50% off nbn Plans for 6mths When Bundled with Energy Supply (+ Free 12mth Paramount+ Standard) @ Origin via Phone (Excl. NT)

1120

Just moved my gas over to Origin and gave them a buzz to see if they had any broadband deals going. Turns out they’re currently offering 50% off all NBN plans for 6 months, plus 12 months of Paramount+ included.

It’s a phone-only deal, and you need to have an eligible energy plan (either gas or electricity) with them.

Applies to both new and existing customers. No lock-in contracts either. Here are the current plan prices:
• 25/10 – $41.50 for 6 months, then $83
• 50/20 – $47.50 for 6 months, then $95
• 100/20 – $52.50 for 6 months, then $105
• 100/40 – $55.00 for 6 months, then $110
• 250/25 – $60.00 for 6 months, then $120
• 1000/50 – $65.00 for 6 months, then $130

Static IP is $5/month if needed – otherwise, you’re behind CGNAT.

What is CGNAT?

CGNAT, or Carrier-Grade Network Address Translation, is a technology used by Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to manage the limited number of IPv4 addresses available. It allows multiple customers to share a single public IP address by translating their private IP addresses into that public one, enabling them to connect to the internet.

Origin uses Superloop’s infrastructure, so performance should be solid. https://www.superloop.com/blog/superloop-wins-landmark-broad…

Not sure how long the deal will run, so if anyone hears it’s ended, please drop a comment!

    $60 for 250/25 is a great price.

    • +5

For $5 more a month, you get 1000/50 though.
Origin use Superloops network I think?

      • Correct

  • +10

    Expensive after 6 months

    • +1

There will be plenty more options with the speed upgrades in september you can leave whenever you want

      • +1

They’re banking on people staying after 6 months and not bothering to switch. Personally, not a fan of origin. And don’t like it when energy companies provide internet deals as they have bad service that’s not specialised . Best to stick with an internet specialised company

        • +1

Superloop run the infrastructure, you will almost never need to call them. Each to their own.

          • -1

@SpeedAU: Haha if it’s super loop then it’s great

          • @SpeedAU: If Superloop, it requires 30 day notice if I remember correctly unless they set that differently.

        • +1

I was with Origin and their service was great, they were with Aussie broadband back then I think. Superloop is ok as well when I tried their service, the only neg from superloop was the 30 day notice before cancellation which I referred them to the TIO for.

I will probably take this deal from Origin soon.

          • @pao2x: I dont think TIO would do anything abt contractual disputes. Usually cancellation notices are clearly stipulated in the PDS and forms a valid contract once you sign up. Did TIO do you any favour?

            • +3

@truetypezk: They did not have to. Superloop withrew the bill. And so has everyone else that had the 30 day cancellation policy without a prorata refund, tangerine etc. Just mention fees for no service. I cannot remember all of them

              • @pao2x: I had a bad experience cancelling Tangerine. I was on a discounted rate and tried to cancel before that ended but actually paid full price for an extra month that I didn’t even get service for. Would it be too late to ask for this money back, considering it was over a year ago?

Can opt out from CGNET for dynamic public up, for free?
    Need port forwarding

    • I've seen on Whirlpool some people have been successful

    • +2

I've been with Origin NBN for the past two months on 1000/50, and it's been solid. I'm consistently getting speeds around 925/45 Mbps straight to the router, with virtually no packet loss. When I signed up, I requested a dynamic IP—no CG-NAT—and they set it up without any hassle. For $65 a month, I really can’t complain.

      • +1

        great feedback

      • I signed up online and customer support doesnt seem to know what CGNAT is. How did you ask for dynamic IP?

        • I signed up via a phone and requested a dynamic IP at sign up. The person I was dealing with knew exactly what I meant and put a note on my account requesting dynamic IP.

  • Do i need to be on there energy plan to continue getting 50% off as it is relatively expensive

    • You will loose the discount if you leave electricity or gas. I have my Electricity elsewhere but my gas is with Origin, so if i moved my gas the i would move my internet plan also as it would be full price

      • Deal killer.. I'm with Origin electricity (200$ bill credit offer) but will probably churn away next 2 - 3 months, once theres a new $200 credit deal out with someone else… having NBN linked to utilities is massive pain in the ass to save $10 (can get 100/40 for $65pm)

        • This deal is only good for people willing to churn after 6months and that are happy with their energy. Personally Gas works out well for me previously was with Red Energy. I would never do electricity with Origin.

          • @SpeedAU: Electricity rates were not too bad and got $200 credit (2 months free) so no brainer.. but i plan to churn away once that runs out.. Gas on the other hand was expensive.. 40% more than cheapest GloBird, and they offer zero incentives so not sure what you find so appealing.. perhaps ur area is more competitive

            • @Gavman: Interesting obviously this depends on who provides gas infrastructure. I always use www.wattever.com.au for comparison across all brands.

              • +2

@SpeedAU: I use https://compare.energy.vic.gov.au/ its Vic Gov own funded site, no affiliation to any retailers - VIC of course.

