35% off Velocity Points Purchase from $350.76 (Minimum 20,000 Points, Maximum 250,000 Points) @ Velocity Frequent Flyer

140

Purchasing points is usually the worst value, but if you need a slight boost to scoop up an ever so hard to find reward seat, this is not a bad deal.
I have purchased points from Velocity before and the points were credited immediately, but as per the T&C "allow for up to 72 hours for Points to arrive in your Velocity account."

From the Velocity Website: Receive a 35% discount when you buy 20,000 - 250,000 points on or before 8 May 2025.

Please note (as per some comments below), these transactions are denominated in AUD but are processed overseas so a foreign currency fee may apply depending on your card provider.

A few examples of prices of points

  • Anyone remember the old days where we'd sell 100k points to each other for $1000?

    • +2

      You still can

      • I gave it away when they threatened to shut everyone's account for "family transfers" fraud.

    • +1

Used to be cheaper when Virgin was going bankrupt.

      • Ah yes, I sold all my virgin points to buy gift cards….. Bugga

This is actually a good deal IMO. Considering Velocity points go for around 1.4c in the classifieds, 1.52c (100,000) is not bad and no risk of your account being affected.

  • +3

meh. 8.3% more expensive than it was in December. not negging but avoid unless you have an immidiate redemption available.

    • It was 40% off in December if you purchased the full 250,000. At least here it applies from 20,000 points upwards. Agree to only buy if you have a redemption available you want to redeem for.

      • sorry, what is this redemption that is being mentioned?

        • +1

When you try to get seat with your points. Two factors for redemption here: as cheap as possible (in terms of points) and if seat is available when you want it.

      • +1

But the price of Velocity redemptions has also increased since December - so overall it's not nearly as good.

    • +6

also keep in mind that the transaction will be processed at points.com in USD and therefore factor in exchange fee etc

  • Wish they would offer discounts similar to Air Canada for their Aeroplan (80-110% bonuses). Especially when their SQ award flights cost like ~60% of what Virgin Australia charges.

  • +8

It says pay in Aud but it is processed overseas So incur foreign exchange fee

250k Velocity Points = 161290 KrisFlyer points. 162k KrisFlyer points is enough to fly two people return in business class from Perth to South East Asia which would be much more than $3802.

Does that include taxes? It's the taxes that make using points almost worthless, relative to just buying a seat, especially when LCC are thrown into the mix. Now, if you're a pretentious yuppy, happy to waste 1000's in value for 24 hours of comfort, go your hardest. You are the ones airlines love. The actual value of most air points programs is figured on 1c per point. Paying more than that means they've conned you.

His Holiness talks potato (business class) and you talk tomato (LCC, cattle class, may or may not include luggage): not good comparison.

Where did you get "actual value" of 1c/point from ? All very subjective.
