FYI: Everyday Extra 10% Discount at BIG W No Longer Available after May 2025

Changes coming into affect in June that may affect whether it's worth it anymore…

Per the website:

The Everyday Extra subscription is changing.

From Sunday 1 June 2025, the monthly 10% off discount at BIG W will no longer be a part of Everyday Extra.

Subscribers will continue to enjoy these savings and benefits with Everyday Extra:
-10% off one shop every month at Woolworths, in store or online.
-2x Everyday Rewards points on every shop at Woolworths and BIG W, in store and online.
-Extra Perks like freebies and promotions from time to time, as well as new subscriber-only deals from BIG W and other partners.

Why are you making this change?

Over the past 12 months, BIG W has reduced prices on thousands of products. With this focus on keeping the lowest possible prices every day, we are removing the Everyday Extra 10% discount at BIG W. You'll still enjoy a monthly 10% discount at Woolworths (in-store or online) as well as double points every time you shop at both Woolworths and BIG W. We know that the removal of the 10% discount at BIG W is disappointing, however we will be providing more ways for subscribers to enjoy value through new subscriber-only deals at BIG W and other partners as part of Extra Perks, starting from June.

  • Damn. I was just about to sign up to help with Switch 2.

    • +7

It doesn’t work on gaming consoles anyway.

      • +3

        Games and accessories do.

        • +2

Not on something worth >$500, like the Switch 2 console.

I presume the cost of Everyday Extra will also drop given that what is being offered has been diminished.

When you end your email with “if you prefer to cancel and get a pro rata refund” that’s code for too bad… no soup for you

    • Well what I want to know is how I get a partial refund for my fees given I signed up for this benefit?! Surely they have to offer it until my 12 month renewal comes around without it being misrepresentation!?

      • +3

        Read the email you got

          Thanks

          Cancellations and refunds

I just renewed my annual Everyday Extra subscription before you announced this change. What are my options regarding this change in benefits?
If you would prefer not to continue with your annual subscription, you can cancel immediately and request a pro-rata refund. If you are in the first month of your annual subscription, we're happy to provide a full refund. This option will be available online through your Rewards account until 30 June 2025.

Can I cancel my subscription and get a refund?
Annual subscribers can request to cancel their subscription immediately and receive a pro-rata refund. Simply log in to your Rewards account at everyday.com.au, or visit the Extra page in the Rewards app and follow the prompts to manage your subscription.

I'm a monthly subscriber, am I eligible for a refund?
The changes do not come into effect until 1 June, so you can cancel your monthly plan auto-renewal before this time if you would like to discontinue your subscription.

Another benefit cut. After a few months of no monthly Extra Perk freebies, I have finally got one. A pack of chewing gum. Ms bbinc got a single pack of pocket tissues. The rest of the ‘Extras’ have been just discounts on things I don’t buy or want to sign up to.
They seem to have forgotten they sold us these ‘rewards’.

    • +1

Yeah mine have been garbage lately as well

  • +1

Eh, it's easily worth it at the current prices. I've had $30 per year for 2 years now. Easy to hit value with the 10% discount each month.

Gets less exciting once it actually charges at $60.

Probably getting ready to offload Big W to a private equity firm

      lol

    • +8

100% because the team member benefits for Big W have also changed in line with this announcement for EDE.

This exact thing happened back in 2014 when they were trying to sell it off but ended up getting no buyers.

    • you heard it here first - breaking news "Woolford expects a sale of Big W will happen over the next 18 months with private equity the most likely buyer.'
'disappointing clothing sales at Big W took the gloss off an otherwise upbeat trading report, with second-half losses for the discount chain now tipped to nearly double the company’s initial estimate.'
      https://www.afr.com/companies/retail/woolworths-sales-growth….

  • I'm subscribed through to November.

Does that mean I'm impacted from 1 June?

Will Woolworths be adding something else "in" to cover what is being withdrawn?

    • What do you propose they add in?

      • +3

They could boost the Woolworths component of the offer either in value or frequency of redemption.
It isn't like Woolworths isn't making money.

      • +5

That's up to them… If I've agreed to a contract where I've paid for $x value of benefits, and they're now removing $y amount, they're altering the terms of the agreement.

Granted they've probably put things like that in place in the T&C's to cover these changes, its a shitty move from a company that's making $739million in profit for the last 6 months of 2024 (https://www.abc.net.au/news/2025-02-26/woolworths-posts-20-p…), while they're already in the process of cutting jobs because their $739MILLION in profit isn't enough to satisfy shareholders.

The ordinary people working there and the consumers purchasing from them are the ones to suffer, because the people who have enough money to buy shares demand more profits at all other expenses.

