Xbox Game Pass Core 12-Months Subscription $79.99 (Was $89.95) @ Costco (Membership Required)

290

Was searching for a XBOX Game Pass Core subscription as my current subscription is expiring soon and found COSTCO is now selling this online.

Delayed Delivery
It seems a lot of users are experiencing delays with Costco's digital giftcard delivery. Here are few solutions that worked for some users. Try those if you are experiencing same issue.

  • TEER3X: Try clicking resend 3x times in the app
  • Summoner: Try clicking resend on Costco online website, not the app.

If you are still experiencing issues, you would need to contact Costco for support.

trixieb explains this in his post. Here are the details:

I spoke to Costco Member Care on (03) 5316 7223 and was advised for those affected to call this number and provide your order details.

    I need an ultimate one

    • -2

Core to Ultimate is 2:1 so one year = six months. So 80 for 6 months, so 13.33 per month of Ultimate. That's cheaper than RRP but not cheap enough to bother for me.

      • -4

        Not cheap enough to bother?

So what's the alternative, go without?

      • -3

        the ratio has changed, check
        https://support.xbox.com/en-US/help/subscriptions-billing/ma…
12 months of Game Pass Core only convert to 114 days of Ultimate (3+ months)
I just bought one , and my sub only add 114 days.
I don't recommend anyone buy this for existing ultimate

        • +13

As discussed in few comments in this post, the conversion ratio is different when:

          • Upgrading Core to Ultimate: 2:1 (12 months Core converted to 6 months Ultimate)
          • Adding Core code to Existing Ultimate Subscription: Approx. 3:1 (12 months Core converted to 114 days Ultimate)

It's all in the link you have provided.

So, always remember to let the Ultimate subscription to expire before redeeming Core code.

    • +2

You can convert Core Subscription to Ultimate subscription at 2:1 conversion rate which is what i did around 6 months ago.

I recently "flew" to India - bought 3 x 12 months Core, then bought 1 month Xbox Game Pass ultimate (both from Eneba). I've now got 18 months of Game Pass ultimate for around AUD125.

      • How recent was this?

It seems microsoft is cracking down on those virtual trips, so i wasn't sure if this could still be done or not…

        • +2

This was last Saturday. The codes wouldn't redeem on my Aussie account (even with VPN to India or the Singapore workaround). So I had to create a new Microsoft Outlook account with India as the region and it worked straight away. Currently logged in on my Xbox series X with the Indian account but it's shared with my Aussie account. Hope that helps!

          • @dealsforlife: Thanks for the update. So, how does it work if you use it like that?

I am currently playing Monster Hunter Wilds, so all i need at the moment is Core for multiplay. Would i be able to play multiplay on my main account if i have another account logged in with gamepass?

            • +2

@Summoner: Yes, theoretically, you should be able to do that. I do the same with my PS+. Good luck!

          • @dealsforlife: Looks like they've started blocking VPN now when claiming code on an account that's not native in that region, ie. India. 🤔

        • +1

          I just did this yesterday.

Used Nordvpn on Chrome to change my region to India, redeemed 36mths of Core (started with 12 mths first) and then 1mth of Ultimate.

          • @lolcoaster: Ok so it still works without having to create new account in that region ?;

            • +1

@lohpp: Yes - mine was an existing account that was previously subbed to Gamepass ultimate.

              • @lolcoaster: Mine is expiring soon so really want to know. Did you wait for it to go expire and did you change your account region to India before redeeming the codes?

                Thanks.

          • @lolcoaster: hi

can i asked even if u vpn to india
where do u buy the sub in the first palce?

FYI Shapes competition is still going. Currently $2 at Coles. Can win 1 month of PC gamepass or 20 days of Ultimate. 54 codes for 3 years of Ultimate.

    • +4

you also have plenty of shapes to eat. That's a bonus

    • +10

No luck with that plan here - twelve packets and zero wins.

      • Thanks for the comment. I was almost ready to head to Coles :O

      • -8

        I bought quite a few shapes in the end. But so far;

        1 x Xbox
        2 x $100 prepaid mastercard
        104 x 1 month PC gamepass

Initially the gamepass instant wins were not consistent but adjusting lodgement times improved it.

        • What do you mean by lodgement times? Like an exact hour or something?

      • Unlucky. I've had two wins so far from six boxes.

      • -1

Do you throw the shapes in the bin outside at Coles after you rummage through them for a game pass?

  • Do they sell just for pc

  • +1

Anyone know if you can add to a current GPU account, will it automatically convert to 6months?

    • Yeah, would like to know that too or do we have to wait until the current ultimate sub expires?

    • I was searching for this information. A few online comments suggest that if you redeem a Core code while having an active Ultimate subscription, a 3:1 conversion rate applies. So, those comments suggested letting the Ultimate subscription expire before redeeming the Core code.

I haven't tested this myself, so I'm not sure if this is true.

      • Thanks, steep conversion if true, will hold off for now

        • Yes. As mentioned in my comment above the conversion rate when upgrading Core to Ultimate is 2:1.

However, there are number of users who reports when trying to redeeming Core code while having active Ultimate subscription, the conversion rate is 3:1.

As mentioned in my previous comment, i havent tested it myself, so you are welcome to try.

          • +1

@Summoner: You are correct. By the official link I posted 12 month code of Gamepass core will convert to 114 days of Ultimate. What a rip off. Sorry I didn't read the full page. If you have Ultimate and add 1 month Gamepass Core you still get 2:1.

