  • Received the email, free $40

    • I don't see an email. When and what was the title?

      • NAME, get up to 10,000 Bonus Points when you Pay with Points

Just searched for Citi in my email and it was the most recent one

    • how many velocity points an I buy with these points?

  • So $20 redemtion, how many point they are deducting ?

    • +1

      5000 = $20

      It's essentially 2x free $20 claims

  • how long the bonus points will land in your account?

    • Their email said 30 days

    • I feel like this is basic info that OP should have included in the post…

  • +1

What's the point of this promo from Citi's perspective 🤨

    • +1

I'd say it's to get customers educated about the product who will be more likely to use it in the future.

Points balances are probably a liability on their balance sheet - by having customers run down their points balance, decreases their liabilities. IDK though, not an accountant.

    • Guessing they are getting customers who are likely to cancel the card soon to keep it for another couple of months, timing of it suggests until financial year end.

  • +1

    Redeem 5000 get 5000?

  • How do you redeem this? Is the offer targeted? I went to the cash back section within the app, and it said $50 was 20,000 points

  • Citibank offered me 2,000 reward points to compensate for not giving $200 cashback on the Cathay Pacific deal lol, didn't realise they're worth that little.

(Obviously denied the offer and requested the full $200, still waiting for it)

  • Looks like I only have the make the redemption during May, can be on an older transaction.
Waiting for my Chemist Warehouse cashback to come through.

    • I just redeemed one older transaction (already cleared last week), hopefully it works for this!

    • +1

Just apply the $20 on one of previous transactions that is listed and edit the amount to $20 to get the 5000 points back for May and June

  • +2

I just transferred everything to Velocity with the 15% bonus offer 😅

  • +1

    How is it a $50 gift card if 5000 pts = $20

    So $20 + $20 = $40.00?

And for best value you are better off finding a transaction for exactly $20? If it’s higher then you pay with more points but only get 5000 back right?

    • You get 5000 points per month. Transfer to flybuys and it's worth $50.

      • Can you then convert to flybuy dollars and spend at Coles?

        • Yes or get other gift cards through flybuys. For some reason it's better value that way. Citi wants 10500 for a $50 whilst flybuys is 10000 but they have less cards to choose from.

    • You can adjust how many points you want to pay for higher transaction. I just done that using Citi AU app.

  • So we buy something worth $20 each month, then pay it off with points?

No need to opt in etc?

Time to dust of the ole Payall accumulator.

    • I think we need to have received an email

  • +2

    is this offer targeted?

    • Check your email. I got it. Subject is:

"your name", get up to 10,000 Bonus Points when you Pay with Points.

  • Currently on the BT offer with Citi now, guess I cannot make a purchase to take advantage of this offer or I risk paying interests on the purchase…

    • I’m in the same situation. I think if you prepay your credit card it pays off the retail purchase before the BT amount so the the retail interest should only be applicable for a couple of days

      • I thought most banks no longer penalise people on BT offers nowadays? Is Citi still doing that?
It really doesnt make sense preventing cardholders from using the card on retail spending for the BT duration. I am not sure how that could benefit the bank either when the credit card essential become just an interest free loan facility.

        • You can use the credit card but it attracts a 20%+ interest rate as soon as you make the transaction as there is no longer interest free period.

You’ll be paying off the spend with points immediately so I think should be fine. I’ll test it this weekend to see

          • @Crowing: Yes I've been using credit cards for 20+ years, I understand what you are talking about. I've made this mistake with the very first BT I have applied. (Actually I can't imagine who won't, unless you have been given very good parental guidance on this topic.)
It is just I've been seeing more banks starting to allow you to spend on credit cards with BT while still preserving interest-free days for retail spending.

For example, with NAB BTs they specifically mentions that:

            Interest-free days on purchases
While you have an outstanding balance transfer, interest-free days on purchases only apply if you pay the interest-free days payment in full by the due date each month. This applies to both new and existing cards.

I checked on Citi's website, looks like indeed they are still doing it the traditional way, despite being under NAB here in Oz as well:

There will be no interest free days, this means all retail purchases will be charged interest at the applicable annual percentage rate

  • +1

Seems targeted as I didn't receive such email offer

  • Ok done for May, now need to set a reminder to use Citi card in June

  • Thanks OP, received email last night, planning to cancel card later this month so may as well make a redemption now!

  • Targeted?

  • Thanks for posting OP. I would've missed this otherwise!

  • +2

This must be targeted. I have a Citi Premier card but not received any emails about this offer.

  • Does the transaction need to be settled before you can select it for pay with points? I just spent $20 at coles and the transaction isn’t appearing as an eligible transaction. I have a balance transfer active on my card so not sure if that’s the reason though

    • +2

      Yes

    • Mine had to settle first. I bought a $20 ShopBack Giveaway Card.

  • Didn't get the email 😔

  • No emails probably because I have already been using Pay with Points.

  • free 2*$20, great!

  • How do we check we have recieved the 5000 points? Anyone recieved them yet?

    • +1

Up to 30 days after the transaction

      • Can we get a breakdown of reward points somehow? Or is it just the total it shows?

        • +1

I couldn't find a way to see this in the app but you can get the details you need when logging in using a browser.
After logging in click on "View Rewards Point Balance" on the bottom right. Then in the pop-up click on "Visit Rewards".
From there you can click on "Points Earned" or "Redemption Activity".

          • @DiscountDevil: Did you get a 5000 points earned line item? I don't see any in mine.

