I don't get it. Is it a heater or just ornamental? If it's a heater, I'm not keen on putting a TV right on top of a heat source!? If it's ornamental then $1k??

A high resistance element is placed in line with the power. That resistance causes the element to heat up.
They're not difficult to understand. Most will have learned in primary school science, using a resistor and a 9v.
The heater projects heat outwards, not upwards. Generally these types of units have a fan that blows the heat forward.

That said, the 120 Volt bit worries me. Probably just a cut-n-paste error from the US model, but who knows. Maybe this is the US version and they just redirected it to Australia due to US tariffs and forgot about the voltage difference?
Where's the deal? This appears to just be the standard price for this item.
