Had bloody 'Thermometer' bookmarked since was looking for one of these.. kept getting random deals (But would check the IHT-1P each time, though) and its finally on sale again! Seems every 4-6 months it comes up. Had good reviews from previous threads so took the plunge!

Also, before you say it, I know I could have got it on AliExpress / you know what it mean, but wheres the fun in that.

Amazon:

    Digital meat? Like fish fingers?

  • Could this be used for milk, oil, etc?

    • Yep

    • Yep

    • I use it to boil water for tea and coffee…

It is awesome. I turn it off exactly at 100°C….

      No more extra hot coffee…

      • At what point do you turn off?

        • As soon as it hits 100°C, turn it off

Perfect tea & coffee every time…

Incredible that you manage to catch the water at exactly 100c - so skillful!

        • +3

I don't know how I managed to make tea & coffee before without my Inkbird !!!

@jv: I would recommend, to save time, bringing a big pot of water to a boil at the start of the week, checking it with your Inkbird thermometer to stop it just at 100c, and then freezing whatever you don't use so you can use it throughout the rest of the week!

    • It works for cannabis infused coconut oil.

  • Yep works great, very happy with this and purchased another one recently after someone dropped mine and top rubber bit broke off - thermo kinda gets untethered, thinking about it now I probably could have just glued it back in place, whelp guess I could do that now and have a backup.

  • Works great and I love the USB charging

Seems like alot of inkbirds stuff is on sale

    • It's almost like their biggest market is acting irrationally and they are looking to replace their demand.

      • +1

        Primary market is "cooked".

P.s. how do i check my bear meat doesn't have worms

  • +1

Great thermometer. Keep it away from induction hobs.

  • +1

The wirless ones are much better amd better deal

    • Depends what you’re doing. How/why are you going to use a wireless one for jams and custards?

  • Works real good.

I am critical of everything I buy, and after a few years of having this don't have a bad thing to say. It's good even in minor ways such as not having any parasitic power drain. I think I've charged it once when I bought it and never since, doesn't get used much but doesn't drain it's battery doing nothing like many other things do

    • Yeah I've had mine stuck to the fridge for years, it doesn't get a lot of use but the battery is still holding charge and I reckon I've only recharged it once.

    • I am also critical if everything I buy. I've had one of a year. It's… okay.

Good is that it's got a longish probe and backlighting for night time BBQ use.

Meh is that it's noticeably slower to take a reading than my other thermometer (it's a small thing but it's annoying) and that the mechanical tolerances are not a priority - it takes a lot more force than necessary to wrench the probe out than there should be.

It's good for the price, but overall it's not a joy to own. It's a bit like free IKEA hex keys versus a Wera set. Both do the job, one is a joy to use and the other is not.

I reach for my other thermometer every time unless I'm using the BBQ at night.

  • Have this thing and at changed my life, I don't cook any meat now without checking internal temp.

Don't get it wet, but if you do then leave it in the sun and it might be OK.

When you go to charge it, if the charger is too 'high powered' it won't work (my 30W phone charger doesn't seem to charge it).

    • +1

I have similar problems when charging a Uni-T device using a 20W phone charger. Some of the chargers seem too smart to provide legacy 5V without negotiating output voltage like phones do. It charges fine from a USB hub for example.

      • Yeah I plugged mine into my PC after troubleshooting everything else and it started charging finally.

  • Totally rate this.
    Game changer for meat cooking

      ..and water boiling…

  • Love this, I got the one a few bucks extra that comes with the probe cord, you can even set it to beep at a certain temperature. Great for sticking in a piece of meat that's in the oven, there are bluetooth ones but I think this does a good job.

    • Both have their uses, this one is great for things where you can trust the temp it's being cooked at, the bluetooth ones are great if you're using wood/charcoal since you can monitor internal/external temps.

I used this once to measure the temperature of my meat. hospital told me not to do that ever again.

    • That sounds interesting, please elaborate.

      • +3

Well you see, the meat was a perfect 36.5 degrees. The rest was a blur. Thank for for Medicare

      • Definitely sounding like something

  • -1

    It's not instant.

    • +2

      Oh, your that guy…

instantly readable meat thermometer responds in 3-6 seconds

      • Thermapen one is instant!

      • +1

I'm also that guy. This thermometer is bloody slow compared to my other one. Side by side, the difference really is mildly annoying.

What's the point of an instantly in LED screen if you have to stare at it watching the number fluctuate.

    • That’s what she said!

  • I've bought 2 in the past and both died within 6 months. (Stopped charging)
    What am I doing wrong?

    • Most likely the charger being used is high powered. Need the old school slow chargers around 5-10W

  • I can't comment on the brand but if you really want to up your cooking game you really need something like this as so many things just get cooked too long, e.g. chicken breast being the classic victim.

Recipe - pound to a common thickness, coat with flour, add seasonings of choice, and then 2/3min per side in oil to no more than 70C or so as it will cook a bit longer after you pull it from the pan. 75C absolute MAX. Personally I pull at 65C-ish give or take and it still comes out at about 72C after standing.

  • Having owned both this one and their upgraded version IHT-1S I actually prefer this one as the charging point is less annoying and the tactile button means you're not always accidentally swapping between C and F.

  • I have one of this kits -works real good and magnets on the back are very handy

  • Great kit. Love mine.

  • Thermapen is the gold standard

  • Just finished eating a fillet, barbequed to perfection using my Inkbird.

    Best BBQ tool ever.

  • it will cost ~$10 more but I prefer the one with temperature alarm for semi-AFK stockpot boiling

ThermoPro Brand, without Bluetooth but doesn't need phone to configure alarm
    lnkbird brand, with Bluetooth

  • Where was this deal at Xmas when I needed it?

  • Saying $39

    • Says 1 left, and still at that price… incog?

      And now OOS

  • +4

    There's now a 30% coupon available on top of the $18.99 price - making it $13.29 …!!

    • thanks, updated.

  • Is this not the better buy with 2 probes so you can check ambient temp as well?

    https://amzn.asia/d/60HiSJn

    • Price difference

  • damn it I bought the wireless probes for $99 cause this was out of stock

    • Might be able to refund still…?

      • but I've just opened it up and it's so nice and shiny..