10% off at uncle Dan's once a month would be alright. There's plenty of markup in liquor.

Merged from Everyday Rewards - Dropping Big W 10% Offer

    Just got this email:

We're writing to let you know that, unfortunately, from Sunday, 1 June 2025, the BIG W monthly 10% off discount will no longer be part of the Everyday Extra benefits.

You'll continue to enjoy these savings and benefits with Everyday Extra:

    • 10% off one shop every month at Woolworths, in store or online.
    • 2x Everyday Rewards points on every shop at Woolworths and BIG W, in store and online.
    • Extra Perks like freebies and promotions from time to time, as well as new subscriber-only deals from BIG W and other partners.

    Will you be keeping EDR?

Personally, yes. The savings at Woolies is worth it! Big W 10% was just a bonus for the every now and then purchases. I don't have a local Big W, its a 60 min round trip.

    Poll Result
    • Yes (11 votes)
    • No (0 vote)
    • Unsure (5 votes)
    • Don't have EDR (0 vote)

Value for this program used to be excellent. I didn't abuse it like some with multiple accounts, but it was worth holding as a 5 person household.
I'll keep it, but benefits are almost not there with all the cuts, and lower quality monthly rewards.

      Dropping Big W 10% Offer

      I shop at Kmart….

    • +1

Wondering when they will drop the 10% of WW monthly discount next lol

  • +4

Just got the email. I reverted to month to month recently. It's still probably worth it, though it makes you wonder what's happening to Big W and whether they'll be around for much longer. At present I use the Big W discount for books and Lego discount mostly, so they'll probably just lose my sales completely on those.

    • You didn’t buy enough Lego and books to make it worthwhile for them

  • +2

So lame. Got some great Lego deals with this.

  • +3

Value for this program used to be excellent. I didn't abuse it like some with multiple accounts, but it was worth holding as a 5 person household.

Much prefer BW now. Kmart has gotten rid of most of the good stuff I used to sell.

      • the good stuff I used to sell

You buy from Kmart and BigW and the resell elsewhere?

  • +3

Disappointed. The discount has been handy.

    • -2

Have you saved much over the last year?

      • +2

Probably just over 100 so it’s not too big a disappointment

        • I doubt I would have saved more than $10 over the last year there… But I do save around $80-$100 per month shopping at Woolies.

          • +1

@jv: How do you save $80-100 per month at Woolies if the maximum is 10% off $500?

            • +1

@Kenny Powers: Everyday Rewards and Everyday Mobile* gets you 2x10%

*The savings more than pay for the mobile service which is $170 per year.

              • @jv: Well played. Will have to look into Everyday Mobile myself

                • +2

@Kenny Powers: They've changed the rules now, so I think only monthly plans are eligible for the 10% off.

If you had a yearly plan last September, they have been grandfathered and are still eligible.

So if your shop spend is large enough, it may still be worth it and cover your monthly phone bill.

  • +2

Obviously a big drop in value for us but will also mean we aren’t going to Big W each month to spend… perhaps a money win from that angle!

Apparently they will be providing more offers…. Will keep membership to actually see if that happens and if not I will look to cancel the annual renewal due later in the year.

    • Cancel now and sign up later. Sends them a message. If everyone did that they'd think twice.

  • +7

When companies do this on subscription services they should be forced to cancel everyones sub unless the customer opts to continue …. these Subscriptions services always get diluted once they have a customer base…

    • +2

Not sure about others but the email i got gave me the option to cancel and get a pro-rata refund:

As you’ve requested, your subscription will end on Tuesday, 17 February 2026. If you’d prefer to cancel now and receive a pro-rata refund, visit the Everyday Rewards website or the Extra page in the Rewards app. You will need to reactivate your subscription first, and then you can cancel and select to receive a pro-rata refund.

      • Option to cancel is the opposite of what should be done. It should be option to continue.

        • +2

Agreed completely. If you want to enshittify your product, that's fine: but you should be starting from a blank-slate subscriber base and win them back. Quietly adjusting the product is taking advantage of subscribers who don't have time to look into the fine details of benefits every quarter, month or week that they could be "enhanced."

          • +1

@haemolysis: 100% and this imo isnt a small change.
Its what all subscription services do. Dilute it and hope people don't care enough to cancel. Should be laws inplace to protect consumers.

            • -2

@zerog101: You’re not advocating for laws to protect consumers, you’re advocating for laws to protect lazy idiots.

If people don’t cancel, that’s on them.

Do you also blame power companies when people leave the lights on in their house?

              • +2

@PainToad: Lazy, sure. But corporations shouldn’t be given the grace to take advantage of the lazy. It’s nothing like leaving lights on, it’s a change of terms of sale… blatant consumer exploitation. Of course protections should be in place to protect consumers from bait-and-switch.

