I'd bite if it was a newer version, but the 2021 model has been cheaper many times, yeeeears ago. Wild they still have it in stock honestly.
If it dropped down to 50 odd bucks (again) I'd bite just because my Echo Show 5s have held up remarkably well after years of daily use.
has been cheaper many times
Really? Are you sure it's the 8 you're thinking about, and not the 5?
I have an 8, a couple of 5s, a Studio, and a heap of Dots with and without clocks.
I recall this being just down under $100 a few times and the 5s getting to 50-$60, but I can't say I recall the 8 ever being any cheaper.
$59.00 (Apr 09, 2022)
Smashed it then. I paid $89 (minus cashbacks and discounts) back in Nov '21.
All good, I've made up for it with all the free Dots and an insane deal on the Studio in Dec '21.
Yup.
Also bought my three 5s for 35 a piece from Amazon in the day.
I've been waiting for it to drop again too. I didn't think I'd get as much use out of it as I have TBH.
The sound out of these is so much more superior to the google hubs.
wtf happened to google hubs and associated devices running google home hey? At one point i had a few lenovo devices, some google home , google home minis etc at work/home/my work shop - now nothing available
yeah I suspect they're getting ready to launch some AI tjing. But their current system is getting worse every month. Voice recognition for our whole house is getting worse & worse. I'm getting voice responses in different accents. Routines/Automations I've had for years have stopped working. Speakers intermittently stop responding to commands or say it doesn't recognise your voice. Which requires a hard reset to fix. requesting to play playlists from YTM (or stuff we've uploaded) no long works via voice, we need to broadcast them from a phone.. Connecting via Chromecast to a speaker takes several goes to work.
all in all it's gone from a great product to a shit one. My nearly dozen google devices won't get replaced when they fail. Except maybe Chromecast as they work fairly well.
I'm looking forward to Perplexity AI Voice & even possibly trying out Home Assistant Voice
Thanks grabbed one. It’s replacing an echo spot 1st gen. The sound is terrible on that thing!!
They were shocking. Put still good if you plug into an amplifier via a 3mm cable.
It won't reach. Use at least a 200mm cable.
anyone know if this can display eufy cameras on this device? especially if someone rings the eufy doorbell ?
The Eufy doobell rings through our Alexas, then announces that "Someone is at the T8000blah,blah,blah…".
And YES, the Show 8 also shows a stream from the front door. (Don't think I could access my old Solocams, but I can't recall trying.)
Thank you
Hey @Snoop, when you say rings through your Alexas, do you mean the doorbell rings through the Echo Show & then announces someone is at the…… or that it rings through other Alexa speakers & then announces through the echo show. We Have a Eufy E340 doorbell & are looking to add a Alexa product for an internal chime & if this works then would probably find more useful than just a speaker like the echo dot etc. Thanks
@PAFC1870, I have a Eufy Doorbell Slim and repeater.
When first rung, you'll hear the chime at the doorbell and on the repeater. A second or two later, all of our Echos through the house (the Show 8, a pair of Show 5s, and a heap of Dots with clock) will chime and then make the announcement that "someone is at the T8220… (door)". The Shows will then cast a live view from the doorbell. (Unfortunately, it doesn't look like you can talk through the camera's speaker via Show like you can the Eufy phone app though.)
How much customisation there is in only allowing particular units to play the chime, I don't know as I haven't played around enough. But I'm happy for it to go through all so that no matter where we are, someone we'll hear it.
Just played around then, and you can set up the camera in the Alexa app to further control doorbell chimes, notifications, etc. and which devices to receive announcements on. I'm sure it would probably do a heap more if I played around further.
@Snoop: @Snoop, thankyou for the reply. Thats exactly what i was hoping. We just have the standalone bell atm and thought maybe this would do the trick with having an internal chime rather than buying the dedicated chime or just the echo dot speakers etc. Our house isnt that big, how loud is the chime on the Echo Show?
Thanks…
Me and Frankie and Jimmy
And some Italian guy
were looking for one of these…
Did you practice that joke in a subway, in a lobby, or a hall?
Yes, We were practicing oldie jokes but they were newies then…
Just what I wanted!
I too like to have an unknown number of third parties listening to my private conversations at home.
Maybe I can spy on other household members with this.

As you type this from your phone with a front facing camera, inbuilt microphone, GPS, and 19 tracking apps running in the background. You're practically off the grid.

Nah. Using a degoogled phone with the camera covered.
Yeah, kind of makes you think twice before openly discussing any highly classified national security details with your kids. 🤦🤣
I bought the same price in 2022 black firday $89. I am still using it
Thanks! Managed to get one.
Does anybody have any Ring Doorbells they use with this or have setup any smart home lights/sensors?
Older version be aware
