Got the non-floodlight version, the wide angle is really good.

Some fat neighbor boy kept ringing my bell then running back to his house halfway down street on other side and the camera still got it.

      At least he was exercising…

    • Do the in-built lights provide usable brightness?

        • Comment was for Kommodore and his experience with the white LEDs on the non-floodlight version

      • Yep, I use it as my motion activated floodlights for the front porch. I would have preferred yellow light but I can't complain about the brightness.

        • I think the white is used as its better to pickup details…. I did think of macgyvering some cellophane over the LED's but they are rather close to the lense so I put it in the too hard basket for now.

    • kept ringing my bell

Just wanted to chime in with +1 to Reolink generally, as they don't paywall basic functionality and the software is excellent, very customisable but also easy to use and intuitive. Couple of ppl here recommended i went with them or Eufy as they are the better non-subscription based ones and im thankful for being pointed in that direction.

I like them, use it as an offline setup.

      • Do you use a Reolink recorder for offline setup?

        • Yes.

          • @Flutterby: Does not getting notifications of events to your mobile not bother you?

            • @freeb1e4me: Why would it bother me? Well, I wouldn't want the notifications, getting plenty from Google doorbell.

            • @freeb1e4me: I use Reolink off their cloud setup but still get notifications fine. It’s not truly ‘offline’ but it’s off their network completely.

              • @Yekul:

It’s not truly ‘offline’ but it’s off their network completely.

                Because Reolink Cloud uses AWS?

            • @freeb1e4me:

Does not getting notifications of events to your mobile not bother you?

Why would notifications not be sent to the mobile? The app is great.

              • @soan papdi: Because it’s “offline”

                • @freeb1e4me: Yes. Ours is an offline standalone. At least the firewall is configured to block it from extern access (in and out).

Some people use a separate computer as a node for remote accessing so they are accessing the node instead of allowing the cctv/IP camera to be open.

        • Was just going to chime in on this thread and say I use SurveillanceStation on my synology nas has a recorder. Works well, bonus being it didn't cost anything extra as already had the NAS.

          • +1

@Name: Down side of using a Synology (limited number of licensed) is the constant writing and wearing the HDD rather quickly.

From memory, Synology comes with one or two licenses for recording and costs more for additional ones.

The switch will also need to support POE too.

Benefit of NVR is that a monitor/mouse can be plugged in for a complete offline setup like a CCTV system.

Non-Floodlight Version is $164 Currently. I have this one and its great! Even the little built-in lights are pretty bright.

    • +1

Yeah picked one up last year for $68, it's a good camera. Not sure they will drop to those prices again but makes it hard to buy at current price.

      • $68. Gee… That's cheap.

We have the non floodlight version, replacing it with this. Will probably hold off for below $200.

For. $40 more, the floodlight version is probably better.

lowest price from Camelx3 was $146, where did you get it from?

  • Not bad, good price

it's like the grand child of the nintendo R.O.B.

    • I knew i'd seen that face somewhere !

  • These don't seem very suitable for roof mounting? Can't find a pic of the duo with spotlights being roof mounted.

    • There is a metal grommet on the top as well as the bottom so you can have it both ways if you are that way inclined. But would mean the lights would be on the top so not sure how it would impact the image. There is probably a 3d printable option somewhere look for soffit mount

I own this, was not able to ceiling mount it

  • Looking at getting a Reolink system. This camera says it comes with a 1m network cable. Does that mean you need to have the box within 1m or buy a longer cable?

    • It comes with a 1m little patch cable. So you just buy and run a longer CAT6 Cable (should be less than 50m as well) and then you will be fine. Trying to have the box within 1m of the unit will be difficult for most…..

You can get various lengths of cable of Amazon pretty cheap and already terminated.

      • +1

Or get a sparky for proper cabling. Spent way more on the sparky than the system.

        • Yes, if you are unsure what you are doing, get a sparky and/or a cabler. Cablers are often cheaper.

Spent way more on the sparky than the system

Really? As a cabler, the system is often most expensive part. Depending on the location, the installation can be about 2/3s of the system.

          • +1

@geekcohen: Double brick Victorian style sitting on sandstone with extension. A lot of work and not to just put holes anywhere. Just delicate work.

      • +1

Thanks, was thinking 1m cable was pretty much useless. That's what confused me!

        • +2

Your sparky/cabler would have ethernet port installed at location where the cameras sit, then just plug them in.

PoE IP cameras are great, much easier to upgrade/replace.