WATTever looks ok if outside of VIC but they currently receive referral fees from

                Amber
                Dodo
                Energy Locals
ENGIE (the new name for Simply Energy)
                iO Energy
                OVO Energy
                Powershop

You may want to consider that if you keep using WATTever - eventho they say they rank plans impartially

  • -1

Origin electricity plan is $20 more expensive per month compared to AGL that I am with currently, so the plan doesn't work out that cheap.

  • Same prices as the More / CBA mortgage discount (effectively $44 off any speed) - I'm on 100/20 for $52 now.
Will see if Origin still offer this when my 3 year deal expires.

  • No lock-in contracts either

Does this means its a month to month contract that I can leave after 6 months?

    • you can cancel/leave any time.. probably have to pay out the rest of the month.. if you u cancel 2.5 months in, they will charge u for 3 months.. so youd wana manage canceling at the end of the bill cycle, is my guess

  • Just called and signed up.. Guy said the promo ended on 31st of March but they would still honour it for me.

  • +1

Just called and signed up, thanks OP

  • So who you call when the internet drops out? Origin or Superloop?

    • Origin

    • The changeover happened automatically from Superloop to Origin (just noticed that, and thanked to Twix's advice re DHCP setting which is the same because Origin uses … Superloop)

  • Skipped this deal last time, but might try it this time. Although I still have about 5 months left on my More/CBA promo. Might wait to see if More NBN roll out the offer again for 2025/26.

  • I just got told they couldnt do the offer anymore :(
But for anyone else who might have better luck and are going from Exetel - remember exetel requires 30days notice so ask the new service to be started in 30 days. Origin guy confirmed they could do that

    • +3

Phone up again, it looks like it depends who you get. It's still a valid promotion

      • +1

Yeah cheers. I called again and got it. Guy said ‘let me check if you’re eligible’

  • +2

Just called up and signed up for the offer. Can confirm this is a phone-only offer as the best offer I can get online is no where close.

But just wonder, what do we need to do on our side, besides calling up Origin? I'm currently with Superloop, and they have this 30-day notice clause in their critical information summary document. But in the call with Origin just now, the operator told me I don't need to do anything else. I'm quite confused—do I need to call Superloop to cancel the plan by myself? Or the two companies can sort it out by themselves?

    • You need to cancel your plan with Superloop, (Call them) the will give you a 30day notice then you ask origin to connect you 1 day the end date Superloop give you

      • I didn't think about the 30 day notice from Superloop so asked Origin to connect straight away when brought service over tonight

        • In all honesty, call Superloop and proactively cancel again.

I checked with Origin if I need to call Superloop as well, and the operator said "though we've done everything on our end, you'd want to call Superloop up to make sure". Which I did, and turned out Superloop didn't know I was cancelling. Explained the situation and appreciated their service and asked nicely for a waiver for the 30-day notice. Operator was kind enough to waive it.

If you don't call Superloop, in my experience they'd most likely charge you for the extra month as the 30-day notice.

      • Thanks! Let me update:

tl;dr—ask nicely, and they'll waive the 30-day notice.

I called Superloop straight after I signed up for Origin. I was being nice and honest with them that Origin has a better value deal—operator tried to keep me with alternative deals though. Ended up telling me that there's a 30-day notice, where I politely asked is it possible to get a waiver on this. Operator was kind enough to waive it for me, except for charging me one extra day, which I'm totally fine with.

        • Nice, do u think tpg would do the same

    • How do u find superloop as an isp. Is it good btw

  • +1

Phone call deal? No thanks. Good prices but I CBF calling in to sign up.

    • -3

I bet you used to skip using condoms too.

  • I was on 100/20 and shortened my contract. At night I was having issues with any kind of streaming. I’m with Spintel now and it has been a breeze. I’m paying $80 and 250 vs under $50 though.

  • hi, need help. Just brought 1000/50 service over from Superloop, what should I do with setting for my Google Nest Pro please?

    • +1

Update the Google Nest Wi-Fi Pro WAN settings to DHCP. If it's already on DHCP you don't have to do anything.

      • +1

        thank you, will try

      • +1

It changed over automatically, thank you :)

        • +1

All good. With some providers you don't have to change anything. TPG for example still uses PPPoE with a username & password.

  • Question to any Origin gas customers: do they charge something called a 'service fee'? I can't see it listed.

I see gas usage rates (per unit) and a daily supply charge. In WA the gas usage rates on their best plan are 50% discounted from the 'standard rate'.

I'm currently with AGL who discount both the gas usage and the supply charge, but by a lower percentage. And they add a daily 'service charge', which basically eats up the discount on the supply charge. Time to switch, I reckon…

    • +1

check out www.wattever.com.au put your gas bill in see what it spits out it's super accurate for me.

    • +1

I see you're in Perth. I am with AGL now for gas supply. No, they don't charge a service fee. I did a careful comparison between them, Kleenheat and Alinta. AGL was the cheapest for me (modest usage). And if you have WW Everyday Rewards, there is/was a sign-up bonus.