            • @chinaman: Not yet but as jscan said below, the terms and conditions seem to mention "within 30 business days from the end of the qualifying month.".
If I take that literally for the claim in May would that mean the latest we should expect it is Fri 11th July?

  • +5

Reminder for you guys to use your 5k Pay with points for the month of June!

  • Still not received the 5000 points after 31 days

    • Note, the T&C are "5,000 Bonus Points will be credited to your account within 30 business days from the end of the qualifying month."
      key word, business days.

Worse case scenario, send Citi a complaint, if they do not respond and address within 72 hours, complain to https://www.afca.org.au/

  • Question : as we are starting June month, is the transaction that we paid by points has to be in June or we can pay by point of May transaction ?

  • Reward Point whizzes need your help!

I need some help converting the Citi Prestige reward points the ozbargain way. See my calculations below to see if it is correct or not for the best case for me before I cancel the card

I have 456,976 Citibank reward points.

I based it roughly on this spreadsheet here to figure the best value

Converting to Velocity points to use for economy domestic flights (missed out the bonus 15% transfer)
    - Converts to 228,488 velocity points
    - Doesn't seem to be good value as it costs approximately $90 in tax and fees return for my usual flight where I can get tickets for approx $150 return
    - @11,800 Points per usual return flight = 19 return trips ($1710 in fees) = $2850 saved but turns into $1,140 of value after taking away fees
    - Not considering business as I don't need fly business for short domestic flights

Converting to Velocity points for buying gift cards (missed out the bonus 15% transfer)
    - Converts to 228,488 velocity points
    - 20k points = $100 gift card roughly = 11.42 x $100 gift cards = $1.14k in gift card value

Converting to Flybuy for buying gift cards
    - Converts to 456,976 fly buy points
    - 20k points = $100 gift card = 22.8 x $100 gift cards = $2.28k card in value (in promotions can get more value)
    - Can change to various types of gift cards when I need to use
    - Can't get Amazon gift cards which is what I will use mostly on

Converting straight into gift cards via Citi
    - Gets 2.19k in gift cards (but this includes Amazon gift cards which you can't get from Flybuys)

Overall it sems the best option for me is combination of like $500 in Amazon gift cards via Citi rewards and do rest in Flybuys points where I can redeem gift cards when there are promos?

    • Note: I get unlimited free groceries so won't likely use Flybuys at coles, so may convert to random gift cards to use here and there

      • I get unlimited free groceries

Now there's a deal post worth posting :)

Also your Google sheet isn't accessible

      • yeah mine as same converted to GC (mostly ebay)

  • +2

I got my 5000 bonus points for the May month.

    • Can you check this anywhere in the App? Or can only be done from the website?

Does it show as a separate line item in Points Earned section?

      • +1

It has not shown in the points earned list yet, but I noticed it in the balance.

        • You really have to monitor it right? Can't reconcile! Bl0udy citibank!
          Crappy app . Crappy website

  • I got the email, performed the redemption in May, but no points awarded yet.
Have just done the redemption for June and now waiting.
Not too worried as I have the email, but it'll just be a complete PITA if I have to contact them to follow up.

  • +1

I got the 5000 points on 3 Jun. You can see it in the app. Click to the total points, then it will tell you points history. Points earned this statement : 5000. Click at Redemption History, it will tell you the dates.

    • Are you on Android by chance? I'm on iPhone, clicking the total points doesn't give points history (in fact, not much is clickable, only thing I can see on the app is the redemption history). But I logged in on desktop and when I checked "Rewards/Points Earned", there's no 5000 points anywhere for the last couple of months (I did redeem once per month in May 13th and June 12th as showing in "Rewards/Redemption Activity" (Pay with Points, 5000 each to pay)

      • Yes, I am with Android. Did you activate the offer previously ?

        • Yes, I did. Just have to chase them I guess :(

          • @hanofee: If you open your pdf statement there should be a section that says "your rewards points summary". There's a line that says bonus points earned this statement period which for June should say 5k.

  • Just a heads up, once you cancel your prestige card you lose priority pass a few days later.

  • Anyone else (apart the comment above) can confirm if they received the 10k bonus back? If yes, does it come as 10k at once, or 2x 5k points?

    • get 5,000 Bonus Points each month for a total of 10,000 Bonus Points

  • Has anyone got their points yet?
    I haven't received either 5k back yet.

    • Yes for last month but not this month

      • Thanks for the confirmation. I'll send them a message.

  • Was the offer originally in the email? If yes, what's the subject? Or was it in the app, if anyone could share me the screenshot? I definitely got this offer (actually was thinking to post on ozb back then, got busy and Op already did), but forgot whether it was email or app and just couldn't find it anymore in my email as a proof for their support to investigate.

  • Remember to keep an eye out for you 5000 bonus points for the June month.

Redeeming & then closing after that. Gotta find another to churn!

  • +3

June bonus points lobbed in today.

    • Yep I think mine arrived too

    • Yep, arrived today.

  • +1

Anyone able to see the 5000 points on the Rewards Points Earned on the website?
I got so many bonus points listed but can’t see he 5000 points on the list.

    • +1

Nup - they just 'appear' for me.

      • +1

Ok so they put it in but not listed there

  • Same, June points received

  • After I raised a complaint, they finally investigated, and said that yes, I had the offer and did the necessary action. Somehow the system didn't credit the points, so they applied manually for the month of May. The problem, as they do it manually, they mark it as "goodwill gesture" and they can't do any other goodwill gesture when I really need it on the same month (as I happened to miss my payment). Also, I need to wait until early Aug, for the June one and potentially need to call again, if it doesn't get credited automatically :(
