Been a while since I've seen Whittaker's on sale - ideally this would be $5 per slab - but 31c extra is good enough for me….

I just checked $8.50 must be only in your area .
Yeh it said out of stock for my area but had stock in store
Mind sharing which store? I love that flavour
Cadbury also have a coconut block, definitely worth a try when it goes on special
@reactor-au: Cadbury always makes my throat scratchy, don’t know what they add to it but it is only Cadbury’s that does it.
@Flying Ace: In that regard is maybe Cadbury remove a lot of the cacao butter which makes it less silky than something like lindt or haighs, usually cheaper chocolates remove a lot of the cacao butter.
That flavour being coconut mango, not just coconut
"White mango & coconut" is not the coconut block.
What in the world is a white mango?
Doesn't mean anything unless you share the store…
Baldivis!
My local Foodland sells this for$11. Bigger crooks than the big two
No, the big two just have excellent bargaining power and economies of scale.
There's a reason they're the default two choices.
Yeah, the reason is they charge just enough to keep entrants out, while still bleeding us dry.
That's called optimal pricing. Everyone does it. You're just trying to make it sound bad.
If they charged more, someone would undercut them and the produce wouldn't sell (and this get wasted).
If they charged less, they'd be accused of predatory pricing and trying to crush their smaller competitors, and they'd make even smaller margins while they're at it.
If you've decided someone is the and guy no matter what they do - while you enjoy consuming their products - you should reconsider if they're bad, or if you just thirst for a boogeyman.
Best flavour? Time to use my 10% off before they remove it in June..
Depends what you’re into.. peanut butter goes alright though.
They're removing it?
For big w
Im all for hazelnut variants. Their peanut bar is really good too. Coconut based deserts are not really my thing.
The Bundaberg ginger crossover was lit
I miss that, I haven't seen it in ages
Shame they don't stock mango coconut
Last month a Big W in metropolitan Adelaide had mango & coconut on clearance for $4.25 (in store only, product not searchable online).
Woolworths Thornlie Square WA had the mango coconut on clearance but it was sold out.
Just snaffled a mango coconut in nearby Woolworths Forest Lakes, $3.40. Plenty left. No tag saying it's on clearance. It just scanned at $3.40. I had a "start the car!" moment. Not sure if any other varieties were reduced.
How much stock left in Forest Lakes? Thornlie Square is the closest to me so I might take a look today
You know the little boxes they come in from the manufacturer? At least one of those, so perhaps 10 blocks in Forest Lakes as of yesterday arvo.
Thanks! That hazella is really something.
I was just minding my own business… but I prefer Coconut and Hokey Pokey flavours.. Hazella is good too though.
Hazella + Honey Nougat and Almond my top 2
Got coconut, hazella and peanut butter 👍
Wow that looks like full price
Yea…Maybe in 2020.
You have to pay for quality.
And government money printing
What?
Can neither confirm or deny that I ordered 6 blocks 😊
Only six?! Your power is waning young padawan
jeez. it's that good?
Best supermarket chocolate in Australia imo. Tony's chocolonely close second but it has a more ethical supply chain
but it has a more ethical supply chain
But worse flavour/texture in any case. Nothing compares to Whittaker's, not even Swiss/German chocolates hold a candle to Creamy Milk, Coconut Block and Hazella. It's kind of ridiculous how little competition Whittaker's have, everything else (especially Cadbury garbage) just tastes like a watered-down sugar paste with piss weak cocoa flavour by comparison.
thanks. this is the most delicious supermarket chocolate I've ever bought!
I know there are more varieties in the big blocks, but Coles currently have the small 50g 'slabs' at $1.25
Thanks. Now I know where my last BigW 10% off is going. The peanut butter ones are just too damn good.
Did everyone get the note that they're cancelling the everyday extra for big W and you'll only have it for Woolies?
Yes :(
Ends Saturday 31 May. Make sure you use the last one before then. Its cause Big W is losing money
For dark chocolate lovers, the dark Ghana is really good
No flavour beats plain old creamy white.
Meant to say creamy milk.
Reminds me of those giant Whitmans sampler boxes that used to be everywhere, havent seen them in a while
I remember them, and the Whitmans blimp flying around Sydney
Nice! Thanks OP. Was waiting for quite some time for them to come down to ~5$. Fingers crossed order does not get cancelled. If not, wins: best price, wide range, mother's Day gift, stocked for winter.
My order has already shipped 9am this morning 6 blocks and a switch game 😂
Happy times ahead!
Been a while since I've seen Whittaker's on sale
It's often on sale in NZ.
do amazon ever price match big w or just colesworth?
Wish they had the Oat Milk Chocolate… don't want any stolen breast milk from cows in my chocolate.
Dark Ghana is included. Personally I find it a wee bit bitter, I wish they had the Oat Milk like you said.
Thanks! I didn't know about that one. Quite like dark chocolate. Will give it a try to see how it compares to Aldi and Lindt 70%
let us know !
It's more sugary: Whitaker 27% × 17% Moser Roth
Personally, I'd stay away from Lindt's heavy metals… but you do you.
@wisdomtooth: mmmm cadmium… man, a LOT of dark chocolate were high in heavy metals… they didn't test Moser Roth or Whitaker, so who knows…
I wonder what is going to kill us first. The heavy metals, the 4 bottle caps of microplastics inside our brains or some other crazy stuff we're subjected to…
@deejaygrub: There's a statement from Whittaker's here, about their compliance with NZ Food Safety Standards, but it's still too early on a Friday morning for doing the maths to see whether it checks out:
https://supermarketnews.co.nz/news/lead-levels-in-dark-choco…
Relevant paragraphs:
The Codex standard for Lead is 0.8mg/kg of cocoa for products containing less than 70 percent cocoa and 0.9 mg/kg of cocoa for products containing more than 70 percent cocoa. New Zealand has a food standard for cadmium in chocolate/cocoa of 0.5mg/kg of cocoa. According to the Consumer Reports article, the highest lead level found in the US was 265% of their limit, equating to 1.35mcg/day. Assuming the stated serving size of 30g, then the highest lead content in the chocolate would have been 0.04mg/kg.
“Whittaker’s undertakes regular testing to ensure our products comply with all relevant NZ food safety standards. In light of the Consumer Reports findings released late last year, we undertook some specific additional laboratory testing of our Whittaker’s Dark Chocolate (including 72% Dark Ghana, 86% Ghana Extra Dark, 92% Ghana Intense Dark, 70% Samoa Smooth Dark) and are pleased to report that this confirmed compliance with the food safety standards.
It doesn't have the portion label. How many blocks can you have a day? lol
those lines that create block is an intelligent way of giving us less chocolate. I prefer this no boundry version. :)
is this best price or do they go for 50% ?
They don't go 50% off. Seldom on special, and considering 'new' inflated pricing (as with many products). Perhaps ~18-24 months ago they were very cheap (once off) - perhaps $3.75 ish, but that has never happened before/since.
I wish we got the jelly tip flavour in AU
Coconut Block 🤤
