Dell AW3425DW 34" WQHD 3440x1440 240Hz QD-OLED Curved Monitor $1199 + Delivery ($0 C&C) (RRP $1499.30) @ JB Hi-Fi

940

Newly released AW3425DW model that has an upgraded panel from the AW3423DW.

Important note: The JB description says it's a LCD VA panel (which would be the much cheaper 34 inch AW3425DWM). It is not. I've just picked it up. It's an error in their system. This is the OLED. The RRP and the deal price are those of an OLED.

This beats the $1348 deal on ozbargain: old deal

YMMV and it's possible there are VA panels in stock at this heavily elevated price but the pricing is more consistent with oled. Apparently even on their inventory info, it says VA so get them to physically check.

      Like I've said.

It's not. I've literally just picked it up.
      I swear people don't read.

Added another neg to revoke the original neg. Appreciate your post and detail.. seriously jb need to fix this on their site.

        • Yeh man. I spoke to 3 different people on the phone with varying answers until I was able to convince someone to just check it.

I'd probably believe OP, the product code shown on JB says it's this one.

      Alienware 34 240Hz QD-OLED Gaming Monitor - AW3425DW

YMMV. AFAIK JB never sold the VA DWM model.
    Ask them to physically check.

  • OP, please add tags etc.

ill be skip this whole OLED gen , straight to PLED, i know burn in is well controlled now, also this model isnt the latest oled tech either. (its at gen 4 now?). good price from past point of view, but the tech is just too fast. and this thing is still not cheap.

    • +3

      QDEL FTW.

    • +1

Good comment! A bit worrying this burn in thing. What the recommended monitor then, 32 / 34".

      • I bought the AW3423DW on release with daily use and i don't have any burn in yet

  • -5

Still waiting for flat 32" OLED at this price :'(

  • +4

This is a 'Gen 2' panel, as seen way down the bottom of this great writeup https://tftcentral.co.uk/articles/gen-4-samsung-qd-oled-2025…

Not sure why they aren't making Gen 4 tech in 34", in particular it doesn't have the new subpixel shape that supposedly improves text clarity.

    • 34 makes up 3.5 percent of monitor sales.

or they can sell 30-45 percent of the panels at 1440p.. of which you can get WAY more 27 panels out of the mother panel than a 34

theres nearly no market need for them to want to rush the latest gear to UW

  • Which is the best 4k OLED 240hz monitor these days? I know the Alienware is an OZB fav, but are any of the ones closer to $1500-$2000 better and aren't curved?

    • Asus QD-OLED PG27UCDM is extremely good. So as MSI MPG 322URX QD-OLED.

Alienware and Samsung G8 Oled are ozb fav because they are much more affordable than the other 2.

      • Thanks! I've have read good things about the MSI 322URX. Do you think it's worth the extra money over the 321UPX?

        • +1

Sorry I was mistaken the MSI 322URX for the MSI 272URX

I can't speak for the MSI because I don't have any of them. I only have the Samsung G81SF and Samsung G80SD (equivalent of Gen 3 and 4)
From what I've read, apart from the DP 2.1 the 322URX has slightly higher peak brightness in HDR 400 true black. Image is more punchy but not worth the extra $$

The real deal for QD OLED this year is the 27inch 4k OLED because they come in gen 4 panel. PG27UCDM, MSI 272URX, Samsung G81SF and AW2725Q are all 27inch 4k 240hz panel.

        • Rtings rated the 321 higher than the 322.so I went with the Dell 32 oled. Just looks so nice in person.

  • This or the LG C4 42 inch ??? For PC monitor

    • +2

C4 42 - Had the previous one and it's not close

      • Thx bro, gonna wait for the C4 42 then

    • +1

      I'm using the C4 now it's amazing!

    • +1

Depends on your preference for form factor and UW.

For me, at the distance I view things from, I prefer this size and UW.

    • +1

I have the 42 C4.. Was using it with a solid PC. Looked incredible for gaming but I also use it for working at home.. It' just got too big for me on a desk. I think I'm a 32 Max guy. My brother in law has a 42 LG oled also gamer and wfh and he swears by it.

  • +2

Important note: The JB description says it's a LCD VA panel

Muzeeb would never had made such a mistake.

  • Any text fringing on this ?

    • Yes. Obviously mainly depends on how sensitive you are. For whatever it means this is a gen 2 OLED while it's a new release it's the old panels that have worse text clarity. Think there might even be "gen 4" now definitely gen 3 which improved text.

      • What monitor size 32-40 would you recommend with good text clarity and occasional gaming via PS5 ?