                • -2

                  @haemolysis:

                  it’s a change of terms of sale…

Pretty much every on going offer or subscription will have a clause that allows for changes.

Including power companies who may change pricing or add/remove bonuses at their discretion.

It’s nothing like leaving lights on, it’s a change of terms of sale…

Power companies can change what they charge. Customers then have the option of leaving or continuing to pay the higher rate. It’s exactly the same.

Of course protections should be in place to protect consumers from bait-and-switch.

There are. The consumer is free to leave.

                  • +1

@PainToad: so no consumer protections then? becasue the consumer is lazy … got it……

                    • -2

@zerog101: It takes less than a minute to cancel a subscription if you no longer like what it's offering.

The consumer is protected. Just not babied.

                      • +1

@PainToad: Yeah, but we DO baby consumers.

I agree that it’s in the contract in fine print.
But contracts are not “whatever both parties agreed to goes.” Certain clauses are deemed simply invalid - typically any such clause which exploits consumers “reasonable expectations” are invalid and not enforceable.

I think most courts would find removing half the benefit of a subscription as not meeting the reasonable expectation of the customer.

I do agree it is babying. But I’d much prefer to see us babying the customer than exploiting them.

If the law was strengthened to protect them, we wouldn’t HAVE enshittification and everyone paying subscriptions for total garbage. We would have decent services.

                        • +1

@haemolysis: Yep, all subscription services take advantage of this and slowly water down their service until it’s no where close to what you originally signed up for. This guy wants less consumer protections ….. why???

                          • @zerog101:

This guy wants less consumer protections

                            Where did I say this?

I just want people to not be entitled little children with no responsibility for their actions (or lack of).

  • +3

Well, everything I've bought from big W since joining EE was something I'd still have bought at full price (or to put it another way, the competing products were always more than 11% more expensive) so giving me the discount did not benefit woolworths.

  • -5

Was loving the unlimited 10% off with new big w accounts.

    • +7

One of the reasons of these things being renoved. Abuse of the system

  • +2

Keeps on giving you less overall value, sure, but as long as you average a discount of at least $5.83~ with the 10% off per month over the whole year, it's still pays for itself and I'm not losing out on anything versus not having it, even disregarding bonus points and perks.

  • For some reason I was able to use the May discount code when I cancelled my Everyday Extra subscription last month…

    • +2

Yeah anyone with Everyday Rewards card linked could use the monthly code. Not what they intended but worked that way.

  • +1

    Thanks OP for the info

  • -3

    Another publicity stunt eye roll

    • +1

      What publicity stunt?

  • I stopped subscribing a while ago after the free items every month dropped massively in quality (last one I got before I cancelled was a travel bottle of head and shoulders). My flybuys account which I don't even shop at Coles for gave me a loaf of bread and like a $9 block of cheese for free and I'm not even subbed to anything with them.

    • That is how it works. The more loyal, the less they give you. You start shopping at Coles instead for a few months and it changes around.

  • +3

    Enshittification as its finest

  • +3

I never shop at BigW, and this was the only factor that made me go. I guess the people using the discount is making them less money then nobody shopping there at all.

    • +1

Definitely - basket sizes will shrink and people making the effort to go in once a month to use the discount on items will start to look elsewhere for these items (eg Amazon for cleaning products, Kmart for homewares/clothes etc)

  • BigL

  • +1

They should have done what JB did and got into appliances.
Or another option would have been bulk groceries like Costco, since the W in "Big W" is "Woolworths" so kind of means "Big Woolworths".

Situations reminds me of Catch and OnePass - taking away key component of the subscription.

  • +1

I wonder whether Financial Loss on BigW is why this has been removed - https://www.afr.com/companies/retail/woolworths-sales-growth…

  • +1

we mostly used this on tubs of Omo laundry powder

  • doesnt stack anymore??
    https://imgur.com/a/fNgDLAg

  • I am assuming you couldn't use this 10% off with Big W to load up on gift cards since they never allow it, but out of curiosity can you also not use Big W gift cards to buy the other gift cards they have on sale like the 10% off Ultimate Home cards?

  • Ours renews soon. Got an email saying the next payment will be $35 but if you log in it says itll be $70.
I reckon the fact the email says $35 and there has been no other follow up or amendments to that, you could argue and get $35 back.

    • Same situation here. I messaged them using the app and they said we would be renewed at $35. So I’ll wait and see. What they actually charge.

      • So my payment failed (expired card) but the email now says it's $70.
        Dodgy.

  • I just used the 10% off with a bunch of stuffs. Will miss BigW shopping
