  • Hmm 6-bay, with 8Gb ram, can be had for $999 (non-expandable memory though)

    • It says up to 16gb?

      • not for the 6 bay…

    • Or Terramaster F6-424 6-bay + 2x NVME for $999.99 with expandable RAM and better CPU. Understandably not QNAP tho if that's people's flavour. And I'm sure there's been better pricing on sale.

    Wow… I paid $600 for this in 2023…

    • +2

Via an eBay deal? I remember these were about that price on the 25% off deals

        yes…futu_online

        Damn Albo and his inflation…
That is a 66% price jump.

        • +9

What do you mean by "Albo and his inflation" ?

When Albo came to power in May 2022, inflation was already massive at 6.1% - this is the rate he inherited from the Morrison government.

Since then, Albo's government has got it back down under 3% - and they've done it without a recession, without a decline in employment, and without a notable increase in unemployment.
This is something that's never been done before.

Their record on inflation is exceptional 🤷

@jv: Thanks for the exact link mate!

Also by your own reference inflation in march 2022 was around 5%. So yeah you do have some substance to 0% claim

                  • -6

@PennyPincher11: Liberals got inflation to 0% before covid hit.
I posted a link to the graph.

            • +6

@jv: You've just linked to a graph which precisely shows the steeply climbing 6.1% rate that the Morrison government handed over, and then shows the rate peaking and dropping back under 3% today.

              ???

I say again, what do you mean by "Albo and his inflation" ?

              • -8

                @Nom:

steeply climbing 6.1% rate that the Morrison government handed over,

steeply climed to 8% under Albo's inflationary policies.

Scomo had it between 0% - 2% for pretty much the whole period he served until covid hit.

Food, utilities have gone up 25% under Albo, were pretty much at the same level under Scomo.

People now can't find a house to rent and rents are skyrocketing under Albo's policies.

My doctor's fees have also gone up about 20% over the last 3 years, but had stayed the same over the previous 5 years.

@jv: It's almost like the LNP left a time bomb and it finally went off. Weird that =\

                • +3

@jv: Scomo and his ilk put us in a gdp recession in 2019. 0% inflation is not a good thing. If covid had not hit and saved that numpty we would have had a full blown recession without a single outward point of pressure causing it. Liberals have and always will be terrible economic managers

and what exactly is Victoria's debt right now? 🤣🤣🤣

Ouch yeah even a year ago they were $250 cheaper

      Yeah it kills me

  • Times have changed since 2023 , i recently bought this begrudgingly when my TS 453 Pro failed. Been happy with it although.

    • I also had a TS-453Be that failed.
My original TS219P is still going strong though…

  • Any good for jellyfin server and docker to run some python scripts / arrs? Or overkill?

I'm just kind of wondering if a NAS is any more beneficial than my current setup of raspi + SMB share to my NVIDIA shield (obviously data redundancy, but really not sure that I care if my movies get deleted by drive failure)

Would appreciate anyone's perspective or reasons they use their NAS I haven't thought of

  • Anyone seen any drive deals to accompany?

  • I got this in 2023, how do I check if I can upgrade RAM? Which type of RAM is compatible with this?

    • +2

Physically look as I believe a lot of the 8G do not have soldered RAM. It is DDR4 sodimm like a laptop. I have 2 X 16gb 2666 Crucial in mine (not an 8G model though).

    • +2

Yes you can easily upgrade it. I upgraded mine to 32GB last year https://prnt.sc/UXqw55Q7WSs8

  • +1

I've had one of these for about a year now, full, all drive bays & m.2 and RAM upgrade done also.

Here's my pro's/con's for those interested.

    1. Pro: 4x 3.5" + 2x M.2 supports dual 2.5GbE, and it's X86… So decently supported by everything.

    2. Pro: Compact… It's not a lot bigger than the 4x drives really - so will fit most places.

    3. Con: QNAP QTS doesn't have the best track record when it comes to security and bugs. It's not recommended to expose these online generally speaking.

    4. Con: The case is mostly plastic, over time, it develops a rattle from the vibration of the drives, it's a known issue.

    5. Pro: it's got enough power to run a lot of services, and supports video acceleration, so yeah you can run Plex/Jellyfin and Transcode with it.

All that said… Would I buy it again, at the current price? No, I think Terramaster with Unraid on it would be a more compelling option (though right now they don't seem to be on sale so maybe wait a bit hah.)

    • @sirix, Thought of replying when I saw 'Unraid' in your comment. Not sure if you know, you can run Unraid on Qnap too; I have been doing that on my current Qnap TVS-H674.
I don’t like the QTS software too. I used to have a Qnap TS—653B, and had Unraid on that too. Its so much better and faster than QTS. Even the boot up so much more quicker.

      • Yeah i've seen people putting alternative OS's on it, and that's totally an option, although unfortunately that's only really an option if you're just starting out with it, there's no real way to migrate QTS to Unraid without loosing data as far as im aware.

That said, and as i kind of eluded to, i think there's other options that'll give the same or more performance, for less $ in the current market.

  • +3

    Wow, this went up!??
Hard to pick this over an Aoostar 4bay ryzen build.
Guess if you really love the software, maybe. But you're paying big for it.
Plenty of good, mature NAS operating systems around though (unraid, OMV etc)

  • +4

We're in the era of everything only getting more expensive over time

  • +1

$1000 for an N95 (superceeded) 4 bay with a 16g RAM?? Terramaster 8GB N95 was $600 not long ago, leaving plenty of change to put an extra 8gb in. Even for $800 on sale you could have had their N305 transcoding banger.
