    I am fairly sure the usual weekly dose of vitamin D is around 7,000 IU to maybe 14,000 IU. In have never heard of 50,000 IU being considered a weekly dose and would probably be closer to a 4-8 weekly dose.
    It turns out Vitamin D is fairly safe even in high doses but nonetheless I'd trust Australia's regulation of these products a lot more than an imported US product for advice on dosing.

      I would personally use 5000-10000 iU per day together with 100-200mcg K2.
      Get your blood Vit D3 checked to confirm you are within a healthy range

      These larger doses are safe as long as they are taken with other co-factors like K2 and Magnesium but I don't like these standalone large doses that don't include at least K2 as people aren't informed. Curtin University did a study in 2022 and found 95% of Australians are Vit D deficient and the Australian RDI is very low because if someone was deficient, and chances are that they are, then the repletion rate of 1000IU is absurdly slow and will take months to get to the bottom of the normal range let alone get you to the upper normal range. Vit D is also critical for T cell regulation and your immune system. My yearly hay fever went away when I got my levels up.     Cholecalciferol, also known as vitamin D3, is used as a rodenticide to control rats and mice.
    When ingested, cholecalciferol causes a life-threateningly high calcium and phosphorus level in the body, leading to severe, acute kidney failure, cardiovascular abnormalities, and tissue mineralization.

    The same thing can happen in humans when taking high enough doses (which is individual dependent).

      This is a bit misleading as it's a dose-is-the-poison issue. The rodenticide is somewhere between 11-83 milligrams per kg body weight. Each milligram Vit D is 40,000 IU which then is 440,000IU/kg to 3.32million IU/kg. A 70kg adult needs between ~30 million to ~232 million IU for a single lethal dose.

      That said, you are right about increased serum calcium if you don't take K2 AND you're taking high (20,000+ a day for an extended period).

        Be careful you don't overdose which won't necesserily happen in one go as vitamin d accumulates in your body. Get your levels checked before embarking on high dose vitamin d supplementation and regularly once/if you begin.

        Be especially careful with kids.

          Interestingly that accumulation study says: Although current data support the viewpoint that the biomarker plasma 25(OH)D concentration must rise above 750 nmol/L to produce vitamin D toxicity, the more prudent upper limit of 250 nmol/L might be retained to ensure a wide safety margin.

          Would be hard to get to 750!

          You're right about the accumulation, people need to get their levels checked and pull back once in a healthy range.

    AH here we go again.

    Person 1 (with no medical background and who has at best done surface-level research): OMG that dose is too high. Here is a link to the first study I could find that supports my viewpoint. Arguments ensue in the replies.

    Sorry if anyone feels attacked but this is pretty much the pattern I have noticed over the years from many Vitamin D3 deal/thread.

    This one looks legit as it has an official site. Always check who the manufacturer is when buying off Amazon, too many fake products. Ideally the manufacturer should have a certificate from a 3rd party lab to verify the claims.
