Good luck finding a return for free deal.

  • Website keeps crashing, can't get on to even try book anything…

  • What’s the benefit of booking through you over Jetstar directly?

    • +5

It's actually just a referral site, so you put in your dates of travel, click purchase through Jetstar, and it forwards you directly to Jetstar. I only just found that out, and I much prefer the date picker on I want that flight.

Return flight for Gold Coast <—> Newcastle is with a 1 night stop over in Melbourne 😆. Thanks Jetstar

    • Perfect excuse to visit the great city of Melbourne.

  • Thanks OP!

Just remember if they cancel your flight or you need to claim your return flight through insurance the value is $0.

We got caught up when Tiger did a similar deal. Cancelled the return flight and ended up having to buy a last minute flight for 3X the value of the original flights. They refunded us $0 for the cancelled flight.

I'm not saying it's not a good deal, but it's worth keeping in the back of your mind.

    • what the insurance ended up paying you for the "$0" value flight tix??

      • +4

I didn't have insurance (it was a domestic flight). and I had booked so far in advanced that I forgot it was "return free". So I went to tiger for a refund after we had gotten home and then it was made clear that they would only refund the cost of the return flight. Which I guess does make sense, but it's also fairly deceptive when they control flight cancellations.

Check with insurance, I guess they might cover the cost of a similar flight home? I generally don't bother with insurance for domestic flights. but it would be worth checking.

This happened to me on a flight that got cancelled back from Hobart.

I called their support and they were charging an insane amount ($200ish from memory) opened it via my phone and found a flight for almost half their quote, scumbags.

If Jetstar cancels the return flight, don't opt for a refund because you'll get $0. Instead rebook to the next available flight. Since you are away from home they will reimburse you for hotel, meals and transfers until your new travel date.

Had this happen to us and they refused to reimburse anything. We were actually told exactly what you just wrote by the ground staff only to be ignored by Jetstar when we tried making a claim.
Lied point blank to our face.

        Never fly Jetstar

  • Question on adding checked luggage…

I'm thinking of an Osaka trip but was only wanting to do only carry on going there but the return flight with checked luggage (planning on buying a large suitcase when there to get gifts to take back).

Will the addition of checked luggage negate the deal, OR will I just have to pay for the flight there and the difference to add on checked luggage?

    • +2

it is just an added extra once you select the basic flight fare, just go onto the next lot of pages that allows you to add what you want for each individual flight

      • Cheers bud! Glad to see that my plans will work with how this sale is structured.

I've been planning this trip to Osaka/Kansai region for ages. June is a no go (not to mention super hot there) but I think there was an August window for the sale fares that might work out. Just need the wife to figure out if she needs to go overseas to look after her sick mother in August. Worse case scenario I wait for a future Jetstar sale and book for just after Golden Week 2026.

        • +1

Won't August be just as hot, if not hotter?

          • @Ventak: Hmmm, you're right… for some silly reason I kept thinking June and July were the hottest months and it would start cooling in August.

Well, guess that makes the decision to defer to next year easier.

            • @Mugsy: Plus August is typhoon season. It's pretty frustrating to spend money to go away and get hit, no shops open, spending money to stay in your hotel room. Not fun.

              • @AUBRX: Good point. I'll stick to my plan to go one of these years just after Golden Week. Seems to be the best time of the year for what I want to do.

                • @Mugsy: I'd actually suggest the week before Golden week. In fact, entire April month is really nice in Japan. We've been twice (once early April, once late April to May during Golden week). Golden week is good as long as you plan and book everything months ahead, otherwise don't do it. Early April weather is a bit cold but you get to see amazing cherry blossoms and you would even see snow etc in hilly areas, makes it a total package. Late April is very pleasant weather wise but crowd becomes larger (mainly local tourists) so you need to be mindful of that. Both within golden week or outside of it we always found good hotel deals but that's mainly due to my discipline for early reservations and thorough research. Japan is amazing and I'd highly recommend especially at these nice discounted airfares.

                  • @npnp: Cheers for your thoughts mate.

I'm planning on going for about 3 weeks so I'd have to go a fair bit before Golden Week if I'm to avoid the crowds which usually doesn't work well with my availability. My Mrs typically goes overseas for 1month+ to see her parents around that time of the year and I'm at home looking after the pug until she comes back.

Though, she moved it earlier this year and may shift her next visit to cover xmas this year through to after Valentine's day 2026.

But this would only open up the pre-Golden Week period for me.

Booking reservations well in advance isn't an option as my mother in law has lung cancer so my wife may need to head overseas again at any point at short-ish notice.

It's why these budget flights are so desirable… besides the savings, it's an amount I'm OK to part with (as far as international airfare goes) if I need to cancel at the last minute.

If it's return for free, then why are the return prices more expensive than 1 way?

    • +1

you have to find a $0 fare for the return leg

We flew (return) from Cairns to Japan (Jetstar) and it was surprisingly pleasant. I expected the worse given their bad reputation here but everything went super smooth, flights on time and quite comfortable too. Seats were nice and they had screens as well (for small extra fee of course). I would recommend especially when their fees are less than half the price, why not spend that extra to really enjoy your destination rather than the journey itself.

    • That's great to hear.

I've been planning my own budget trip to Japan for a while now… well, budget flights there… so I can spend more on food, onsen visit, etc. Past decade has been a bit exhausting… need a solo holiday to rest and recharge for 2-3 weeks.

I've purchased many cheap Jetstar fares over the years and am a satisfied customer. I've experienced cancellations but for the most part they treat you well with rebooking flights and reimbursing your expenses.

Wasting time as can't find free return flights to Seoul.

  • Booked Syd to Busselton for $169 ea. Good deal I suppose

    • what is there to do there?

      • Wineries in Margaret River
Jetty and beach activities in Busselton
        3-4 day trip would suffice

      • If you get a rental car you can do a nice road trip loop Busselton - Margaret River - Augusta - Walpole - Albany & back via Pemberton (for example).

This is also possible from Perth so you need to compare the flight & car rental costs (for example Perth probably has a lot of much cheaper car rental options such as Bayswater Hire cars).

  • Nothing for Osaka left either damn :(

Anyone with past experience know if they'll add more dates?

Had 6 flights, had all 6 delayed, no compensation, longest delay was 4 hours, not good.