  • Anyone know when this price expires?

  • -3

    It's up to date version?

    • +1

Well this screen is based on Samsung Gen 2 panel, and latest released is Gen 4 panel, so to answer your question, this is using an older Samsung panel from like 2 Years ago.

But if you want a qd oled in 34 inch ultawide, then this is the latest currently on the market.

If you want a screen with Gen 4 panel, I believe your current only choice is the new 27 inch 4k qd oled screens fron Asus, msi and Dell.

  • The Samsung G9 OLED (5120x1440) seems to come up on sale for a similar price now and then. Would that represent better value for money, or is there something I'm missing? The past deals for the Samsung didn't get as many upvotes as these Alienware deals seem to get.

    • +1

Dell generally considered to have better warranty and return service and comes with 3 Year burn-in warranty.
I heard Samsung does not even cover burn-in?

Also the G9 has 32:9 aspect ratio which I believe there is not as much content that support that vs the Dell 21:9 which is widely supported now.

      My pick is the Dell.

      • +2

Just chiming in on warranty experience with Samsung, have been told directly by Samsung that they don't cover a variety of panel issues like banding. My panel was not OLED when I was complaining to Samsung, but I can speak to their overall absolutely terrible warranties, customer service and low quality products. Every Samsung device I've ever had, whether it's a TV smart watch or phone, has died prematurely. I deal with enough premature issues in the bedroom and would never recommend the Samsung (or bedroom) experience to anyone.

      • +1 for Dell.

Ive only bought Dell/AW monitors because they have a zero bright pixel policy.

  • Does anyone know if we can use the built in split screen function to have two side by side display with just one cable?

    • if can split screen i'll buy

      • Are you referring to the PIP/PBP mode?
Cause if so, then I can confirm it does have it as I can see the setting under the osd with various settings such as 50% - 50 etc.

  • I saw this a couple of days ago, but because the key features and the description on the site was based on the DWM specs… I didnt even bother asking JB…

Question I have is, how well does QD OLED handle excel work since its mainly white backgrounds… I use my monitors for both work and play and mostly spend my work time in Excel. Anyone in a similar situation notice burn ins?

    • use night mode in excel?

      • wait is that a thing… didn't know that was a thing… i looked into last year and all I found was some jangy way of doing it.

        • It's in the View tab: "Switch Modes"

    • Its gonna be bright, like super bright. That being said, you can pixel refresh every 4 hrs (takes about 5-10min) and your screen is good to go again. It has a panel health icon (green->yellow after 4 hours) and I set the pixel refresh so its when it goes into standby mode.

    • I use excel daily with my AW3225QF qd-oled.
The trick is to crank the brightness all the way down. It's still bright enough to do work.
I apply a night filter and move the window periodically onto a second non Oled monitor AW3821DW. Screen is set to sleep if no activity after 2 mins. Only had it for 5-6 months but no signs of burn in. I always let it finish the pixel refresh and cleaning cycles. Still I'm conscious not to leave excel on the screen for more than an hour (or few) at a time.

  • Can somebody clarify if this monitor can be used as main monitor and have a 2nd monitor daisy chain to it?

    • No on the previous model. Doubt they've introduced it here but I'm not certain.

    • No Thunderbolt.

  • +1

Just picked one up. Can confirm Website is (profanity) and showing incorrect specs/details.

    • What purpose are you using it for ? Really want to know if this is suitable for a lot of PDF reading eg literatures and some games via ps5

      • I've had the AW3418DW, AW3423DWG and i've just picked this one up. It's a productivity beast but also excellent if you play racing games.

      • Its quite bright but going from a VA panel to this the writing just seems crisp. Mostly using it for gaming.

  • Ordered one last week for $1250 directly from Dell before this one got on sale… Eh, I'll eat the $50, it's for work anyway.

Good price, though suspiciously few reviews are out so far.

  • +1

$30 off Perks voucher should work too, right?

  • +1

Just purchased. Live chat will give you another $11 off + $30 perk if you have the coupon. Shop back has 2% for JB giftcards

  • On backorder. Long ETA (almost a month).

  • My goodness, got mine this Tuesday, the Gsync/freesync flicker is really bad in games and I already had the monitor "freeze" on me in standby mode, unable to be turned back on without pulling the plug. Fun.

Display quality and HDR is fantastic though and matches my old aw3423dw, 240Hz is nice and smooth but the flicker (and bogus frame rate values in monitor osd fps display) really makes me want to return it unless I can find a suitable fix

    • Just disable gsync/freesync then. I honestly think most modern games barely have noticeable tearing anyway.
