric Show at Sydney, was really impressed on the short drive. The car drives pretty comfortably on a short loop around Olympic Park and should suit most city family buyers. The bings and bongs from the ADAS system described in the reviews were non-existent, I specifically turned them all on, so OTAs must have solved some if not most of the initial complaints. Lane keep assist was also non-intrusive, and speed alert was subdued. Only downside for some people would the lack of Android Auto/Carplay, if you are really desperate for them you can add a Carlinkit dongle yourself (confirmed to work by owners in FB owners group).

Edit: Wireless Android Auto and Carplay is coming via OTA for existing C10s in August Article

Does buying one require a leap of faith?

    • It’s just the motor thats taking the leap.

Those are awesome prices. I'd jump at the REEV if it had a $10k discount.

My only real concern with Chinese cars is parts + OTA updates if we get dragged into a war…

    • +3

I think that would be the last of your worries then!.

      • +1

I can guarantee a $45k debt won't be the least of my worries

        • -1

You can't reason with Pro-Chinense Australian…threats, bulling, uninformed military drills can be ignored as long as you save money on thier products…

Never thought that lack of Android Auto/Car Play would stop me from buying a car. Yet, here we are!

    • Yes I wouldn’t even look at a car without it. Probably have to be wireless too although a dingle is pretty easy.

    • +2

+1 to byd for being able to sideload apps. Nothing like youtube while driving

      • +1

I thought those were technically illegal in NSW

        • +1

It is, but byd isn't letting you do it without an unofficial workaround. Later firmwares fixed it but rolling back isn't too hard

    • yet somehow teslas don't support either

    • They spoke of a OTA update in August. Not sure if this model also gets it. Do try and confirm if thats your only complaint.

      • I personally will never believe those promises again. I bought a C200 W205 around launch with the promise of car play integration (it was in the brochure photos!)… the update never came.

Not sure if they have added it to older models now.

Do correct me if I am wrong but the dongle only allows for wireless Android Auto/Carplay, if the car doesn't support it, plugging in the dongle does not mean you get to use Android Auto/Carplay

    • Correct. They basically use an existing apple Carplay as a video input to do wireless aa/carplay

    • You can add AA/CP if the car has an android-based infotainment system, i.e. the Leapmotor C10.

The following Carlinkit dongle has been shown to add wired/wireless AA or Wireless CP to the C10.

I've driven 30 evs and this one was the worst on at fully electric show. Great price though

    • price is too good though

    • What was the best, BYD?

      • Consistently one of the worst

  • +7

WTF 'Request a Brochure'!? They want all you details just so you can get to see the specs of the car?! That's some BS.

  • You cannot add CarPlay/AA with just a dongle to a car that doesn't have it from the factory.

You're thinking of adding wireless CarPlay/AA to a car that already has the wired version.

As much as I don't want to like Chinese EVs, having sat in this at Everything Electric, that's a lot of car for the money.

You cannot add CarPlay/AA with just a dongle to a car that doesn't have it from the factory.

Not true at all, you can add them if the infotainment system is android-based, which the C10 has.

The following carlinkit will add wired/wireless AA and wireless CP if you want them on the C10: https://www.carlinkit.com.au/carlinkit-cpc200-ccpa-wireless-…

      • Not necessarily - Can you confirm the C10 allows sideloading of apps via usb/wifi? A 2 second google suggests people have tried but cannot.

Your own link says only aftermarket (i.e Not OEM) Android units are supported.

        • Sideloading of apps is a different thing to enabling AA/CP.

The linked dongle has been confirmed to enable AA/CP on the C10 by owners on Leapmotor FB group. OTA update is incoming (ETA August) to enable AA/CP for existing owners of C10 anyways, so not so much of a wait if you don't want to use a third party dongle.

          • @assailantsky: Official word from Leapmotor is AA/CP will never be able to run on current HW - only future refresh (no confirmed date yet) of the C10 will be able to provide native support for AA/CP. Source: Leapmotor

            • @bauser99: Old news. New official words are that it is possible and coming via OTA some time after August. See the article linked in description.

              • @assailantsky: Thank you - I missed the article linked in the description, having said that I'm not sure I would fully trust their statement, ultimately it's up to Google and Apple to approve it and earlier statements from Leapmotor implied they would not certify it based on current HW.

      • True that, I have wireless AA with a USB-A dongle working in my 2013 VW Polo (I retrofitted an OEM touchscreen headunit back in 2019 and it works fine).