            • +1

              @Bruceflix: I think you mean 3:1? It's quite simple:

              • Existing GPU subscription = 3:1
              • New GPU subscription = 2:1

Hence why it's always better to wait until GPU sub expires before redeeming Core (Yes I have done this before)

              • @nategasm: No. 1 month game pass core to existing ultimate will give 2:1 . Longer than 1 month will give less. According to the official xbox site

                • @Bruceflix: Thanks for clarification, it's a shame you can't get 1 month codes for cheap anyway

                  • @nategasm: So which is correct?

Better to add core while having active ultimate or after it expires?

                    • @lufee: Bro…

                    • @lufee: Better to add after ultimate expires, unless you can find cheap 1 month Core codes (which you can't)

  • +1

My wife's and mine PHP monthly PC subscriptions have no issues renewing each month at $4.xx (depedending on exchange rate that month) so that might still be one of the cheapest ways?

    • I'm interested… How does this work?

      • +2

I followed this back in December, then did it again for my wife's account in January after the first renewal went fine. The only difference will be step one as the link was invalid, but I simply bought the same product from a different seller, and the rest of the instructions went fine.

Note, the linked deal was marked as expired when I did it too, but I assume that was just because the first month deal price wasn't available any more.

        • Heck yeah! I haven't had an Xbox since the 360, but PC game pass has been great. $4-5/mo I think I can stomach if this is as good as it gets right now.

          • +1

@yamumma: I loath subscriptions but as you say, I can stomach this. Wife has been playing some crime scene game the other day as well as a botanical one, I have utilised CoD (would never have purchased full price) and Diablo. Cod and diablo standalone purchases would have cost me over 4x the total cost to date, let alone the other games I have played.

  • My ultimate is expiring in 12 days any idea for a cheaper renewal option?

    • +1

Yeah, buy a couple of these for $160, redeem as core, then convert to ultimate. But remember to wait until your current sub expires first!

The days of doing the VPN trick are over.

      • Darn, no more vpn allowed 😞 M$ has caught up.

      • Is that not working anymore even for game keys bought elsewhere? That sucks

        • +1

Someone above confirmed to my question that VPN still works fine for an account registered to Aust.

      • Do I redeem them now as core or after sub expires?

        • You can buy the codes now, wait 12 (11 days now) until the current sub expires. Redeem as core, then convert to ultimate at a conversion of 2:1.

          • @Dreamcazman: If I let it expire, do I lose access to current Xbox game pass games that I am playing?

            • +1

@hullas: If you are referring to the games included in PC gamepass or Ultimate, unless you own the game, you will lose access to the games you are playing.

However, you will be able to access them again once you reactivate your gamepass subscription.

If you are worried about saves, most of the gamepass game progress is saved on the cloud, so you do not lose them unless you delete the cloud save manually.

Just make sure the game you are playing keeps the saves in the cloud, if not, you will have to keep them seperately.

  • Tried to purchase this last night and still no redemption code. Website shows shipped and also tried to contact Costco support and was told:
“Unfortunately we are having technical issues with this item at the moment.

This has been raised to our web team and they are getting this resolved as soon as possible.

    Apologies for any inconvenience.”

Anyone else; not sure if bot responded. Tried to resend code which didnt work

    • I bought one on 26th and was delivered around 30 min later via email.

email came from [email protected] with the title "A gift card for you!".

      • Same thing happened for me today too.

    • Wish I saw this comment before I bought. My codes are also not coming through, zzz.

Edit: Can’t even send a support ticket / form through the app, just times out and errors. Website is also slow as (profanity) like we’re in the dial up ages. Won’t be buying from Costco again, what a shocking experience.

      • I used the chat function to contact via browser. Anyway still waiting.

        • I can’t even try to resend the code anymore using the button on the item order page. Epic.

          • @Exerion: Still no code for me.

            • @javab0y: me either. Waiting for Monday when their support team are back in the office to find out what the (profanity) is going on.

            • @javab0y: Ended up calling service number and spoke to someone about what’s going on. They just said they know a problem is going on with Xbox Games Pass and DoorDash apparently with no ETA. Ended up refunding and I’ll just get it from JB instead

              • +2

@Exerion: I still had the resend code button, and used that, ended up working!

                • +1

@javab0y: I bought a $100 DoorDash gift card at Costco online about an hour ago. About 30 minutes after purchase, I checked the app and found the order status had changed to "shipped." I checked my email, but there was no code.

I returned to the app, pressed "resend code," but still nothing.

I then went to Costco online via browser, tried generating an invoice to see if that helped, and then pressed "resend code." I then received the email with the code.

So, if anyone does not receive their code, maybe try going to Costco online via browser and then pressing "resend code" on their website?

  • A family member with Costco membership bought this for us last Friday 2nd. No code has been received.

They tried the resend code option yesterday, still no code.

They were told this morning by the Costco online chat that the code will definitely be sent in the next 24 hours. Haven't seen it yet! Let's see if it's comes through in the next 16 hours or so 🤷

    • This seems to be an ongoing issue… Did you finally received the code? If not, have you tried following methods that worked for some of us?

      • TEER3X: Try clicking resend 3x times in the app
      • Summoner: Try clicking resend on Costco online website, not the app.
      • We haven't received the code. Resend code was tried via the website to no avail.

Family member called Costco support and they said they can see that it was supposed to send but has failed. They've asked us to wait until Monday and if the code hasn't been received to contact them again.

        • The code finally came through 5:30pm yesterday, a week after first purchased and lots of mucking around. Would I buy again? If I had my own Costco membership - sure. But don't want to hassle family member with all the chasing up they had to do again, so probably not.

          • @alkster: Good to hear the code finally came through.
Costco definitely has to get its system straight. Hope they fix this soon.

  • thanks
