Just a heads up for those that didn’t know - HiPages is majority owned by News Corp - so you are contributing to Ol’ Rupert’s coffers when you use his site.

May or may not be a factor when considering this bargain.

    • It's peanuts compared to REA which everyone uses.

so you are contributing to Ol’ Rupert’s coffers

      Why would that matter?

Thanks for the heads up, will definitely avoid

Good to know. That explains why the Block television series uses Hi Pages tradies. News Corp also owns Channel 9.

      • Channel 9 is owned by Nine Entertainment who also own the Sydney Morning Herald and The Age.
Nine Entertainment also owns 60% of Domain Group (the competitor to RealEstate.com.au)

Powered by Econnex. Guessing they expect that the majority of people signing up have been significantly overpaying, collect the referral reward, and redistribute some of it to those who haven't overpayed?

    • Would assume so. Wonder if they'll let me sign up - haven't been here for quite a few months in the last year so usage is lower than it'll be in the next 12 months…

Might give it a shot but expecting they'll knock it back for unusually low usage.

Lots of work to get the actual energy rates

    • +2

I don't think they offer a plan, they put you on a electrical retailer's plan and get a commission.

  • So kind of like Bill Hero, but instead of the subscription fee, and then you choose who to go with. They choose for you (at least partially) based on kickbacks, Might be alright for 12 months.

  • +1

If you wanted to you could switch every few months and take advantage of all the kickbacks on offer by using cashback websites. Probably save more than 20% doing it yourself.

Also there's many exceptions in the terms and conditions means that beating my competitive tariff is not eligible. My tariff is Origin Energy's friends and family discount offer.

I've used Hipages in the past. The level of scum was actually incredible.

They tell you that each lead costs $x. Then most of the leads are fake and all are at least $2*x.

I had to fight them tooth and nail to get out of the fraudulent contract and close my account. Luckily for me they recorded the sales call with all the lies.

After closing my account I started getting emails from Hipages users responding (paying $$$ for it) to leads coming from my closed account. Now I wonder who has the access to create fake leads using closed accounts…

    • Maybe a report to OAIC.

Same experience, HiPages reps promise you everything if you refuse to sign up, even a guaranteed number of leads which they obviously fail to deliver.

Thanks for feedback, I saw this post last night and it sounded amazing but also potentially too goo to be true. Sounds like it's a stay away.

Doesn’t mention when you’d get the gift cards if applicable. Their terms list is pathetically incomplete. Treat with caution I guess.

  • Not receiving OTP via SMS?

    Edit: Worked after 5 tries…

  • Will they honor it if you haven’t been actively at the property full time for the last 12 months but will be in the next?

Terms say nothing against this, power has been connected for the full last 12 months so meets that eligibility.

Any details on their rates without going through process to compare plans first and determine if the $1000 will even be worth it? (Could be more than $1000 difference)