      • AGL was the cheapest when they did 50% discount. Then that reduced to 41% discount last year. Now they reduced it to 35% discount. Time to move on :-)

It's only $30 less a year for me with Origin (using the link by @SpeedAU). But combined with the savings on NBN costs, it's enough for me to jump ship.

I use very little gas these days. Only for hot water. And once my old hot water system breaks, or subsidies for heat pumps increase enough, I'll switch off gas for good.

Edit: Tip, that comparison link asks for energy consumption in MJ. Probably the unit they bill gas in over East. Our bills in WA show kWh. Multiply what you see on your WA bill by 3.6 to get an accurate conversion.

        • Sorry, I made a mistake in my post. I am with Origin Energy now. They're the cheapest for me. Not sure why I typed AGL!

  • Paying $75 for 250/25 as is, is it really worth switching electricity for $15/mo?

Esit: their plans are way higher prices than elsewhere for my electricity network, not worth it in my case. 12% below gov pricing when you can get easily 20%+ below

  • Not sure that the "Excl. WA & NT" in the thread is correct. I am in Perth and received this same offer a few months ago sent to my email.

  • I'm currently on a EV plan with AGL and have cheap nightly rates to charge my car. Does anyone know if Origin offer something similar? Am interested in switching over because I currently use Superloop internet and would like to get 50% off internet plan.

    • they do but limited to Tesla and BMW or sth

  • Called and was rejected. Was told promotion only for existing customers and has expired.
    Leapel here I come.

    • i was a brand new customer so id say call again

    • +1

GAH typo, only for NEW customers. I am existing and get $10 a month discount.

    • He said no first then he spoke to his supervisor and gave me the deal. Just call again and politely ask

  • Just tried - those on the 12c fit not eligible (only standard plans…)

    • oh right what if you have gas?

  • Noob q but how does it work if old isp - TPG- requires 30 day notice to cease there nbn plan and move to origin/ superloplool

    • +1

you tell tpg your leaving they will give you a date the connection will stop you then ask origin to set the connection date on the date tpg has given you.

      • Thanks

    • +1

Not sure if it applies to TPG—I was with Superloop and wanted to switch to Origin after seeing this post. Called up Superloop and explained the situation, nicely. The operator was kind enough to waive the 30-day notice. Trick is to ask nicely. You should try that and see.

      • Thanks will try

  • cgnat often messes with nba league pass - presumably when a different subscriber also is using the same shared public IP.

  • Origin offers gas in WA, so if only gas is required and not both electricity and gas, then this deal should be valid for WA as well. The title was updated to say Exc WA but that should probably be removed.

    • +1

I said the same earlier. I was emailed this offer a couple months ago.

  • -1

    Origin Energy sucks

  • I have been on this plan for 4 months or so and the internet speed is indeed ultra fast and stable; unlike what a a couple of the other big players claim they can provide.

  • +1

Thanks OP. I just phoned and signed up!
Reading other comments, it might be dependent on who picks up your phone but I got the offer without any hassle.

    Sounds like a great deal!

  • +1

Just called them and signed up !! Thanks OP. Great Find !! Trying 1000Mbps first time !!

Meanwhile called up Exetel to cancel and I said I dont want to continue for another month and the agent talked to the manager and got it approved ! So thats done and dusted !

  • They also have an offer for an Everyday Rewards bonus of 25,000 points for me at the moment. Planning to try calling them tomorrow and see if we can get both deals.

    • Was dat on the everyday rewards app

    • Alsp please keep us updated

    • i asked this, thats online only deal…it was either or….but let us know good luck

    • How did you go? Could you get both deals?

  • +1

I did my calc and found this very half price deal is better value. In the phone call with Origin, the operator confirmed that this deal cannot be stacked with any other deal like bonus everyday rewards points, which I also see in my Origin app.

  • Anyone know if this also applies to Opticomm plans?

    • Yes, it does. I called up today, and was able to sign up for the deal with an Opticomm plan.

      • Whats an opticomm plan

  • I've been with Vodafone since 2018, paying $30 monthly (after bundle and save and other discounts) for 50/17. If prices come down further or if the difference is small enough, I'll jump… Although I wish I could get 250 or 1,000 Mbps, the cheap price I have makes me want to stay.

    • you never save long term with bundle deals. If your mobiles are anymore expensive then $18 dollars a month you're paying too much

      • Fair enough, I’m paying $29 per month for the mobile sim. And I like the $5 roaming and Zone 1 international calls etc. What do you think?

        • Bad choice still, boost mobile is only $20 a month, give you pretty much free roaming and international call, also far superior network. Just don't tiktok all your data in the first week.

          • @lgacb08: But that's $20 for the first month not ongoing

            • @imaxsameer: The 12 month one regularly goes on sale for $230, that's less than $20 a month. Optus vmno even less than that if you don't need roaming pack.

  • +1

Just called and they refused. Said this was an old offer and no longer available ☹️