I do not think all these EV brands will survive long term in Australia.
This one backed part of Stellantis who do Jeep, Fiat etc. So you get that same service and support.
So probably a good chance they go first :)

For a few $ more I look at the Geely or BYD or Kia

    • What about MG?

      • MG is terrible based on every car I have driven so far. Not recommended if you are after more than just a people mover. Hope their new luxury band will fare much better. Of course, sales wise MG is killing it.

        • +1

Have you tried MG4 or HS EV?

          • @freeb1e4me: I would also stay away from SAIC in my experience. I'd mostly avoid Chinese ICE vehicles. The Chinese are amazing at EVs but very poor at ICE. Half the Chinese new cars are already EV, so there's no incentive to invest in ICE R&D.

          • @freeb1e4me: I have a MG4 great car got a deal drives great. Software not great UK get updates all the time, nothing in OZ. we paid $28k for a demo.
They gone up again new i pay a little extra for something else if you spending over $40k
If you spending $30k yes MG great
Also depends if you care about how they drive or tech

            • @davemc: How many kms in the demo mg4 ? Driveaway price?

              • @freeb1e4me: 16k on a Excite 64 for $28k. We look to keep it for 10 years probably.
Added a wireless CarPlay adapter which helps as the screen laggy.
We also have Tesla which is a long way ahead on tech and drives just as well.
Wanted a smaller car. It drives really nice and good car. Outside driving dynamics not sure against other cars over $40k new it stands up tech wise. I need to turn One Pedal driving on each time I drive the car :(
Then turn off the safety crap that is only for 5 star and does not work in real world.
Latest software build in Australia is from 2023. So I cannot see anything getting fixed.

For around $30k its a great car once it starts getting close to Geely, BYD and Kia not so sure.
Also a s/h Tesla can be found easily over $40k

Edit. I knew all of this before I got the car.
Also knew the baseline has no voice commands and rear camera the worst quality of any car I ever had :)
Have no problems with the cloth seats etc.. I just think they could have spent a bit more effort on it against other cars.
It does not sell well at all in China.

                • @davemc: Thanks for sharing your experience.

That’s sound annoying to have to turn on One Pedal driving (whatever that is) and turn off “safety crap” each time you drive the car.

Also what year is the vehicle?

                  • @freeb1e4me: 2023 build.. was the dealer demo for a year.. Same software as you get on new cars in OZ.. Have a ZIP of it from May 2023 :)

Honestly a great car just over $40k I would look around at something with more newer tech.
Under $30k it a great car.

The safety crap seems to be most new cars now to get 5 star ANCAP.
Deepal was supposed to be really bad and fixed after getting slammed in reviews.
                    https://www.drive.com.au/news/deepal-s07-driver-attention-fi…

I probably spoilt having a Tesla for 2 years and getting lots of fixes and new things from OTA OS updates.
If watching stuff on the net we do not get the same as UK.. GWM ORA was the same UK version has a app and voice.. Oz version nope

        • They're killing it because the MG4 isn't a bad car fyi.

  • +2

Cheap but ugly AF, looks like they asked AI to create an SUV design based on the most popular vehicles on the market and this is the result.

  • +3

This rates poorly in every review I have seen. I also don't see being part of the Stelantis group and being a positive. Think Jeep, Alfa etc. This is likely to have poor after sales support and will devalue faster than most other brands. Stelantis are known for poor quality, unreliability, high parts prices and poor after sales service. The price is not cheap enough to account for this.
It says something that a newly released vehicle is already being discounted.

    • Stelantis are known for poor quality, unreliability,

Luckily for us, Stellantis don't manufacture these vehicles, Leapmotor in China is in charge of the design and production.

It says something that a newly released vehicle is already being discounted.

I would say that it was priced a bit optimistically/opportunistically in the first place (6 months ago), now with Geely EX5 here, the competition is heating up.

  • The Green colour is such a great Green. Makes me almost want one.

  • -3

Rubbish brand, even in china local market, not many ppl want to buy it.

  • what an ugly looking car

  • I might be interested when the REEV version is launched and does a price lowering trick like this. Very excited about REEV tech.

  • +1

The company behind brands like Jeep, Maserati, Alfa romeo etc is part of the ownership. The REEV version has Maserati tuned dynamic handling. This brand may yet survive.

      • Haha I am dreaming of 40k but realistically $45k for the higher trim.
