    $2,200 for a phone.. what?

    • -6

It's Apple. They charge what they feel like.

          • -1

@Maths Debater: Samsung et al. are not exactly babies to just ā€˜follow suit’ - they’re all maximising profits with their pricing…

I mean, no one is happy to pay $2200 for a phone (not that you have to, there are cheaper options from all manufacturers!).

This ā€œApple is the root of all evilā€ is getting old after >decade…

          • +3

@Maths Debater: You can bet that if Apple makes a phone where you can it up your ass and it comes out your mouth as a cool feature, Samsung will follow suit and do it as well.

            • @centrelink: Apple removed the included wired headphones, then the headphone jack, then the charging brick. Low and behold, so did the rest. Apple fanboys will never admit that though because they're too busy drinking their love juice.

        • +1

The Pixel is particularly egregious charging $2.2k for a rubbish 4nm Samsung fabricated SOC.

      • +1

Samsung do the same.. or have you forgoten they sell 3000 dollar samsung phones as well?

        • +1

That's exactly my point, because they copy Apple. Do you remember how the iPhone X saw a significant price jump and everyone lost their minds?

          • @Maths Debater: i wouldn't say they copy apple, apple dont' have foldable phones.

          • @Maths Debater: you mean apple took a risk to maximise their profit, the ā€œcompetitorsā€ instead of gaining the edge just profiteered with the hope of the gullible just blaming apple for starting it?

      • Why Apple charge less when they know people buy them anyways? Apple do have a fomular how to charge extra $200.

    • +5

Did you just wake up from a long sleep?

    • so how does this work exactly you just show officeworks the price on costco's website and just get 5% off?

    • same as last year for the 15… where have you been?

    • Blink twice if someone is holding you at gun-point to buy an Apple product

  • Do you have to have a Costco membership to price beat at Officeworks?

    • Depends on the store. They're wildly inconsistent. Best bet is to contact the Officeworks hotline.

    • +1

Would vary from store to store and employee to employee.. people have had different experience.. some stores have asked to see membership while some have just been successful with them opening the website on their devices.. and some stores have refused to price match altogether..
Sorry I couldn't give you a concrete answer.. it's truly a YMMV situation here..

    • I have just bought at 16 Pro via the Price Beat Hotline - they beat Costco - didn't ask for membership.

    • +1

Price matched at officeworks this morning, a little pushback from the staff at first but eventually came through.

  • +1

You would be pissed if you just price beat JB šŸ˜†

  • +1

Who is legit paying this month for a phone?

    • +3

What's wrong with May? On a more serious note, most people go on plans. Not everyone buys outright.

      • +3

Going on a plan, you're still paying for the phone… and an overpriced plan.

        • Depends how savvy you are. JB are giving a $1000 GC on the $99 plan. Sign up then cancel. As for the rest of the population, they don't look at the entire cost of the plan, they look at what they can afford per month. I say this because l used to work for Optus and Telstra. But I understand your point, which is different to mine.

        • Well yes, you pay off the phone monthly within the plan. Not everyone has $2K to purchase outright.

          • @itstuan: If you don't have $2k, you can't afford that phone, effectively taking a loan out for it is the height of foolishness.

    • i bought 3 so yeah, little gutted

  • +5

$320 for an extra 256gb lol

  • Tempted, my day 1 , 14 pro is on its last legs , wanted to wait for 17 but maybe can’t wait that long. Might try out 16 max

    • +4

      Thanks for sharing

      • sharing is caring

    • +13

How is a 2 year old iPhone on its last legs?

      • +3

Gonna say.. my 14 Pro even with 81% battery life is still alive and kicking.

      • +2

This. I have also have a 14 pro since it came out and does everything i need. if it's the battery life, then that's a $100 dollar fix.

      • +2

Yeah that makes no sense… I had an iPhone X for over 6 years and it never even got to that point

      • +1

Nah I mean i dropped it heaps and the battery is also stuffed

      • +1

My son is rocking my old 12pro 4yo phone with no issues still

        • +1

I am using the 12pro max and tried to convince myself its no good anymore but failed

    • Why would you go back for more punishment if it's on its last legs after 2 years?

  • +3

I bought the 1tb for 2099$ from the last costco deal šŸ˜†šŸ˜†

    • Wow. What deal was that. ?

      • +3

        the last costco deal

  • How does getting it beat at officeworks work? What will it be

    • 256gb $1879.99 - 5% = $1785.99
      Call the Officeworks hotline.

  • gutted I bougth at 2k

    • +4

You've already chosen to be ripped off buying an iPhone does it even matter

      • Buying something that works is not being ripped off. Buying something useless and paying $1500 is being ripped off. I bought 3. Because it matters to have a working phone

        • How about Americans paying assuming $4k after Trump tariffs?

  • +2

Got the Apple iPhone 16 Pro Max 256GB for the wife, thanks OP

  • +6

Get JB to price match Costco 256gb @ $1879.99

Then sign up on their $99 upfront plan, which includes the $1000 gift card which is used as credit toward the price of the phone.

    In store:
    $1879.99 - $1000 = $879.99
    You will need to sign up on their $99 plan upfront = $879.99 + $99 = $978.99

Contact telstra and ask them to cancel the plan, you're looking at $733.34

    Total cost will be $733.34 + $978.99 = $1,712.33

Yes, it's a bit of work to save $75 rather than simply price beating at Officeworks but I thought I would share regardless. Also note that you'll take a hit on your credit score.

    • +1

Best worluld be to price match with Costco at OW then pay with the 10% off gift cards from Coles offer. Final cost would be $1607.40

      • +1

I did that last year for the 15 pro max…. OfficeWorks were ok with it…. Don't forget flybuys with onepass…. I'm still getting $10 off offers on my shops at coles.

  • I hope iPhone Pro made in India will lower the price. It's crazy to pay for a bloody phone over than $1000.

    • +7

It's not going to lower the price for customers lol

    • +6

The cost of manufacturing has no direct relationship with how much Apple charges you for your iphone.

    • -2

iphones made in india will not have same quality control and hygiene levels of the factory workers will be terrible.

  • +2
  • Thanks for the tip OP. Got an iPhone 16 Pro 256gb for $1500 after price match at OW and buying 10% GC from Coles :)

    • Are you referring to the ultimate gc’s at coles? How did you buy more than 5 gift cards from them? And you exchanged about 35 $50 gift cards?

      • My local Coles has 3 exits to pay, 2 x self serve and 1 x operator. I just went through multiple times with different staff helping me.
It was brutal at OW opening, removing glue, etc. but the staff were great.

    • please share where you get those gift cards from and how. Thanks

  • Waiting for iPhone 17 Air Pro Max Ultra Slim variant

  • JB not price matching Costco? Says it goes against their policy
