Ace, might get a few of these for around the outside of garage
How do people install this?
An electrician?
Electrician.
Remove your current light and replace like for like. Screwdriver and pliers is all you need. Ready for the downvotes
You missed out on step one, make sure the switch is off.
One more. Check the wiring with a multimeter and make sure it is not live. i.e 0 volt!!
Otherwise get an electrician to do it.
$20 for the bulb, $200 for the electrician to install ;)
Can we change the lights in these or do we need to change the whole unit(mindful of the electrician costs) if it’s dead
It’s not end user serviceable
I don’t know what that means but I think you are saying we are not able to change the light ?
Yes, you must replace the entire unit if it fails, an electrician is legally required.
(You are the "end user", and you cannot service (replace/repair) the unit)

5 left on shelf at Gawler (SA).
@A 1: Thank you. I know the led lights last for a long time but prefer to go hardwired with a changeable light
@A 1: Big difference between 'cannot' and 'should not'
I definitely can, and have done so.
Nanny state.@Quarn: Yes, of course you can (illegally) if you choose.
However, in the context of the above conversation where we are clarifying basic terminology with someone, I would suggest that "cannot" is the correct and safe response to them, for their implied level of knowledge (no offence intended to that user).
700lm is rather useless outdoors unless you have a whole pile of these things near each other
Any recommendations for outdoor LED lights (e.g. one floodlight) that will light up a big backyard?
How big a yard we talking?
The key will be mounting it high enough to cover the whole yard.
Keen to know as well.
Depends on the size of the backyard. Couple of fam members have this one and it's really good: https://www.bunnings.com.au/deta-9300lm-diy-slim-profile-flo…. Covering an area of approx 15m x 10m. It's very bright. There's also a brilliant lighting branded one that's similar lumens and price but the reviews are terrible with high failure rate.
Just look at the manual, things to know is
1: sensor tigger is at 110 degrees angle
2: minimum installation height 1.8M, max is 4M, recommend is 2M
3: lux: 30-200, timing: 5 sec to 12 mins
More lumens here, but NO sensor, also $20 (I assume it's also on discount, but can't check right now).
