[SOLVED] Price Change at The Good Guys

I have a screenshot of the goodguys advertising an ipad for $499 until the 11th May. I noticed today it is now $599. The online chat was no help

Are there are regulations that allow them to change the price? I was hoping to do a price beat at officeworks for that price?
In retrospect, I should have purchased days ago.
Thanks

The online and paper catalogue says the $499 pricing starts at 1st of May. today is the 29 of April. See screenshot https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/10382/121220/2025-04-2…

Big W will run the same deal, posted here and I'm sure Officeworks will follow and price match.

Thank you for your reply. I am going to pay with flybuys dollars so not sure if that works.

          • @LovesBargains123: I don't think you can use flybuys dollars at The Good Guys.

Also sadly I don't think you can use flybuys dollars to buy giftcards.

Alternatively you could spend your flybuys dollars to pay for your groceries over a few weeks and buy the giftcards using another payment method. Assuming you were going to spend $499 on groceries at some point anyway, you will come out +$50 ahead.

Shops can withdraw a price at any time for example if the price was in error. In this instance, it looks like the promo that ends 11/05 hasn't even started yet. You can't force a shop to sell you at a certain price, especially if you only intended to use it to price match at another store, lol

Thank you for this information. I didn't realise the sale hadn't started as the price was advertised on their website yesterday. Obviously they made an error and changed it today. Of course I cant force a shop to sell it to me at a price, i just wondered if there were regulations as to price changes and you have confirmed they can change at anytime. So now I know.

Ok so the problem is you are complaining about a company altering the price not so you can even buy the product from that store but just because you can't now go to a different store and make them price match that store. Do you realize the sense of entitlement this gives off that you are shitty a store you have no intention of spending $1 with has changed their price?

    • There was an article about a boat arriving a couple days ago

Can name that law that stops a store from changing their prices ?

    • Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (CCA) Section 2.125- Store cannot change advertised price until after 14 days after it advertises intention of change of price on all national newspapers.

Failure to adhere to Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (CCA) Section 2.125 is a penalty of 2 jellybeans.

    Did you make that up?
